I was pleasantly surprised when I went to China. It was nothing like we've been told back home. It has the most amazing Civic Infrastructures and cheap Civic Services. Their public transport is second to none. Their Bullet Trains between Cities, their driverless RoboCabs, EV's everywhere replacing the combustion vehicles, fast charging stations, their Internet is super fast with fast 5G EVERYWHERE in China, and soon to be 6G. Their smart AI Skyscrapers, the abundance of food, the cleanliness, the safety, and shopping without fear even at 3am in the morning. To see the REAL CHINA, people need to get themselves a passport and visit China. Our Media are not telling you the truth about China.
China is a civilized, open, clean, orderly, and beautiful safe country. Even if you walk on the streets of China at two o'clock in the night, it is very safe. The quality of life of the Chinese people is also very high. China's rural areas are also very clean, and the roads are also very safe. Very well built. Chinese people abide by public order very much and have no racial discrimination. 99% of Western media reports on China are lies and seriously mislead Westerners.
@@DONTSASSMEBOI Japan's economy has been stagnant for more than 20 years, its population is aging seriously, and its society has no vitality. It has long been a run-down country, and your thinking is still stuck in the last world. China ranks first in the world in 5G technology and new electric vehicle technology, and Japan has long been crushed by China in terms of technology.
Highly recommend travelling China - my wife is chinese and I lived there for a while. But dont go 'full rural' - you might be in for a bit of a shock if you do. Id highly recommend the yellow mountains - go down to Hangzhou and you can catch a coach out to the mountains. Hangzhou and the historic west lake is well worth a look too. There are hotels on the top of the mountains and if you get your timing right you will see the most spectacular mountain views (get it wrong and you will see a lot of clouds). Also if you do stay in a hotel on the yellow moutains, you have to go up cable cars and then climb paths, so back pack luggage only (although you can store suitcases at places in the town at the bottom of the mountains. Then you can cut back in to maybe Huangshan city and fly to shanghai from there. Beijing can take you well over a week just taking in the historical places and, of course, the Great Wall is a must see. If you go to the Great Wall I highly recommend staying at a good hotel in Beijing and getting them to organise a car and driver for a day to Badaling for you. Its not cheap but if you go on a coach tour you get limited time on the wall. if you have a driver youre free to pick your own times and you get the wall to yourself after the tourist coaches go, which is great. Badaling is the most 'touristy" of the major Great Wall locations but its the easiest to access if youre a casual tourist. If you drive there and spend the whole day there its well worth it. Shanghai is - or was - full of great restaurants. You dont speak chinese so its difficult for you but if you can find a local taxi driver they usually can recommend great places for food. As youve probably already figured out there is no real chinese food outside china - real chinese food is on another level. Also, in case you dont know, keep your passports on you at all times. Often even when you enter free venues the people on the door will want to record your ID. AT the national museum in Beijing you used to have to line up to get your ID checked and be given a ticket, then go to another gate to hand in your ticket and be let in - but it was, at that time anyway, free to enter. Ive experienced similar silly stuff in Guangzhou. Speaking of which you should definitely go up the high buildings in shanghai and definitely try the bubble cars on the roof of the Canton tower in Guangzhou. China and the ordinary people are great but there are a few downsides. The major ones for tourists are that out in the country you might not be allowed into local hotels (they have to report your presence to authorities and some places couldnt be bothered so they just bar foreigners), some places are EXTREMELY primitive when it comes to facilities (if you havent seen a squat toilet look that up) and unfortunately you do sometimes get targeted by small scale scammers and people trying to sell you rubbish.

Wish you guys could have more time to explore this amazing and mysterious country. Shanghai is famous for its delicious food and incredible skyscrappers, but most importantly, it is the most westernized city in China. Many residents living and working in this area know at least a little English, so they can bring foreiners a good experience traveling to China.
Going to Chengdu in a few months on the same transit visa. We will be in Vietnam and will have a return ticket. I believe we will set up WeChat pay, as well as get some cash. It looks like we will take the new fast rail from Honk Kong to downtown Chengdu. If all goes well, we would like to spend a month in China. We have spent 2 weeks there several years ago and are looking forward to returning. Thanks for the video. Well done.
