My father loved Citroens. After owning DS Types for 20 Years, he bought an Citroen CX Prestige in 1986. All Citroens he had in the past, turned out to be Nightmares! While having big driving fun, they had to visit the workshop at least once or twice a month. His new CX Prestige had to visit the shop WEEKLY. All his travells with this car ended on the back of a wrecker, who had to bring this CX to the shop to get repaired. Over a range of five years, he spend far over 100.000 $ to get this Nightmare of a Car fixed. This finally endet when the engine exploded. It droped a Rod while highspeed driving, engine decomposed and left an encreadable mass on the Highway.

The rust devil finally took it.
This video brings tears to my eyes 😢
It was such a fantastic comfortable car to drive, you didnt want to get out of it.
Maintenance however was not that fantastic - the handbrakes (working on front wheels) had to be manually adjusted every 5000km (3200 miles) to work.
The result was that you had handbrakes for some 4000km, then no handbrakes for 6000km until you reached the oil service interval at 10000km 😊
The CX handbrake system (all CX models) was a heritage from the renowned 2CV 👀

oh my, how much i loved my CX25 GTI Turbo2 and later the CX 25 GTI. The last Citroen Model before Peugeot took over and f**ed up the brand. Driving a C5 (III) and a C6 now, which are amazing cars, but the DS and CX had this special feeling to it. Congrats to this beautiful ride - wishing you a long and wonderful relationship with it! Cheers and regards from Austria

I use to fix one at the garage where I work, even that one is a CX GTI Turbo 2, all leather interior with those typical red "GTI" lines in its upholstery... Everytime I go test it after some repair, man... It is a joy to drive, powerful too!

My old man used to had the smaller version the “CX” in late eighties. Also had the same style suspension where one can easily adjust for ether -off road( not by means of 4x4)
    On road - centre height
    And freeway- the lowest mode
That was very cool car for it’s time 👍

Nice review. One of our company cars in the early 80s was a CX2400 Safari. Easily carried all our camera crew, gear and luggage. As a camera platform it was amazingly stable. It was also surprisingly fast. Would easily cruise at 80 to 90 mph with a full load. Once you got used to the idiosyncrasies in the switches and the semi-auto 3 speed it was very easy to drive. I found that in heavy town traffic (London, UK) you could leave it in 2nd! I would love to have owned one.

Sorry, but that's incorrect. I have owned a GS, a GSA and a BX and with the exception of the BX, which I'm not sure about, the others work the same way. The gauge is indeed a LEVEL gauge for the first 10s, but as the engines starts turning, it indicates pressure. The man is correct...

    • @blitzroehre1807
      @blitzroehre1807 4 роки тому

Depends on which version of the CX. On series 1 with the digital speedo it was indeed only a level gauge which indicated with the ignition on before engine startup. On this series 2 it is a combo level and pressure gauge. Look at the 2 marks on the dial halfway up. Thats min and max oil level.

Got one of those. The coolest feature in my opinion is the fact it can take speed bumps and rough terrain extremely well.
A 30km/h speed bump you can take at 80 or 90 or 200, it doesn't matter.
But the tailgating bmw or audi in your rear view mirror can't handle that at all.
Resuling in your tailgating friend hitting his head against his roof, his mcdonalds meal launching around his interior and all sorts of other entertaining and often dangerous situations.

    • @Alantheleopard

The problem with trying to simplify things and make it that parts like brakes or suspension share the same LHM oil tank is that in case of a loss of LHM pressure, you run out of brakes, suspension and even steering.
We have a 1978 Citroën GS (Pallas), the same car that saw me been born (not a car bought over the recent years) and a few times we suffered from LHM pressure failure, so the car "collapsed" and there was no steering at all. Luckily, we were stopped in our garage!

    • @truthseeker8483

@@Alantheleopard Well every car made today has brake fluid that can be lost..but how often does that happen..the point I am making is that in 2019 it should be possible to do something better than springy pieces of metal for suspension..the hydropneumatic system could have fail safe features built in and be made much cheaper with today's technology. Self levelling and active antiroll should be standard on every car.
