Lori it was so nice meeting you! I feel honored to know Pisces ♓️ was your first pen show purchase ever!! I promise to work on Cancer ♋️ for you, in Ruby of course! Thank you for shout out and the exposure to our community. We’re all glad to have you and your followers here!!
Ahhh! Thanks for the mention and I am so glad you met Bart! Loved this video and hope to meet you at a pen show next year! And that Brown Black M800 is my grail! And Francisco from Hinze is awesome!
I have been going back and make sure I’ve watched all your videos and you say in this video you had no Pelikan pens yet. Look at you now ❤ It’s fun to see the growth and how much fun you’ve had along the way!
Oh. My. Gawd. Where have you beeen all of our lives…. This, this right here, is what all of us in the pen community want, desire, NEED!!! Such gorgeous engagement… that level of truth, warmth, kindness, and relating that maybe others who have no idea “why fountain pens” would finally have blinders removed, their souls depths further discovered, and how we (pen people) are why and how we are… This is why heralders, clarions, sirens, klaxons, and car horns are created… to get the attention of those who may not even know… and in this case, what pleasures await…. This was you speaking to us… This is you giving to us… sharing, exploring, exposing, just being … yes, just being…. And I so loved this. Why, why hadn’t until just last night did the UA-cam algorithm put you into my feed… Subscribed!!! Sharing!!! Waiting, wanting more. Thank you.
I’ve been waiting for this video. I think I saw you at the pen show I heard you tell one of the vendors where you were from. I told my husband I think that’s one of the UA-camrs I follow. I just didn’t want to be embarrassed. I enjoyed the show even though it was small. The vendors had a lot of unique pens.
Oh, I wish we had the chance to say hi. I had so much fun! I think it was good for me that it was small. We really had a chance to see all of the tables and chat with the vendors. Now I think I'm ready for DC! Lol!! I hope you had a good time!
Orlando was the first pen show for my daughter and I too! To help with the impulse buy and budget, we agreed that we would walk the whole show and jot down notes on what we liked before we made any purchases.
I am in Arizona, so the only pen shows close to me are Denver and San Francisco. I would love to experience one someday! Your enthusiasm was so enabling (ha ha)! I think it is so funny that this community (that I only belong to because of UA-cam, Facebook, etc.) is so friendly and diverse! LOL, you are now "UA-cam Famous" because you were "recognized" at a Pen Show! Totally agree that if I want to truly enjoy a Pen Show, I need to leave the husband behind. Also, wax seals are so lovely, but the Post Office hates them--totally messes up their sorting machines!
Pen show every year in February in Los Angeles area is probably the closest to you. Huge show, maybe check it out. But SF is a lot of fun, grows every year, and lots of social activities/classes/seminars. 🌸
There is nothing like your first pen show. This show sounds amazing. I went to my first pen show (SF) in 2014 and funny but I intended to purchase a MB Meisterstuck 149 at that show, but ended up instead with a MB Meisterstuck 146 because the 149 just felt like too big of a pen for me (and too heavy). I purchased mine used, too, always a vintage shopper, from Carmen Rivera Pens (Carmen is fantastic!) I also purchased my first Pelikan, a vintage 140 in green stripe celluloid from Rick Propas (the Penguin). I need to try a nibmeister some time, have definitely had pens tuned by some greats like Mike Masuyama and Jim Rouse (who was with Franklin Christoph). Thanks for all of your enthusiasm and information. Love these videos! 🌸
I attended the San Francisco show for the first time at the end of August. I was completely overwhelmed (I'm new to fountain pens). I bought my first pen from Bart!! He was awesome. I ended up with 2 pens and 2 bottles of ink. Next time I will be more prepared. Thanks for sharing your experience.
My first fountain pen was the Greta Garbo Montblanc. It was for an anniversary gift. I love it. I found it at a vintage market and talked the seller down to $50. I also got the Montblanc bottle with ink.
It was so nice to meet you at the pen show. You were so sweet to let me take a picture with you and then to share our photo too! It was also nice to commiserate with you in the Starbucks line. 😂 (I’m the other Clare, by the way.) 😁 I’m so glad you enjoyed the show and thanks for sharing your experience with us. Enjoy your beautiful pens!!
