This is going to sound crazy, but when this song came out in the early 1990s my youngest sister said it was her favorite song ever. I remember watching her bounce along to the song whenever it came on the radio, lost in the music.
Flash forward about 15 years to the mid-2000s, when she suffered a serious medical event that put her into a coma. As her condition deteriorated the doctors told my parents to prepare for the worst.
We literally began making funeral arrangements for her. My mother picked out her burial dress, and I burned a CD to play at her funeral service. This was the song I selected to be played. Not only was it her favorite song, but the lyrics will send a chill up your spine under those circumstances:
First you look so strong, then you fade away
The sun will blind my eyes, I'll love you anyway
Thirsty for your smile, I watch you for a while
You are a vapour trail in a deep blue sky
The story has a happy ending: my sister eventually recovered from the coma. Although she suffered severe hearing loss and is still legally deaf from the high levels of medications that were administered to save her life, she is alive and well today and continues to love this song.
Music has a truly remarkable ability to augment and ultimately transcend the human experience.
What a story... Good to hear she pulled through 👍
That's a sad story but also really moving man. ..I use to send this song and lyrics to my crushes in Highschool......it did me pretty fair I'd say I had about a 50% success rate 😂
@@beauyerks7413 I like your story too - happy ending. :)
Incredible story. Thank you for sharing xx
Quite simply one of the best indie songs ever written
Quite simply put! Congratulations!
Indeed.
Agreed....saw them twice in their heyday....never forgotten
couldn't agree more mate
Right?
this has been my favorite song for almost 30 years.
one of the happiest, sunniest songs ever written.
@@bogdiworksV2 i feel like its extremly melancholic and sad, especially that last line man. its so bittersweet i love it.
Melancholy in crystallized form. This song is easily one of the best to come out of that era. Ride’s song writing and musicianship was head and shoulders above most of their contemporaries and all four guys bring a lot to each song, no one in this band is simply along for the ride(no pun intended).
Beautiful song
Me too.
I can't believe how young the singer's voice still is .. the tone hasn't gone deeper...
well i guess not having to use it at all for about 15 years (whilst oasis basist) would've helped by yea still crazy
He has been Oasis bass player for 10 years so he saved it :) Love Andy Bell ❤
@Saitama nah
Could a song be more perfect? An amazing melding of words, melody, and chord progressions. This song will be played at my funeral. So damn good.
No meu tbm.
Also on my funeral play list!
Mine too, it’s perfect
That drummer is killing it!
LOZ!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joel Perez one of the best.
Indeed, its very difficult to follow him😱😱😱
Gotta love loz
Awesome he is!
Loz Colbert is literally one of the greatest drummers of the last 50 years!
Always loved when the drums kick in
He’s a very natural, flowing drummer.
Easily top 10 in all history, love his style 💗 Him and Sean Kinney are my fav drummers
I feel like my brain is having a shower whenever I listen to this song.
It's the cymbals!
I’ve probably listened to this song 10,000 times in my lifetime 😂
Ah the memories, drinking cans in a field, all off our heads. All happy in a field in dublin the 90s
expand on this, i love memories
@@theamazingbrokenman ah we were just teenagers, having fun, we used to just go crazy doing everything and anything but hurting no-one. The song just reminds me of old friends who I haven't seen in a long time.
Just discovered this song, I'm 38...But I know what you mean, I remember listening to Copper Blue and The House of Love 25 years ago...those sweet 16, when you feel invincible and your friends are everything, everything was so pure, the things that would be but were not...this song takes to me to those times. Brilliant song and lyrics. God bless you
I wasn't there mate. But I feel like I was with you in spirit 🇬🇧🤝🇮🇪
Same
What a song. I was 20 when I first heard it. And now I’m 53.
U a legend
I remember doing my A Levels and listening to the Nowhere album on repeat, dear me about 30 years ago. Those songs felt like the future then, and still do now. They stand up really well compared to a lot of other bands of the time. Apart from the great tunes, the drummer is amazing. If you listen to the mixes on Nowhere, he is always front and centre .
Thank Alan Moulder for that. He mixed it.
The song that should never end!!!!
forever a classic
The drummer holds the band together in this majestic gathering. Love this song, brings back lots of happy memories
I’m 49.
Still in love with this song!
I was just a kid when I drove around in my first car listening to this tape💕💕💕
Just a perfect song!
One of the best songs ever to come out of the early 90's. Maybe one of the best ever.
I completely agree. Their entire first album is brilliant beyond belief.
I never get over how beautiful this song is. chills every time.
I’ve got them as well mate…💪
Magic. Brings me back to my teenage years, wearing flares and t-shirts, long hair(which is still hanging in) drinking flagons of cider and smoking hash with a big gang of friends. We thought we’d never get older and thanks to uploads such as this I’m a teenager again. Much Love from Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪
loz is an absolute phenomenal drummer.
One of my favourite songs and this is a great live version but one of my favourite things about this song is the string arrangement. The cello and violin in this song are haunting , rich and get me every time.
Perfect description 👌👍
Somehow that looks kind of melancholic: you can see them young performing their song in 1991, and now you see them 26 years later performing the same song which has become an anthem to the young themselves.
mihanich but they also have new material which is just as good so your point is what exactly?
Ken Lowrie I think you completely miss his point..he wasn't being derogatory.
Lucky enough to have done both (ie 91 and 19). And love that comment. way too profound for YT ha!