Alipay is more convenient for foreigners because it can be tied to international bank cards, and I suppose if you want to go to Chengdu from Hong Kong, flying is a better choice because it will take you 9 hours and 45 minutes by high-speed train which is been too long since you only have a 144-hour transit visa. I suggest you fly from Hong Kong to Chongqing for a day sightseeing, which is another extraordinary giant city not far from Chengdu, then lastly transfer to Chengdu by high-speed rail.
Thanks for the advice. We're still working out plans. Since we'll be in Vietnam for at least six months, we might bite the bullet and get a 30-60 day China visa and not be rushed by the 144 hr. Time will tell. Thanks for the advice.@@jasonshen6981

We appreciate you offering the global community an authentic glimpse into Shanghai. This cosmopolitan metropolis harbors tremendous allure, and the bulk of its denizens are amicable and benevolent. Unfortunately, depictions of China in certain Western media outlets and of the West in some Chinese media channels tend to be skewed and disheartening. Much like the majority of Westerners, we aspire to engage in mutual respect and cross-cultural understanding. Your presence in China is always cherished should you opt to return in the future!
The beauty about the Bund walk is also having the modern skyline on one side of the water, and the old colonial buildings on the other side. There's always something very satisfying about seeing the Chinese flag on top of the colonial buildings that are beautiful but also symbolise a dark period in China's history. Always loved coming back to China, Shanghai was my favourite city in the world to live in as an expat, but I had to leave when covid came. Shanghai 2019 is still the best year in my life.
amazing -i am doing this next month, and main issue is people at airport checking you in not knowing about the exemption - i am flying hong kong first so hopefully that is more on the ball!
The building view behind you is the one before China closed to the world and the building view in front of you is the one after China opened to the world again in 1978.
Wow China. Take years to discover China. My mother visited more than 7 times including the remote xinjiang province. Still not enough to cover the whole country.
My tip for going to Shanghai if you want a good view of the entire city, I don't recommend going to the Oriental Pearl Tower, since it's not as tall as the other skyscrapers and it's better to have it as a part of the view. Going to the Shanghai Tower or the World Financial Center (the Bottle Opener) would give you a better view of the entire city with the river

Great vid Joel! My girlfriend and I are flying via China when we go to Australia later this year. Do you need to sort the transit visa before you get to the airport or is this what they were sorting for you? We will only be in China to get the connecting flight which is around 2.5 hours after we land so wont be leaving the airport
You don’t need to apply before hand for the transit visa, the only thing is if you are having to go through customs it took us about 2 hours to get through you may not have enough time to connect, but I think we didn’t have an especially long queue
It is supposed that you do not need to go through custom checking if you stay inside the airport international transition area, and certainly you do not need a transit visa unless you want to get out of the airport during this 2.5 hour period.
If you're just transiting at the airport, you don't need a transit visa! Because there is no need to go through customs. If you want to go to Shanghai and need a ticket to a third country, you can apply for a 144-hour transit visa!
Back a few years ago, not all shops accept cash. But there was a government verdict I think last year or 2 years ago, saying ALL shops MUST accept cash. So nowadays, they are not allowed to say no to you. Problem is not all of them have the correct change. So you'll need to have the correct amount.
I heard about 144 hours visa about 5 hrs before coming to UA-cam and seeing your video. Thanks for the tour. I will be in that area later this year. Perhaps, I will include China.
the government doesn’t allow normal foreign tourists to visit XiZang provinces(tibet). I think it’s due to history, politics, and religious reasons. You need to get a entry permission, not 100% impossible but complicated.@@kakaxifx4913

i liked every other city in China better than Shanghai. friendlier, happier people, more culture.
Thank you for sharing your experience. You are both amazing🇺🇸🇯🇲🖤🙏🏾
Just wanted to say this and your whole china series is brilliant proper top work! As a new viewer would be great to hear more about your personal story/ could point me to where this is in a video if that's something you would want to share with the world! But honestly such good travel content!
cute couple, welcome to come to Shanghai my hometown again in future with a more deep dive
hey Joel, welcome to Shanghai! your video is amazing!
highly recommend you guys go to Chongqing city in China, cyberpunk city.
We would love to at some point!
Welcome all friends to travel to China, you will find a beautiful world that is different from what the media sees, full of charm, clean, quiet, and safe country!
