    Silvuddy's Notes:
    - Vs. Wild Pokémon / Pokémon Trainer: As the first main series Pokémon games on the DS, a brand new soundfont was introduced, which these two common battle themes make great examples of!
    - Vs. Rival Barry: Barry's rival theme continues the trend introduced in the last generation of more fun rival battle themes, compared to Silver's more edgy and cool battle theme.
    - Vs. Gym Leader / Elite Four: The loop isn't actually where most people think: there are two variations of the motif that occur before the loop point, the second having a slightly different rhythm. Additionally, the Sinnoh Elite Four copy their Indigo counterparts by reusing the same theme as the Gym Leaders, unlike the Hoenn Elite Four. However the track is not exactly the same as the Gym Leader music, instead being a pitched down version of it.
    - Vs. Team Galactic Grunt / Team Galactic Commander: For the first time ever, the team admins get their own battle theme! While simply being a different arrangement of the main grunt theme, the amped up energy still brings the feeling of the battle being a boss fight against a dangerous enemy.
    - Vs. Team Galactic Boss Cyrus: This battle theme is interesting in that it doesn't inherently sound dark and menacing, there are a lot of moments in a major key. The triplet format brings a lot of intensity to make up for this and create something still quite intimidating, and presents the feeling of a battle of ideals rather than simply a fight against villainy.
    - Vs. Dialga/Palkia: Dialga and Palkia's theme notably incorporates the Spear Pillar music to further connect them to Sinnoh's overall history and lore. This theme also has the unique quirk of not being used for the third member of the primary legendary trio.
    - Vs. Lake Guardian: Suddenly hearing this theme certainly surprised me when I noticed the regular Wild Pokémon theme wasn't playing and I was faced with a Legendary Pokémon! Like Dialga and Palkia's theme, this battle theme incorporates overworld music as well, in this case the lake cavern theme, fittingly.
    - Vs. Champion Cynthia: Interestingly, this theme is reused when battling the Tower Tycoon Palmer in Diamond and Pearl. This personally always led me to believe somehow Cynthia and Palmer were connected (maybe married!) but most likely it was just the reuse of a final climactic battle theme in the post-game.
    - Vs. Legendary Pokémon: This is the first game to include a general Legendary Pokémon theme, used for multiple Legendaries that aren't particularly associated with one another, and even some mythicals. Despite what you might think, Cresselia and Shaymin don't actually use this theme in their battles, instead using the regular Wild Pokémon theme. However, the theme is used for them in other games like Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and the remix in Legends: Arceus. Interestingly, Regigigas and Giratina (in its Altered Form) also use this theme, despite their connection to other Legendary Pokémon with unique battle music.
    - Vs. Giratina (Origin Form): Unlike Rayquaza in Pokémon Emerald Version, this successor mascot receives a completely new and unique battle theme in the upgraded third installment. This one perfectly captures the unnerving nature of Giratina and the Distortion World, and has become its signature theme not just in Origin Form, but now plays at nearly any encounter with it in other games (such as Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon).
    - Vs. Frontier Brain: This is not the same music as the Hoenn Battle Frontier's Brains, but the motif heard in their original themes does make a return in this battle theme (keep an ear out for it)!
    - Vs. Legendary Giant: In Platinum, the Giants are able to be encountered again via an event Regigigas, and receive a remix of their original themes but in the new Genearation 4 soundfont.
    - Vs. Arceus: While this music is pretty widely known at this point, there was a time when the theme went entirely unused, as Arceus was not able to be legitimately encountered in battle in Generation 4. The theme was first made openly available in HeartGold and SoulSilver, though only during a cutscene and not a battle.