One of the most magnificent love songs ever written that will last for generations.
by far the best Vapour Trail performance i've ever heard
Such a 90s sound. 90s guitar, 90s drums. Ace.
Our Idols age, but they’re music will never die.
This gave me chills and tears. I need to pull out my 90's catalog and nest for a weekend. They say your musical tastes are formed in your 20's. I know mine were.
Man I am obsessed with this drummer, I don’t think I’ve seen better.. only known about ride for a couple of months, he’s like the frontman to me, not that the other members don’t match up, but his beats are prominent in almost every song, stand out, cool your boots is going to be one of my very favourite tunes of all time
Very Reni influenced, in a good way :)
That's a really good point, without the groove provided by the beat this would be a good song but with the drums it's classic
Introducing Laurence "Loz" Colbert; drummer extraordinaire
He is a brilliant drummer.
this song is so freaking amazing love from ethiopia, africa
i've cried, dreamt and laughed on this track, i'm so grateful they exist
This was my joy, beauty, hope, happiness. I felt this in my heart every time I heard it. When it came on in a club (Picassos Worcester every week) it lifted my soul. To this day I can't believe you can play this live. I thought it was only possible to make this sound in a studio. How wrong I was.
Ride, thank you for being part of my life in many important seasons! Hope to have the chance to see you all one day! ❤
So beautiful...takes me back 30 plus years. Used to listen to a radio show here in Detroit called Big Sonic Heaven....without that show I never would have heard Ride, Lush, My Bloody Valentine, etc.....
Love it. What beautiful looking guitars 🎸
Another RIDE song live that is so phenomenal. Put this on repeat for hours and that would suit me just fine. I love this band.
I loved this when I was a kid and I love it now.
Beautiful - absolutely gorgeous. Even after all these years. Imagine being described as a 'vapour trail'. Fleeting, intangible, transient. Makes me want to cry for a million different reasons every time I hear it............. 🥰🥰🥰
My high school love
Thank you!
The drummer is amazing
Shoegaze at its best 💙🎶😎🎸
I Agree with you..
No doubt
damn, still gives me goose bumps to this day.....this is greatness.
I can't believe a week ago I didn't know about this song. I have listened to it almost constantly since first hearing it upon recommendation from a friend. It has quickly risen to the pantheon of my favorite songs.
Pure bliss. Can't wait to see them live.
if i see this guys before start playing i wouldnt be expecting this style at all
one of the best songs ever
色褪せない声。エターナルです。最高。

These guys are legends! Such a brilliant song! Brings tears to my eyes!
I love this song since centuries ago, but it offers new meanings after my father passed away Dec 2021. #RIPBapak
The drum in this one is fantastic
woahhhhhhhhhhhhh how did i miss this
Fantastic live version. I've been playing this one a lot lately.
Love this band,this song...this version...great guitars and drums!❤❤🎵🎶🎸🎸🥁
I saw these guys with Pale Saints opening at a place in Charlotte, NC many years ago. Both bands were off the charts.
Lol, I remember that show! I drove up from Savannah for it. 😃❤ Still have my long sleeve Pale Saints shirt from that show.
Life is long when I felt in teens, but short when I feel now. This 4 min 35 sec isn't long or short for me. This song makes the watch in my brain freeze. Master piece.
Goosebumps! This song is a masterpiece.
This is the absolute dog's whatsits! I could listen to that guitar hook / chord loop all day! Loz smashing it on the drums too!
They always are brilliants in every song
The drums are so crisp in this
This song is AMAZING !! I can listen to this song and also Twisterella by Ride on loop for the rest of my life and be happy !! Two of the Greatest Power Pop songs of all time !!
What an amazing gift to wake up to this!!!!
Pure nostalgy.... early 90s 👍This masterpiece is not missing in any of my indie playlists
One of the best outros I've listened to maybe ever
Simply a remarkable song.
2022...a masterpiece!!!!
Moments of the eternal here by the hands and voices of us. Magical. Life giving.
Makes me wanna gaze at a shoe.
uwu
My shoes are gazing to me
@@esauljimenez4021 In Soviet Russia, shoe gazes at you
ALL TIME great song.
pure joy. live better than studio.
Naah, I'm sorry, I think the studio version is perfect. It conveys an intense feeling of nostalgia, speaking directly to my soul. This live performance is good too, though.
Bought the EP in Amsterdam when I went to the university there. Hasn’t been off my mind since then (90’s) and still play it regularly. Simply as good as it gets.
I’m so glad this is in my life.
Favourite song, ever :)
Perfection incarnate.
Ride!! The KEXP studio videos have great sound.
I can remember in college I think it was around 1990, friend of mine in the dorm brought home this single and started cranking it it just floored and was sorry I never got to see him live in the early '90s,
Anthem from my late teens 👌
The few, the proud...The Shoegazers!
Isso não é pouco maravilhoso, isso é maravilhoso DEMAIS!
Now THIS is christmas !!!
The best song ever
Di fronte ad un brano suonato in questa maniera tutti dovrebbero alzarsi e applaudire la più grande band Brit degli anni '90. Punto!
these drums are something else man!
😢 best song ever from ride
Love the drumming!
This song is fantastic
Stunning track this 👌
La cancion mas grande de todos loa tiempos
One of the best live bands out there
FUCKKKKK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Thank you KEXP Thank you Ride. Missed every time you came to play twice. I mean you give no room for Error. Is'nt that right Mr. Loz greatest Drummer in history
