amazing video! I am glad you took on the subject that we are told what we want and persue it, instead of just living our lives the way we actually want to, even if we find ourselves lost or wrong with our own beliefs and needs. I know that wasn't your words exactly but that was my understanding related to it
Funnily enough, I also went into SoC blind, and I got the True Ending first try. I think it's because that also reflected my own desire: I wanted to know the truth. I wanted to explore. I wanted to save people. Throughout my entire journey, I risked bullets and medkits to keep my buddies alive (not counting enemies like Freedom since I sided with Duty---so I ended up having to assassinate the whole base just so Skull and his gang could live). I took unnecessary risks to check out unexplored areas. And I went through hell in the CNPP being so unprepared with not enough medical supplies and just barely enough ammo for my G36C. But it was worth it to know the truth.
Fantastic video! I recently picked up the audiobook of Roadside Picnic, as I was interested in STALKER 2 and wanted to learn where it came from, and I wasn't prepared for the richness of ideas it had embedded into what is a very down-to-earth, simple story. (Btw, the Strugatsky's comments at 2:30 about the origins of the term were written in the afterword of an edition of Roadside Picnic, an afterword you can readily find online. Also some great insight into how it came to be published and what it was like being a Soviet scifi writer during the middle and late days of the USSR.) I think beyond the way the ideas behind Stalkers and the Zone capture my imagination is how incredible it is that both a film and a game series jumped off from the book's core concepts with their own interpretations of the Zone and the people around it. But all of them keep the core questions and philosophical underpinnings of Roadside Picnic to some extent. Just goes to show how many of us can deeply connect to the Zone and its mysteries.
I will always remember the first reading of roadside picnic, and then metro 2033. They were both incredible masterpieces that made me almost obsessed with their ideas. It’s SUCH a cool vibe
This feels like heavy inspiration to the virtual reality game called into the radius. The story, lore, mechanics, art, and playstyle. It all matches. Some stuff differs, of course, because you are alone in into the radius and names for items are changed. But I like how much of stalker is used in a newer game.

I'm unsure if you have or haven't looked into Absurdism, but you absolutely should. It perfectly encapsulates the philosophy surrounding the zone and its inhabitants. Those that run with it, live, and those who don't die. Despite everything we tell ourselves, life ultimately has no meaning and it is irrational, similar to the zone. But it doesn't mean we cannot find meaning in places ourselves. It is about that struggle, and it is about the perseverance that we have, like the Loner who ventures out just to make enough to scrape by. "The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart." -Albert Camus Amazing video, Riloe. Thank you.
I knew this was coming and couldn't wait. I knew everything included, but I knew Riloe would put together a banger. This is my favorite game series. I first played the originals before putting hundreds of hours playing Stalker Anomaly, playing through with every faction start. Absolutely well done, Riloe. Good hunting, stalkers
The Stalker may leave the zone, but the zone will never leave the stalker. The series and franchise of stalker isn't just a piece of media, its a feeling, a state of mind you go into when you consume that art. I have seen people fall into states of depression from this game, and also people that would find newfound hope in it aswell. This is why I love stalker so much. Edit: please also watch the lemonbeans video on "why everyone is playing stalker" its a very good vid. If you can't play the original trilogy, i would recommend playing STALKER Anomaly, its a free version with all the mechanics of the games, sincerely recommend
I watched the Stalker movie just out of curiosity after finding out it was inspiration for the games and was blown away. It immediately became part of my top 5 movies. It’s sensational I couldn’t recommend it enough
I could comment about philosophy or game design or STALKER itself, but instead I'd like to point out the video editing: I never expected my favorite soundtrack (Halo 3: ODST) to work _so well_ with ODST. Good find, my man. Nice work.
