These are ideas for an essay - nothing more. The more ideas students have, the easier it is to write an essay.
@@ieltsliz if those ideas arent grounded in facts, arent they just opinion essays which can be disproven with research? In other words, arent you encouraging students to perpetuate bull shit? How is this teaching?

@Drew First of all, you were not able to understand the context of this lesson. You may not need to provide the statistical data from Afghanistan, in order for you to support your ideas because the test judges your English, not your polity. Don't just find reasons to criticize anyone. As of my knowledge, IELTS Liz is the best source for Ielts preparation and she is awesome.

However, what we need is a complete tutorial, meaning starting from developing idea to translating this idea into an essay by citing intro, body and conc. Dear liz, you have a nice way to explain everything and I learnt a lot from them. I really liked your explanation of putting one reason in one paragraph, but when I see the 9 band essay examples, I found people wriitng 2 causes in one paragraph and then 2 solutions in another. Aren’t these 2 causes have to be written in a separate paragraph? Or to get band 9 , instead of writing 1 cause and 1 solution, there is a requirement of 2 causes and 2 solutions. Additionally, the examples are also not there. This is with regard to “ many offenders commit more crimes.....”

Hey, so, in these kind of discussion essays, am I supposed to put the advantages for both of these kinds of schools in the body paragraphs, or the advantage of one and the disadvantage of the other?
This video does not show an essay type. This video only contains ideas for topics. However, if you were given a discussion essay on this topic, you would have one paragraph for each side.

single sex schools may not prevent early relationship in some circumstances. But i guess its good to put that out there because its a easy point we can get in the 5 mins planing stage.

eva xiao I really don't have a strong view. I've known students flourish in single sexed schools as well as mixed schools. Personally, I think it depends on the culture you are from and what you are used to. In some cultures boys and girls are accustomed to mixing together while in other cultures they rarely mix. I think parents should choose the type of school that suits their culture and suits their child. What's your view?

i'm wondring how true is it that girls do learn faster than boys. i mean is it based from research or statistics somewhere? because somehow I incorporated this idea in one of my essays and my tutor says it was too subjective and that its not right to be subjective in formal essays. im confused
Opinion essays require you to present your views - you can have any view you want - they are your personal views. A discussion essay requires you to present other people's views - again you explain each side as you choose to support it. The examiner is not going to mark your ideas are wrong or right, the examiner will only mark your ideas as relevant or well explained. I say down with single sex education. It can screw up ones perceptions of the opposite sex. Like less interaction and communication between men and women is what society really needs. Life is coed. Men and women need to learn to live together and treat each other better. Talking from exp.

+Sherbet_Bomb I am in favor of a combination. I believe Secondary education (above 10 and under 18) will fare better with single sex while Primary and Higher studies will do better with co-ed.
+Sherbet_Bomb I agree 100%, I went to a single school, the net result was a disaster. Yes it is more difficult to teach boys and girls in a mixed environment but we should not lose sight of the fact that we have to live together and respect each other - that is to treat each other as human beings.

How is having less opportunity for early relationships a good thing? Surely it would be better to let the hormones do what they are supposed to do and let teens have the experience of being in a relationship so that they have some idea of what to expect when they become adult

I’m moving from a girls school to mixed soon because a bunch of girls in one school isn’t great also I feel if I stay till year 11 with only girls I’ll see boys in a bad way which I don’t want majority of my friends are boys and going to a girls school has already made me loose friends and they all picked on me and now want to be my friend again girls are very manipulative so over 500 manipulative girls in one school is not great and all of them have a hatred towards boys which is disgusting and I don’t want to turn out like that and mom doesn’t want me to either we live in a world where there are so many men and woman we might as well learn to work with them from a young age so when we are adults it’s something we have been doing our whole lives not a whole task just to be able to work with the opposite sex

Hi Liz, thank you for a wonderful lesson. Just a small mistake I found is at 1:25 you mentioned "same-sex schools" as a synonym of co-educational schools. However, same-sex, I think, means single sex schools, just like same-sex marriage meaning homosexual marriage.

amazing video. however I disagree with some points about advantages, because several argumens relate to singular events. In addition, I don't have any insights how to create the situation, where boys & girls will be more competetive than in single gender school and etc.

In old generation I do prefer single gender school...but now! Don't tell me that you don't know why she used just 'girls' as and for example!?? To save time, she has depicted points in favour/against girls assuming that viewer will learn and develop points on boys as well. This is an example to depict parameters to be considered while writing on this topic and we can in contrast, write for boys ourselves.
Imagine her writing all these lines again, using boys as subject!!! I mean she just saved time dude...

Most companies I've worked employ women as front-desk and are often separated, in the real world men are distracted while working with women in same environment.

Do our ideas need to be truthful? or are we supposed to just pick any idea regardless of it being true/untrue and just write about it?
I'm not sure what you mean by "truthful". Ideas are simply ideas. They are not facts. They are usually your opinion. Some people think single sex schools are a good idea and some people do not. Which opinion you agree with is your own personal view, and not a fact. Some people might say girls learn faster than boys, but others will say the opposite. You choose your view. So, you see, I'm not sure what you mean about being "truthful". The examiner will mark you for Task Response on whether your ideas are relevant, focused, well explained and well developed. This means when you choose which ideas to present in your essay, you will choose ideas which are relevant and focused, then you will explain them carefully and fully develop them.

If I was given this question to discuss for Task 2, without a doubt, I'd pick co-ed being the superior one. It's solely because it has easier to explain points, unlike single-sex. Even many of the points given in support of single-sex here are highly statistical and not at all well known facts. At least for me, I've never heard of the fact that girls learn faster than boys. Girls certainly do develop faster mentally and physically but I have my doubts when it comes to learning speed.
I just wanted to know that, can we write personal example in task 2??? Is it appropriate???
Not example ,but we can use personal words like I,my,we. Only in introduction and in conclusion
