- It’s time to say goodbye to my trusty Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol Z2 mixer and switch to the Numark Scratch, moving from Traktor DJ to Serato DJ Pro.
This isn't a review-just me sharing what’s happening in my home studio and my thoughts behind the switch. The Traktor Z2 has served me well over the years, and while it’s a great DJ mixer, it's been feeling a bit unreliable lately. I felt it was time for something new.
If you’re like me-a home studio user who doesn’t need all the extra bells and whistles on a battle mixer-the Numark Scratch is more than enough. That’s my honest opinion!

Super seal and Innofader is the perfect combo
My first battle mixer in the 90s was a Numark Pro SM-1. I got some flak for it by the buddies because Numark was the gold standard at the time, but I played countless gigs with it and used it for ages until it literally fell apart. Fond memories.
Switchgrading! 😁I switched my mpc 1000 switches, it was instantly better 🤷♂
You can internally ground your your turntable
ive had a z2 and a scratch .the scratch is more user friendly
pro tipp: hold down shift and rotate the loop toggle to scroll in ur serato crates.

in terms of software and tools that serato offers for music producers, yes, serato is sooooo much better and as a traktor user i would love to have them in traktor. but yes talking about the machine, numark skratch is worst than a downgrade, they both has the same model of crossfader but the Z2s version is so much better and its knobs and conectors are very very very very very very very very very very very cheap. you can switch the faders tho xD
Yeah. Quality wise, there are 100% differences between Z2 and numark scratch. But I still kinda doubt that I’ll need more than this for the foreseeable future. I’m not bringing it on the road or anything, all I really need is a crossfader and something that supports Serato natively…

I have a thunderbolt 4 hub in the mail right now. uSB has become such a weird “standard”
I worked at Numark when the Scratch mixer came out. Spent allot of time on the road filming videos and going round stores in the UK and Europe. You’ve bought back some memories!

Yo, accurate I basically got the same setup. I have a kp3 though, l can’t justify the price to upgrade to the Kaoss replay. I appreciate you sharing your journey. Peace

Serato DJ Pro with DVS is not necessarily a step up from Traktor because it uses a lower tone, has not as good beat detection and beat gridding and you have to pay extra for basic features that come standard with Traktor. But it's a solid DVS anyway and for your purpose it will do the job just fine. Same goes for the mixer, it's a solid piece of hardware.
Yeah, I know it’s not really as exciting as it feel to me and you’re right in what you’re saying. But now I’m confident that I’ll have a solid setup for at least a few more years to come.

I love the Z2 and is my favorite mixer of all time but unfortunately Traktor's lack of updates and the lack of new gear from NI forced me to abandon the whole eco system. First I went to the Pioneer S9 and now im using the S11 with Serato. It's not as in depth as Traktor but it just works. Its stripped back to the essentials with a few extra's. Nice pickup and congrats on the new gear and welcome to Serato!!!

I kinda feel the same way. If Native had another similar mixer, I don’t think I’d switch systems. I might be wrong but it feels to me like everyone uses setups with Pioneer and Serato these days… I’m sad to see my Z2 going but it’s just not reliable anymore.