As a Shanghai person, I don't recommend you to come to Shanghai in summer, because there are a lot of tourists in summer vacation, I recommend you to come to Shanghai in autumn, there are very beautiful streets, thank you again for making Shanghai so beautiful, I really enjoy your video
144-hour transit visa are very useful for entry level traveler. Enjoy your journey in China. Hope you bring more interesting deep travel vlog in the future.
THE best light show is in ShenZhen, not ShangHai.
and have a good trip.
Well done.
用支付宝就可以了,可以绑定国外的银行卡,
Alipay is more convenient for foreigners because it can be tied to international bank cards, and I suppose if you want to go to Chengdu from Hong Kong, flying is a better choice because it will take you 9 hours and 45 minutes by high-speed train which is been too long since you only have a 144-hour transit visa.
@@RePete02 as a Brit they told me the limit for the visa validity was 30 days - this was in Saigon today. No multiple entry or any stay longer than 30 days.
Like Mexico, one office says one thing another says something else. We will check into it more closely soon. Thanks for the heads up. We will be returning to Da Nang on the 10th.

welcome to Shanghai! I love Caption's bar!!
It’s such a great bar with a view! 😄
Your presence in China is always cherished should you opt to return in the future!
thanks for this video! my bf and I are about to transit through china to seoul. hope everything works out🤗
Welcome to the Middle Kingdom guys. Enjoy
我是一名在外国留学的中国人,我不是上海人,但是我在上海居住过两年,上海是我这一生最难忘的城市
Wonderful viewpoints
Welcome to China ❤
It is Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Qingdao that does synchronized light show with their buildings on a regular basis, like two times a week
Love China!
amazing -i am doing this next month, and main issue is people at airport checking you in not knowing about the exemption - i am flying hong kong first so hopefully that is more on the ball!
The building view behind you is the one before China closed to the world and the building view in front of you is the one after China opened to the world again in 1978.
是的,他代表了中国的过去与外来,我们中国对科幻的未来十分憧憬并努力达到他,而且我们欢迎全世界各国人民
Another awesome video brother, 😊 am so proud of you. Thanks for inputting me also to start a UA-cam channel since long time ago 😊 now it’s finally growing too. Hope one day we can make a collaboration video 😊 and alert I could get support from you again 😁 😊
Ayy thanks man! Awesome to hear your creating and having success too!
@@Joelfriend you nailed it men, was actually having a trip to china 🇨🇳 but changed plans, may be we may meet on another country brother , enjoy life always. I will check you on IG so as we can continue keeping in touch 😎
If you want to try the most bad-ass metro in China, you definitely need to go to Guangzhou and take Line 3 of the metro.
Very cool video😊
Thank you!!
As a developed city, Shanghai is very fascinating to tourists.
You guys are adorable! Please do come to visit more places next time!! You are definitely welcomed!
Shanghai is a delicious and fun place. I hope you enjoy your trip.
You lost the “Y” sound in YUAN(Chinese dollar), so it is pronounced as “Yi-uan” .
You could take the #2 subway to city every easy
It is not available to all nationalities. Double check before you go.
If you're just transiting at the airport, you don't need a transit visa! Because there is no need to go through customs. If you want to go to Shanghai and need a ticket to a third country, you can apply for a 144-hour transit visa!
You are literally just connecting another flight in the airport in like 2.5 hours, what do you worry about?
the place with three tall buildings is the place where a film called SHE was shot.
I have lives in Shanghai for a few years, and honestly I haven’t seen cash for a long time until I watch this video lol
Back a few years ago, not all shops accept cash.
But there was a government verdict I think last year or 2 years ago, saying ALL shops MUST accept cash.
So nowadays, they are not allowed to say no to you. Problem is not all of them have the correct change. So you'll need to have the correct amount.
Malaysia,Bali and Singapore trip also after 144 hours without visa enter to China and also visit HK by Cathay Pacific after Beijing snd Shanghai trip.
旅途愉快啊,玩的开心
I heard about 144 hours visa about 5 hrs before coming to UA-cam and seeing your video. Thanks for the tour. I will be in that area later this year. Perhaps, I will include China.