Clare! I had so much fun chatting with you! I'm so curious about the outcome of that potential big purchase....do tell!! That show was so much fun. Thank you for being a part of my first show!
I’ve not been to a pen show. I’m fairly new in my fountain pen journey and I don’t really have the money to spend on the expensive pens, but I enjoy watching your videos because your enthusiasm is so enjoyable. I’m so glad you enjoyed the Orlando Pen Show.
I did the EXACT thing you talked about, at the D.C. Show, in that I was embarrassed to linger at a table when I didn't really intend to buy. I regret that so much, because I missed out on seeing some wonderful pens and meeting the wonderful makers. I am wanting to buy one of my next pens from Zodiac pens, and just recently discovered that he's located in Charlotte, which is VERY close to me. I'm also interested in the pens that Devine Pens had at the Orlando show.
This was fun to watch...really enjoy the nrgy in the pen show...so many cool options and upgrades and shiny pens..ohhhh 10:33 ....for a second there , i thought that was a chinese dupe *PEN BBS 323 fountain pen* ($25usd) Wonderful purchases you got...thank you for sharing
You hold your pens just fine. How rude are these people on the internet saying you're holding your pens wrong. Hold them however you want to hold them. Your handwriting is lovely and there are many many pens out there that are comfortable for your grip. I've moved pens on to new homes because they weren't the right fit for me. There is no wrong way to hold a pen. Pen shows are awesome and I am anxiously awaiting my next show as well.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I had such a great time watching and listening to your recap. So happy for you to have made so many new connections!
What a wonderful video, Lori! I have never been to a pen show but am hoping to make it to one next year. You are so comfortable in front of the camera that I felt like I was there with you. Take care and thanks for sharing.
Hi, Lori! I am new to your channel, so thank you for mentioning that Tata is your last name 🙂. I first found you last night, and I explored a few videos on both your channels, which I enjoyed very much, and now I am a subscriber. You are so natural and personable in front of the camera, and I love the way you present things to us. I am also a fountain pen 🖋️ enthusiast, but my love of them was put aside for awhile when I got back into my other hobby of cross stitching. However, your videos have really recharged my love for this hobby, too. In terms of experience, I am also somewhat of a newbie, so I just love learning from videos like yours. It’s such a thrill to ride along with your adventures in traveling and pen shows, etc. 🤗🥰 I’m only part way through this video, so now I will go back to enjoying it. I can’t wait to catch up on more! Thank you for all you do. By the way, you have beautiful penmanship! 💙 Meline
Just out of Scriptus today in Toronto, Canada. My strategy is budget, arrive early, map out the exhibits that you are interested, plan meal(s) breaks, plan nib work, and network with FP people. Don't forget to go to top brand booths. Got a Pilot Synergy, tote bag, and branded hooded, after a $15 purchase of Iroshizuku vintage bottles of ink (3) definitely the highlight of my show visit. PS Put in paper momentos with a pen show entry in your journal.
It was so nice to meet you in person . We had so much fun . Looking forward to next years pen shows . Hope to see you again . So happy you loved the pelikan . Best . Olga
Olga!! You are the sweetest! Thank you so much for the beautiful Pelikan pen!I was looking for you on Saturday but I didn't see you. I'm so grateful our paths crossed. I know I'll see you again at another show! You are so kind. Thank you!
Great Video Lori. Sid is great. He works on our MB’s. I love Kirk and will send him pens from now on. So great meeting you. I think our next show for sure is Baltimore. It was so fun making stamps with you.
I’ve been watching you for a while. For some reason I thought you lived in Fl. I’m hoping to attend my first pen show this year-2014. I live in Kissimmee (Poinciana area) and I totally relate to your wish for a pen club. There are non around me. I would love to meet some fountain pen ladies near me. I will be sharing this video on our next door.I keep hoping I can stir up some interest here in my development.
Mike!!! Thank you so much for your help at the show! I loved chatting with you and Sid! I hope we cross paths again!! Take care! I’m loving my Montblanc!
Congrats on the 149!! Hope that the extraction went well. Had one a couple of months ago. Interesting to discover that teeth do not want to leave you. Thanks for this fun vid. SF, a few weeks ago, was my first show. Overwhelming, but learned a lot. Best to you in your recovery.
