Training for and completing the Chicago marathon a couple of weeks ago forced me to do lots of research and figure out how to best fuel for long runs. Among the biggest lessons, at least for me, is that replenishing my electrolytes and consuming healthy, low- processed carbs, as well as protein (all very strategically), truly does help with endurance, performance, AND the recovery phase too. It’s taken some serious re-framing and adjusting my diet (at least in the days before long runs), to ensure I’m carbo loading and staying well hydrated. Carbs turn into the fuel that keeps you running and electrolytes, which include the minerals sodium and potassium, when balanced, can prevent cramps among many other things. All to say- I had to intentionally increase my carb intake as well as ensuring that I was replenishing my electrolytes, usually through Nuun tablets but also in the food I eat. And during the actual marathon, I made sure I had my water bottle topped off with Nuun and LiquidIV (again, with a good balance of sodium and potassium) and that I had enough energy gels (I love the Huma brand!), energy chews, and even salt tablets. Again- I never would’ve ever considered taking salt tablets but endurance sports really do require an uptake of them! So… the amount in sodium can def impact people differently depending on their lifestyle, their level of physical activity, and overall wellbeing.

When are Bobby and food influencers are going to stop exaggerating the dangers of mercury in seafood? Mercury content in tin fish especially when eaten with an an almost equal ration of selenium is not dangerous to human health because selenium blocks the absorption of mercury in the body and on top of it the form of mercury that exists in seafood is typically less harmful.

U can walk around and be weak with your bird food diet, but longevity measures for strength rely on mass. More so than VO2MAX.
I have a doctorate in physical therapy and performance training. My 80 year old patients that can't move will always grow muscles mass with 1g/lb.

Bobby - If you're so concerned about toxins, you should look at Halal meat.
Halal meat may be better because it involves the thorough draining of blood, reducing the presence of toxins and bacteria, which can improve hygiene and freshness. The method emphasizes minimal stress during slaughter, potentially leading to better meat quality in terms of tenderness and taste. Additionally, strict handling and processing standards help ensure cleanliness and reduce the risk of contamination.
