Honestly- I watch your podcasts purely to observe your interactions with each other. I have a young family and my girls are 4 and 6 and I try to be honest and open and as much compassionate as I can, and I am so looking forward to the next ten years and hope that we can remain as honest and pure and thick as a family as you guys are. Lots of love and THANK YOU Zarna for doing so many more things apart from your comedy, which is one of my favorites as wel!! I so love listening to you and your family!

Your honesty and vulnerability is commendable.
I am a brown mom and get zero support from my husband and children. I admire you Zarna that you have the love and devotion of your husband and children and they take pride in you and your success.

Im not sure that Shalab really supports Zarna- he does not appreciate all that Zarna has contributed emotinally to the family, especially when he was high flying and arrogant as he says when he was over spending and probably running down Zarna who wanted to be more secure financially. He is also always praising his mum who I can see that is a constant thorn especially to Zarna. Given the subtle and undercurrents I think that Shalab does not really take the whole repsonsibilty to the state the family is in- the bar is set low for Shalab. Zarna has to constantly ask for validation from her kids.

Very very refreshing to see an Indian dad admitting his mistakes and being honest about it. Kudos to Mr. Shalabh!
The situation of losing a parent’s income can be incredibly scary and stressful.
I was just 10 (I’m 31 now) when my father tragically died and I remember my mom telling me after a few years, “I was up the entire night when your dad died thinking about one thing, money and how to manage everything since you were a growing boy who may have many needs”.
On a related note, how is it that the US has so many things yet hasn’t gotten its act together to give universal healthcare to everyone? I’m not claiming that the NHS here in the UK is the best but everyone has access to healthcare!

This is one of the best conversations for sure. It takes some guts to come out and talk about difficult times in life. Especially for an Indian man to accept not having a job is a huge thing. They are conditioned to believe they have everything figured out . We have to normalise these topics too so more people are able to openly talk about their struggles too.

I have a few questions, I live in Chappaqua I came to west side just to see you, inspite of all this woe you still continue to pay their fees? I dont understand why you'll dont let them take loans, as it is the american thing to do...tomorrow if student loans are forgiven, wont u feel like a fool?
Why live in NYC ? it is a sincere question, not an arrogant one.
When I mean at what point will you and your husband feel comfortable to say we r out of this mess? I mean what does it take mortgage paid, undeegrad done ? that time u will be older and then strarts their marriage , settling down for them and the two of u dealing with age? So when does it
end? Asking as I have these thoughts maybe u have the answers?

    • @ZarnaGarg
      @ZarnaGarg  6 місяців тому +4

I'll try to answer. They are taking some loans and there are many costs involved besides just tuition as you know. We don't qualify for any aid. NONE.
We can't leave our apartment - the NYC market will have us take a blood bath if we try to sell and what little equity we have left will be gone entirely.
My husband has 25 years of experience in fiance, he is not equipped to do any other job and most finance jobs are still in the NYC area. We made many many moves to save money, including all our 3 kids graduated NYC public schools, two of them worked through the pandemic and continue to do so now even with college.
My entire comedy career is in NYC, otherwise we would be out of here -
we've done the cost analysis a million times and unfortunately for this. moment, we are stuck here

@@ZarnaGargI understand what you're saying. I am surprised to hear Shalabh has to be in NY for his work, though. What he does goes on in many states and isn't it done mostly online? NY is going down fast and as long as the same party remains in office, it will explode. I live in FL and homeowners insurance costs have suddenly increased 10 fold, people are leaving for TN or NC. KY is also a very economical place to live. I am hoping to go to TN. With prices in NY shooting up like crazy, maybe your home will increase in value fast and you could sell for more🙏🙏❤❤

At the age of 50 for the 1st time ever I was offered severance, so I took it and never looked back. A week later the company had a 40% reduction in headcount. Since June of 2023 I have applied for soooo many jobs only to receive crickets 🦗 in response. I’ve been in sales for 20 yrs and have always been a top producer. So I decided to get my license to sell health and life insurance. This podcast speaks to me 💯 I can relate to everything Shalabh is talking about. Thank you for sharing yalls life’s up and downs with all of us. I now have two kids in college. My son is studying to be an aerospace engineer and wanting to pursue a masters degree and my daughter dual major at UT Austin. And my Mexican daughter is dating a Bengali 😮 they are perfect for each other.

For willing to dissect his financial risks openly Shanab deserves an A+. It’s not often you find a man in US willing to talk of his vulnerability.
For being a solid partner to take the Family load off the breadwinner Zarna deserves an A grade.
Most families breakup when they are put in this intense stressful situation. The Gargs as a couple have been able to weather the storm and will come out stronger shows the solidity of their relationship. So as a couple they deserve an A+++

Zarna, you hit the nail on the wall. My grandmother has never discussed any financial issues with us growing up.
March 1981, our house caught on fire. My sister was 18, and I was 17 at the time, we were basically left on our own, not knowing anything on how to adjust to adults' responsibility. The first 2 years were difficult, which made me shut down towards anyone and everyone. I felt my grandmother turn her back on us where we had to fin for ourselves.
Even today, I have a trust issue.
I think consumers ed, Social studies should be brought back into the school system as early as 14 yrs old.
Parents should be more open regarding financial issues and household issues. Kids understand more than we believe they do.
Speak to them and not at. them. Life changes can occur in a drop of a dime.

    Do something spontaneous.
Your family will remember this THE MOST.
Seen so many families that always talk about this experience.
    Please🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

My A+ grade goes to Shalabh for how he defended his wife. "Even if Lord Ram came from heaven and said that your mother said not to respect me - I wouldn't believe him" ❤❤

Congrats Zarna on another fantastic podcast episode! I give an A+ to Shalabh because he admitted that he was so arrogant during what was such a stressful time and also for him to discuss how he feels he missed out on some of the kids' childhood. Also an A+ to YOU because you were on standby with all the support and the foresight that the money may run out at some point(!) but you still invested in your talented self. Loved the episode. It made your family even more real to me and realize further why I love listening to you and your family!