This brought me back to playing stalker shadow of chernobyl when i was a teenager! And boy this was quite the experience. i loved how the game felt lived-in with stalkers playing guitar around campfires until (spoilters ahead) you find a campfire with Monolith creeps around it ... I also remember on time i'm being chased by a pack of 4 or 5 wolves, i found refuge on high ground but if i shot a particular one wolf, the game would crash. SO i spent an entire evening killing wolves in a random order until only the bugged one remained and i could make a sprint out of aggro range.
as a genZer with a short attention span, I have the pleasure to tell you I stayed for the whole 20 minutes of x2 speed video. you're the best. the sheer quality of the content is crazy, friend.
Thank you for your video. The only thing it lacks is the word "atmosphere", that's used a lot by us Ukrainians when we describe STALKER (the game, mostly). The rest - pretty accurate!
24:38 For those interested, I happen to know what this song is called, and wanted to tell others. Its a song from in-game in STALKER that the npc’s can play on their guitars called “he was a good stalker”
Exactly, going in blind is the best experience. I watched the movie first, but walking around Cordon for the first time was like, "wtf is going on around here?" and then it gets crazier. That's more of a surface level compared to this video, but going in blind is best for both ways. Nothing like being sleep deprived and then seeing objects in a dark tunnel start to levitate and thrown.

Damn.... This is right up there with Jacob Geller. Nice work. Your pragmatic way of explaining is pleasant to listen to.
Beautiful video. I love games and media that say more about the viewer than anything else, and STALKER definitely can match up to that.
"The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart." -Albert Camus
Amazing video, Riloe. Thank you.
I love your videos and I'm glad you decided to cover Stalker & Roadside Picnic
Great work man this was really informative and beautifully edited
Best gaming commentary vids on all of YT and it’s not even close.
Subscribed, hopefully more well spoken, high quality videos to come. I love learning
A 40 minute Riloe video. We eating good tonight lads
This might be your best yet
Also I deadass jumped out my seat when I saw a 40 minute Riloe video
17:20 and yet he yerns for the mines!!!!!!
You can always count on Riloe to deliver a banger at 7 in the morning
HOLY SHIT Riloe and STALKER what a combo!
Another Awesome video man, i find your style to be captivating and thought provoking. Will be stoked for the next one✌️
thank you so much!
Always making be love and appreciate the thing you are covering ever more.
its a great morning when Riloe posts a Video, even better when its a Stalker vid! This was so good dude, thanks!
Well, that dove SLIGHTLY deeper than I was expecting.
Aweome video. Loved that ending.
Finally! Someone who can put to words what I've been feeling about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. this whole time!
Thanks for preventing the spoil ! I've watch the movie and read the book but i'm currently playing the games
Oh awesome a Riloe video!
*40 Minutes later*
Well that was beautiful, and now I'm crying.
I could comment about philosophy or game design or STALKER itself, but instead I'd like to point out the video editing: I never expected my favorite soundtrack (Halo 3: ODST) to work _so well_ with ODST. Good find, my man. Nice work.
@@CRDubU Halo OSTs on top!
It's "тоска́" in russian. And "ту́га“ ( in some cases "журба́" ) in ukranian. Apart from that, great video 🔥
I enjoyed this and found it interesting, thank you for sharing it with us.
You are so brave for admitting you went to the wish granter in your very first playthrough🙏
I've JUST been getting into Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R recently, learned about "A Roadside Picnic" too, to absolutely perfect timing.
Wow awesome video thank you for the lore breakdown and literary analysis
Was genuinely just watching a bunch of his videos and he uploads, how good
as a genZer with a short attention span, I have the pleasure to tell you I stayed for the whole 20 minutes of x2 speed video. you're the best. the sheer quality of the content is crazy, friend.
Thank you for your video. The only thing it lacks is the word "atmosphere", that's used a lot by us Ukrainians when we describe STALKER (the game, mostly). The rest - pretty accurate!
This byfsr is my favorite stalker lore video
24:38
For those interested, I happen to know what this song is called, and wanted to tell others.
@@frost8077 I’m honestly so glad I never got the majority of SoC spoiled! It was a great expeirence
As always, brillliant video. See you in the Zone Stalker
Another Banger!
Thank you for this piece.