Omg this video was just recommended to me in my feed and we actually made a small interaction! Its so cool to hear my voice in the background when you had your nibs worked on by Kurt. It was really nice meeting you! Subscribing to your channel now :)
Agree on the Esterbrook table. From last year's table, Esterbrook gave away pins, buttons, and a good price on their bee page holder, after trying out their nib demo.
I enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing your experience at the show. I lost a vintage fountain pen with a sweet flex I used for drawing. I haven't found anything similar yet. I didn't know anything about pen collecting until I started looking for a replacement. I'm trying my hardest NOT to become a collector. Hahaha.
I went totally BONKERS crazy on spending over the first three years - then I got to the point where I have so many nice pens of all makes and models that I (thankfully) really don't have the desire to get a new pen just to get a new pen anymore. So now I only get maybe 3 or 4 pens a year - most of them from the Ohio Pen Show. Thanks for the video!
Hello, a nice way to spend money instead of buying bags :-) .Going into italian pens Aurora and Montegrappa are a must for a pen collector. Aurora making their own in-house nibs has most variety of nibs available including special nibs like stub, italic cursive or proprietary Goccia nibs.
So bummed about Boston. I know there is a smaller show happening in the area this weekend, but I'm not sure I'll be able to make it. Maybe we'll cross paths in DC next year! Thanks for watching!
So glad that you enjoyed your first pen show! They are amazing! My first (and only) pen show was in Denver many years ago where I meant so many great people. At that time, I didn't really know what I was looking at or what I really wanted. But as time went on, my tastes have become more refined, as yours has. I was planning on the SF show this year, but just the week before I ended up breaking my foot, so no pen show for me this year. Boo hoo! But Kirk is my go-to nibmeister. I have also purchased several pens from him and all of them are great!
Oh no! I hope your foot is healing! I'm sorry you missed the show. Kirk was incredible! It was so nice to see so many of the pens and people I've been admiring online in person! I hope you can get to SF next year! Thanks so much for watching!
I love listening to you about pens! Glad i came across your UA-cam channel. 🙂 Oh and i think "Nib Jedi" would be a great business name for a nib meister to use!
What a great haul. I've got the Nahvalar Key West. It is my first next level pen (my first was a Pilot Kakuno). However I've since purchased the Kaweco Dia 2. Anyway, sending wishes for a swift and complete healing. Awaiting your next video. P.s. I'm a cancer, too😊
Thank you for sharing this!. I wqs supposed to go and was under the weather so couldn't make it. I will definitely go next year 😊 Glad to know I’m not the only open nerd out there 👍😊
I watch and love your other channel ..i feel like im listening to another language 🤣but it's fascinating! i am a fine point fan myself with pens in general..
Thanks so much for this video, Lori. I haven't been to a pen show yet. Your purchases are all beautiful. (Do you have contact info for Sid and Kirk?) There's a pen show in Toronto in the fall. I live about 4 hours away so that will likely be my first pen show. I just watched a video on the San Fran pen show - too crowded - but lots of vendors from Japan. Aidan said more so than East coast shows. The Orlando show looks much less crowded and more my speed. What is a "journaler nib"? I've never heard of that before your mention of it in this video.
I so want to go to a pen show. My best opportunity was this weekend to catch the one in Dallas but alas I came down with strep. You got so many beauties.
Oh my, your first Pelikan. I love all my pens but when I tried Pelikan I couldn’t get enough, they write beautifully. You mentioned the brown tortoise, I have the brown tortoise M400, next up is the green M600.
Oh gosh. I’m so happy to find your channel. I don’t know any women who love pens, I don’t know anyone of any gender who loves pens, actually. Next year I’ll attend a few shows. Ok, back to this video now.
I’ve been to the DC pen show every year for the past 5 years minus 2020 Covid 😢. My advice get the 3 day pass and scope it out Thursday. It gets super busy over the weekend.
Thanks for the video! I love seeing videos of pen show experiences since I haven’t been to any besides the Commonwealth Pen Show in Boston. This year the Commonwealth Pen Show is in Monson, MA, and it is this Saturday (9/16/23)! It would be fun to see you there!
Enjoyed this so much. Hope your extraction went well. I have never been to a pen show. I live in Virginia and I hope to go to the DC show in 2024. I also love the handmade pens. Check Cult Pens for Pelikan prices. Super great company out of England. I noticed their prices are lower on Laban and Pelikan.
