    Great job on the painting and yes, it's about time we had a watercolor tutorial. I can't get enough of them. Lindsey, I know you are a vegetarian and live a healthy, conscience lifestyle. That being said, the best way to keep ticks off the cats without side effects is to keep them indoors. Indoor cats live healthier, happier, longer lives. Thank you for sharing.

    I love your tutorials Lindsey..... Especially your card and watercolor ones. I would love to see you paint a field of poppies. I live in San Diego and in the spring the desert town of Borrego has a national park that is just a carpet of poppies. People travel from all over just to see it. Thank you. Debbie

    I LOVED it!! Thank you! I was in a watercolor slump and your video really helped perk me up. I painted it on a card also this morning. watched it a couple of times before painting it. I used my new M. Graham paints...love them! I've been having some trouble with some of my other paints being a little gritty after sitting for awhile so I'm excited about my M. Grahams. Thank you fro the recommendation and THANK YOU for the watercolor tutorial!!! I hope you have a great day and good luck with your kitty and the ticks. My cats are indoor so I don't have a recommendation.

    BTW, because I'm watching and I'm at your tick tale :) Our vet gave us a pill for the dog that works for 3 months and takes care of any ticks, fleas, and other insects. Works wonderfully. I'm in Poland but I'd imagine you can get something like that on the other side of the pond as well, maybe ask your vet!

    I have a great tip for getting rid of ticks, I work at a rescue and we use this all the time. If you put a few drops of anise essential oil on the nape of the cat's neck (same as the flea and tick drops) it gets rid of them in a heartbeat. You can also put some in a spray bottle with some water and spray around the house and the yard. Works wonders

      +Kathy Moreira thank you! Is the stuff used in candy making OK, I have a small dram of that in the cupboard.

    • @angelhelp
      @angelhelp 9 років тому

      +Kathy Moreira iwere veritable tick magnets despite regular use of the drops. The vet even gave me permission to apply the drops more frequently than monthly (ask your vet) but he still picked up ticks almost daily. Our golden retriever was fine with the drops, as were the other cats. The "tick key" works wonders in removing ticks of all sizes from both critters and people.

    Ticks were awful this year (I'm in MA). I have my pups on Revolution (drops) so I don't think that will help you...but, it does work well, they haven't had a single tick. My mom's dog is not on that and he did have quite a few ticks over the past few months. I will say that once the drops are applied they seep into the skin and from there into the bloodstream. So after about 24 hours or so, water shouldn't be an issue. Hope the kitties are ok!!!

    Hi Lyndsay, Thank you for watercolour! Yay! the link to the ref image is to bird, not sure if this was your intention? Regarding ticks - invest in diatomaceous earth - you can also put this around the house, and, being a frugal crafter you can make beauty products with it such as cleansers, masks etc :)

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  9 років тому +1

      +Kyomii Brown oops! You can look forward to that tutorial later this week LOL!

    • @daneekaplan4284
      @daneekaplan4284 9 років тому

      +Kyomii Brown the problem with diatomaceous earth is that she things the cat is getting ticks from wandering far off her property. It would only work if the she needed to treat her yard. We used it in NC when the ticks and fleas were HORRIBLE.

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown 9 років тому

      +Danee Kaplan she can rub it in the cats fur Danee.

    • @daneekaplan4284
      @daneekaplan4284 9 років тому +1

      +Kyomii Brown I wondered if that is where you were headed...interesting. I shall keep that in mind because we had bad ticks this year as well. My dog doesn't go in the area they were super bad but she does sometimes get out and run back there.

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown 9 років тому

      +Danee Kaplan Just be careful to ensure you get food grade it you do invest and also keep away from eyes and be aware it can dry skin a little, but really no more than normal flea powder and just the same precautions you would take with flea powder. It has to touch the skin, but dusting the fur down can also be a preventative in the first place. Given its many uses, and that humans can take it internally for health benefits, it is a good investment all round. Just do plenty of research on the best way to use it on your pet and around the home. Have a read here for health, and also pet benefits. I am not recommending anywhere specific to purchase (I am from UK, this site is American) but just ensure a good quality food grade www.diatomaceousearth.com - hope that helps.

    Hi! Your watercolor painting is beautiful! I have a question. What is the flower called?

  • @dcottrell01
    @dcottrell01 9 років тому

    Beautiful Bromeliad. (The o is long when you pronounce it.) the sad thing about these flowers is that once they bloom the plant dies unless it creates a new 'baby' but, the flower will last for months. It's an amazing plant. Anyway(sorry for the ramble). You mentioned that you only use 5-6 colors all the time. Would you share what those colors are? I think a good travel kit could be made using them if they meet my needs. Thank you for your videos. Happy birthday to your son!