Perfect timing, heading to Taiwan in 2 weeks will be looking out for your tips
Awesome, it was such an awesome city!
if you go to xinjiang in the futuer, you will get a bigger surprise---completely different from what the media said.@@Joelfriend
Great video... Nice getaway pit stop.
I remember when we go to the China visit the family, most place I use visa card, you can also use we chat with visa card.
So futuristic. That swirl building.
you can try traveling to small city in chain, there is full human smokefire, although the journey may not be convenient.
謝謝您 !!! thank you very very much for telling the truth about CHINA , welcome !!!
my friend , have a nice day !!
i hope you go back. check guilin, yangshuo, fenghuang, lijiang. there are countless other breathtaking ancient towns.
Well, you can go to Xinjiang (south Xinjiang) , Tibet etc. too many unique places to enjoy.
ximjiang possible, tibet impossible for normal foreignors
@@SiSusu-k8g why tibet impossible ? Need time to get used to the air?
the government doesn’t allow normal foreign tourists to visit XiZang provinces(tibet). I think it’s due to history, politics, and religious reasons. You need to get a entry permission, not 100% impossible but complicated.@@kakaxifx4913
xinjiang is also hard for foreigners. I used to take 3 European friends to travel in Xinjiang. There were so many barriers and procedures for them…
It's nice to be able to do that before the war breaks out
you're brainwashed if you believe that
Welcome to China! Hope you can come back to visit other Chinese cities some day!
In france they shut down Lights after 10pm in some cities 😢 shanghai looks fantastic 🎉
Welcome to Shanghai! The only problem is it is really hot in August!
Those potstickers must be incredible!
Welcome to travel to China. It is recommended to go to Beijing, Chengdu, and Chongqing. If you have enough time, you can take the train to Tibet.
We have been to Beijing and we currently in Chongquing, we have a. Big China series coming out very soon! We are very excited to share with you all!
@@Joelfriend
For example, there are large-scale stage plays in Luoyang and Xi'an. If you come across them, you must see them. Video recording may not be allowed, but you can take photos. It is a shocking feeling.
Whether it is the increase in tourism attractiveness or changes in relevant policies and attitudes, we can see that China's influence on the world stage is gradually increasing. This is the real China.
Welcome and hope you enjoy your trip😊
Thank you for sharing the true China. Enjoy your trip in China 😊😊
It looks a wonderful city does Shanghai.
Welcome to china, have a good time
Please make more China videos 🙏🙏!!
Come back and stay longer in China. You will find out how rich and amazing this culture is!
welcome to Shanghai❤
The only two good British I have seen on UA-cam who behave politely in my country👍👍👍
在油管之外,其他地方是否有转发的?
Welcome to China❤❤❤
Love you from China❤❤❤
Thx for making this beautiful video
In Shenzhen, they do light shows of skyscrapers every night
It really is a wonderful country.
Taiwan next? Looking forward to that!
Next week! 😄
China is so safe and friendly to the foreigners ❤
why did you not use the MAGLEV from the airport.. That must be a great experience
We did on the way back to the airport but on the way there we were very confused and couldn’t find anyone to ask. It was a very cool train!
ah ok, shame you didnt show it in the video.. was it easy to use (buy tickets/signposted )
- hopefully doing a 144 day visa next month on route to SE Asia@@Joelfriend
great video, but actually, maybe there is a littele delay in information, there is no need for covid test anymore
Thanks for the insights! Just wondering, was the flight to Taipei on the same ticket as the flight from Budapest, or a different booking all together? Not sure if flights need to be on the same ticket to count for the visa. Thanks.
You guys are beautiful couple. My coworkers and my son in-law refused to visit China. They think China would spy on them, and spy on their phones.
Did you find it hard to find shops where they accept cash?
Yes manage to find it very easy to pay in cash in the end
@@Joelfriend great to hear. I've friends visiting and asking them to link their cards to Alipay just in case. As no one really carries cash here anymore.
Shanghai Tower is not highest in the world because it doesn’t have some “cheating” antenna😂. But its observation deck is the highest.
@@xarifa777Interesting, you talked like Shanghai Tower doesn't have lightning rod? Or you just pretended not knowing what I mean?
@@xarifa777 According to (GB50057-95) in China, Lightning protection is “mandatory” for any building with independent height above 15 meters. Go ahead, keep playing smart lah.