I went to my first pen show last year in Denver, it was so fun! Though I didn’t get the chance to talk to vendors, I’m quite a bit younger than you and it seemed that they just weren’t interested.
1st pen show is always so special. Glad to hear you had such a wonderful experience. Who is Mike that you referenced from New York? Does he have a shop? An IG?
This honestly sounds like a dreamland where you can talk about and try pens all day AND the people there are extremely kind?? I wish i could be there 🥲
I am thinking of going to the Orlando show in September. Having never been to a show before, I really don’t know what to expect. Are pens, inks, and paper cheaper at shows - or is it only the “so much in one place” that is the draw? When you consider that everything you could ever want is on Amazon, are things going to be cheaper - or perhaps even more expensive? Any advice from anyone who knows more than me would be very appreciated!
Hi. Enjoyed the video of your pen show experience. Out of curiosity, what does a Montblanc 149 vintage pen typically sell for at a show like that? Also, do you have Sid’s contact info? Thanks!!
I went to the show for the first time and got a Mont Blanc pen. Is there a certain ink to use it with? I’m having a hard time writing with it. It either writes too wet or it barely writes. I mean the ink doesn’t flow as well.
I’m also newish to the fountain pen world and haven’t been to a show yet. I’m wondering if the great extras / giveaways and prices you got is a normal pen show thing? I know this was your first show, so maybe some of your viewers that are somewhat pen show regulars can add some insight. I’m not a person that normally gets special offers or perks on other things even as I see them given to folks around me. Maybe that would change at a pen show?! 😬
No, it's not a usual thing for someone to give you a pen. Obviously, these two people really hit it off and formed a friendship. You'll get a tote bag, mabe a bottle of ink, stickers and badge type pins, but no fountain pens. Some pen makers have Rickshaw single pen sleeves that you will receive when you purchase one of their pens. Someone may be willing to give you a discounted price on a pen, but many people will not. But, those people who are influencers have contacts that may enable them to get great deals. I don't KNOW that. It's just a speculation. I do know that some influencers are sent complimentary pens to review.
@@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 Thanks for the response. I should have been more specific with my inquiry as it was geared more toward the vendor interactions, but you covered that as well. A pen show is still on my list of things to do, but I have a more realistic expectation now.
You hit right into my soul with your comment about the designer bag but now you are focused on pens. I too saved my money for a designer bag and while I now have that money, I would much rather spend my money on pens and journaling and planners. I get so much more fulfillment from my pens than a purse. Love your channel.
Hi Bart! Thanks so much for watching. Your Pisces pen will always be special to me! You let me know when my Ruby Cancer pen is ready!! xo
IJS I’m a July baby also ♌️
Thank you for sharing your experience and the haul. :)
Ahhh! Thanks for the mention and I am so glad you met Bart! Loved this video and hope to meet you at a pen show next year! And that Brown Black M800 is my grail! And Francisco from Hinze is awesome!
Thanks Lori. I’m learning so much about pens from you. X
I have been going back and make sure I’ve watched all your videos and you say in this video you had no Pelikan pens yet. Look at you now ❤ It’s fun to see the growth and how much fun you’ve had along the way!
Wow your first Pelikan is a gift - how absolutely precious! 🖋💜
So precious! Olga was like a little pen fairy! She's so incredibly generous! The pen is a beautiful writer!
Awesome ❤👍👌😊

I’m definitely ready for the D.C show as well❤ Next time I’ll get an all access pass. Maybe we will meet there.
I love how you approached your first fountain pen show pen! You will get all the nostalgic feels every time you break it out!
Orlando was the first pen show for my daughter and I too! To help with the impulse buy and budget, we agreed that we would walk the whole show and jot down notes on what we liked before we made any purchases.

Thanks for watching! It was a great first show experience!
Omg Bart is the best. I have two of his pens and I just ordered my third Commission pen.
That's so exciting! He is such a sweet guy! His pens are beautiful!
It was my first show, too! We want on Saturday. I’m glad you had a great time with so many great finds!
Hi Melissa! I hope you had fun too! It was a great first pen show experience. Such nice people were in attendance!

The Golden Beryl Pelikan will look gorgeous with your Sailor Home pen!🎉
They will really compliment each other! I still can't believe Olga gave me my first Pelikan! What a love!
