- Theyyam refers to both the art and the artist. It is a spellbinding artistic expression of religious worship.Each theyyam celebrates a legend.One such theyyam that attracts massive numbers is Maakkam.Maakkam was accused of wrongdoing by her sister in laws ,who disliked her.
She and her children were killed and thrown in to the well.This theyyam is worship of heroine of tragedy and the story connects with emotions of love ,hate,jealousy,conspiracy ,trust and betrayal.

ഞാൻ സ്കൂളിൽ പഠിക്കുന്ന കാലം കണ്ണൂർ നടന കലാക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നാടകം കണ്ടിരുന്നു, അന്ന് ഈ നാടക സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തത് കലാമണ്ഡലം വനജ ആയിരുന്നു, അന്ന് ഈ നാടകം കേരളത്തിൽ സൂപ്പർ ഹിറ്റ്‌ ആയിരുന്നു ❤

Beautifully captured the essence of the legend of Makkam. There are couple of things I'd like to add (these are pieces of information I gathered while writing my thesis on Kadankot Makkam):
1. After the death of Makkam and her kids she was summoned by Lord Shiva, and He instructed her to go back and set the world in order where women were the subject of patriarchy and were misjudged. Hence Makkam got back with her kids, who were the subject of brutalities.
2. Maavileyan, who we imbibe as a fellow who has lost his senses is basically Lord Shiva himself. His act which we usually find very comical during the performance of theyyam is the way of informing us the brutality the family faced which made a comma man go mad.
3. Maavileyan's presence is also seen as a "kaala teeka" from the evil eye.
4. The reaction of Chaatu on setting up his sister and mother on fire is just heartbreaking. The way he tries to put out the flames..oh god!
5. This is something that I'm not sure about..but from what I've read, the brothers sensed that there was something going on at home even before they reached home from the battlefield. And after the treacherous act of killing their sister and kids, when the brothers reached home, they saw the house burning with their wives who had completely gone mad dancing around it.
These information were gathered during the interview with theyyam artist himself. It was a wonderful opportunity! Again thank you for this amazing work. ❤️

Informative sequel to the interesting movie and certainly some food for thought on this interesting subject. The director can throw some light on what prompted or rather how she stumbled on this interesting topic and converted it into a movie. Is this kadangot the commonly known KK which has produced some great legal minds at the national level in this country without specifically naming him.

The legend of Makkam and her twins and the brutal treatment meted out to them treacherously by her own brothers have been beautifully visualized presented and recreated through Theyyam
in this documentary .It kept us enthralled throughout.Theyyam as an art form should be kept alive for the future generations.

കടാങ്കോട്ടും, പുതിയ വീട്ടിലും thirakal മുടങ്ങാതെ കാണാൻ പോകാറുണ്ട്, മനസ്സിൽ ഇത്രമാത്രം പതിഞ്ഞ ഒരു തെയ്യകോലം വേറെ ഉണ്ടോ എന്ന് അറിയില്ല, അത്രമാത്രം ഇഷ്ടമാണ് മാക്കത്തെയും മക്കളെയും, ഒരു കേട്ടറിവ് കൂടി പങ്ക് വെക്കുന്നു ഇന്നത്തെ നീലേശ്വരം റയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് 3 km മാറി ആണ് യഥാർത്ഥ കാടാങ്കോട്ട് തറവാടിന്റെ aaroodam, അവിടുന്ന് കുഞ്ഞിമംലത്തെക്ക് വന്ന ഒരു താവഴി ആണ് പിന്നീട് മാക്കത്തിന്റെ തറവാdaayi മാറിയത്