    In the 80's our house was INFESTED with ticks. We were sent home from school a few times because of it. We had our house professionally bug bombed, we had to stay out for a few days. While that was going on, we had our 4 dogs boarded at the vet, where they each got a tick bath. To keep the ticks away forever, we had a bug guy come spray monthly. It worked! LOL!!! Las Vegas, in case you're wondering hahaha

    thank you so much for the tutorial! Lindsay I tried to paint a sunflower the other day, going from memory of your tutorial - utter FAIL!! :-( I'm sure you've mentioned this a hundred times, but would you mind just once more? :-) ? What kind of practice should I be doing? Just doing washes? should I trace or stamp something and go from there? I like painting or doodling (Zentangle) in my living room, on the couch, just for something to do, if that makes sense? my craft room is so lonely. Hope I'm making sense. I guess I'm looking for something I can paint while in the living room. Not to much to ask eh? Thanks so much for your help as always!! take care!

      +Christina Furner-Webber I would clip pics from magazines and keep them in a folder with a few sheets of watercolor paper and put it in a basket with your paints and brushes and bring it the LR when you want to sketch and paint and try to paint from the photos. Practice the techniques as you make a picture.

    I usually take a small mister bottle and mix a bit of cedarwood and lavender essential oils with just a drop or two or dish soap. (the dish soap helps the oil and water mix) Don't shake, but gently tip the bottle upside down a couple times. You can then mist is onto the fur and gently massage it in. It typically lasts for a couple days. You can also use citronella, eucalyptus, citruses, peppermint...
    Lets see... you can also use apple cider vinegar, steep some rosemary and lavender in it and mist the fur.
    If your cat wears a collar, you can also add about 12 drops of one of the essential oils to about 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil and add a few drops to the collar every couple days.
    Just keep in mind that animal senses are more sensitive than human senses. Oh, and don't put straight oil on your kitty... it could harm their skin...
    Hopefully the ticks will start to settle down as the colder months approach! Good luck!

  • @annatracy757
    @annatracy757 9 років тому

    you might want to use Tea tree oil, just a few drops in a misting bottle. just make sure you use a high quality essential oil! And shake the bottle well before spraying the cat down.

    I use frontline. Cat here is allergic for fleebites so we have to drop twice a month. I guess two a month freak out the ticks cause I didn't notice them since. Further I have a tick pincet from the vet wich is not expensive. Just grip click twist and pull. (And don't forget to clean it with alcohol before and after ) Did you know you can use vaseline for cats and dogs paws in winter to protect them from road salt? Just saying, since you have more snow than we, so you probably know it allready haha.

  • @nhchicky
    @nhchicky 9 років тому

    Just so you know.....the drops pills and anything will NOT keep the ticks from biting, same with any animal. What it does is poision the tick, it will eventually die and fall off, there is nothing available to keep a tick from biting. I have always used Revolution RX from the vet. its been the best at killing fleas and kills the attached ticks quicker then any other brand, frontline sux IMO. :) hope that helps Pretty painting too :)

    • @nhchicky

      +Lynn S oh and one more thing... dont worrie about the head of the tick getting stuck in the skin, as long as ur cat or dog is healthy, the skin will scab over and eventually just push the head or parts out....this is all stuff my vet told me, i had the same questions :P

    every spring we spread this grub ex plus flea an tick an misquito repellant on our yard just before it rains you can't let the pets out till it rains an it soaks in the ground, we never have any fleas, ticks, ground moles, mosquito all summer, we spread 3 bags in our yard every spring during the rainy season, works excellent an in the house an around the outside perimeter we use home defense spray for spiders an all those ants an others bugs an that keeps them out no problems there either.

    • @serenity2288

      +thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich NEVER feed garlic to your dog! Not sure about cats but in dogs garlic and onions can cause anemia

    • @ElizabethKilbride
      @ElizabethKilbride 9 років тому

      Vet has always said garlic for the last 30 years.

    • @serenity2288
      @serenity2288 9 років тому

      +Elizabeth Kilbride All close members of the onion family (shallots, onions, garlic,
      scallions, etc.) contain compounds that can damage dogs’ red blood cells
      if ingested in sufficient quantities. A rule of thumb is “the stronger
      it is, the more toxic it is.” Garlic tends to be more toxic than onions,
      on an ounce-for-ounce basis. While it’s uncommon for dogs to eat enough
      raw onions and garlic to cause serious problems, exposure to
      concentrated forms of onion or garlic, such as dehydrated onions, onion
      soup mix or garlic powder, may put dogs at risk of toxicosis. The damage
      to the red blood cells caused by onions and garlic generally doesn’t
      become apparent until three to five days after a dog eats these
      vegetables. Affected dogs may seem weak or reluctant to move, or they
      may appear to tire easily after mild exercise. Their urine may be
      orange-tinged to dark red in color. These dogs should be examined by a
      veterinarian immediately. In severe cases, blood transfusions may be
      needed.