Thanks for sharing your show experience! New subscriber!

There is good innocent humour in this video
Great Video Lori. Sid is great. He works on our MB’s. I love Kirk and will send him pens from now on. So great meeting you. I think our next show for sure is Baltimore.
It was so fun making stamps with you.
how fun, thanks again for posting
How fantastic…you are certainly living the fountain pen dream 💙
omg stop that nib shaped bookmark is SO CUTE

GREAT HELPING YOU AT THE SHOW. MIKE BLOOM
Mike!!! Thank you so much for your help at the show! I loved chatting with you and Sid! I hope we cross paths again!! Take care! I’m loving my Montblanc!
Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. A real feast! Please come to the London Pen show on 8th October!!

It was so nice meeting you at the show. ❤
I love listening to you about pens! Glad i came across your UA-cam channel. 🙂
Oh and i think "Nib Jedi" would be a great business name for a nib meister to use!
What a great haul. I've got the Nahvalar Key West. It is my first next level pen (my first was a Pilot Kakuno). However I've since purchased the Kaweco Dia 2. Anyway, sending wishes for a swift and complete healing. Awaiting your next video.
P.s. I'm a cancer, too😊
I love your haul! I have yet to attend a pen show. I'm afraid i would loose control! 😂
My first pen show as well! Will not be the last.
It was a great show!
I love your videos!!!❤❤❤
Oh my, your first Pelikan. I love all my pens but when I tried Pelikan I couldn’t get enough, they write beautifully. You mentioned the brown tortoise, I have the brown tortoise M400, next up is the green M600.
Oh gosh. I’m so happy to find your channel.
I don’t know any women who love pens, I don’t know anyone of any gender who loves pens, actually. Next year I’ll attend a few shows. Ok, back to this video now.
Welcome! I'm so happy you found me too! You'll find lots of women and men who love pens here! I hope you enjoy it!
I’ve been to the DC pen show every year for the past 5 years minus 2020 Covid 😢. My advice get the 3 day pass and scope it out Thursday. It gets super busy over the weekend.
I’ve been to the Baltimore and Philadelphia pen shows. I was a little overwhelmed tbh with all the choices.
Thanks for the video! I love seeing videos of pen show experiences since I haven’t been to any besides the Commonwealth Pen Show in Boston. This year the Commonwealth Pen Show is in Monson, MA, and it is this Saturday (9/16/23)! It would be fun to see you there!
It was great meeting you at the show!
Love your new pens :)
Are you going this September? I am! Flying in from Costa Rica. Do you plan to take the classes?
I went to my first pen show last year in Denver, it was so fun! Though I didn’t get the chance to talk to vendors, I’m quite a bit younger than you and it seemed that they just weren’t interested.
1st pen show is always so special. Glad to hear you had such a wonderful experience. Who is Mike that you referenced from New York? Does he have a shop? An IG?
I have been wanting to go to a pen show. Are you going to the one in DC?
This honestly sounds like a dreamland where you can talk about and try pens all day AND the people there are extremely kind?? I wish i could be there 🥲
It was so wonderful! I hope you can make it to a show in the future!
That ♓️!!! It’s sold out tho 😢
How did the extraction go?
Hi. Enjoyed the video of your pen show experience. Out of curiosity, what does a Montblanc 149 vintage pen typically sell for at a show like that? Also, do you have Sid’s contact info? Thanks!!
Sid’s standard 149 pens were between $400-$500. He pays great attention to detail with his restoration.
On Instagram he is: instagram.com/penlover.medstudent/
Cool video. Have fun at the dentist.
My question is, what ink is in your Montblanc?
A challenge for you: match your fingernail polish with the color of your favorite pen.
Challenge accepted!
I went to the show for the first time and got a Mont Blanc pen. Is there a certain ink to use it with? I’m having a hard time writing with it. It either writes too wet or it barely writes. I mean the ink doesn’t flow as well.
Oh no! I haven't used any kind of special ink in my 149 but I plan to stay away from shimmer inks just to be safe!
How can one get in contact with Sid for a Montblanc?
What is the name of your dog?
I thought you brought a Dior with your Chanel funds?
My Dior bag was half the price of a Chanel…I kept putting money aside for a while, but yes I used some of the funds for that bag, which I love! 💕
