I just bought the newer version NR6100 and had issues during room calibration (AccuEQ). When the calibration comes to left surround speaker it immediately shuts off the whole receiver. During speaker set up test all speakers gives sounds and receiver stays on all the time. I assume that wiring is OK as it worked with previous receiver. I should also mention problems with eARC set up. I fixed it by pulling HDMI cable out from TV, plug it to different HDMI slots and back to eARC slot again. Then running set up again.
There's so much wrong with this statement " people don't take one person's opinion, do your due diligence " you couldn't have watched this video. I clearly state in the video that it is not only my opinion but there are also reviews that say the same, numerous at that. So having reiterated that in this comment section, perhaps you should rethink your " one person's opinion before buying a tech product " statement. That's what reviews are all about. Have you ever read any? Or wrote any? There are thousands of negative reviews on this particular product but then you might know that if you did your " due diligence "😉👍
I had the same problem so i called an Crutchfield technician who help me with the setup, but no sound. They offered to change me for another reciver .Then send me an shipping label to sent it back
Hello, i only just say this video on 10/01/2024 and i know this video is a year old, so i do not know if you fixed it or moved on but here are a few points for you to consider. Firstly, the message during the initial setup that says "check your subwoofer" is just a reminder for you to check if sound is coming from the subwoofer and not that something is wrong with it. Secondly, when doing calibration, the default volume is 40 and not 55. Always do a calibration at the default volume. Thirdly, you need to press CBL.SAT then ON/Standby to reset the receiver not enter. This is in your manual. These Onkyo receivers has a hidden service menu that does different things that is triggered by button combinations on the front panel, so always make sure you follow the manual. Fourthly, you said nothing about how you connected your speakers, either banana plugs or bare wire, in either case there can be a grounding issue where the receiver won't produce sound but normally enables a "CK SPEAKER WIRE" message.
Ok. So this is a receiver/amplifier that was broken out of the box. If you really truly listened to my video you heard me say at the time that I'd been doing it for " 18 years " not days, so this wasn't my first receiver installation. Also, no matter what you have the volume set to a broken receiver is a broken receiver, no way to get around that. And the Coup de grace of this answer, Onkyo also acknowledged that this particular unit was faulty as well thus confirming many of the reviews done on this receiver/amplifier unit. As for the wire, good old fashioned speaker wire. Thanks for watching have a nice day.
@@moubear32 You sound just like me lol I'm having a issue too my subwoofer isn't working ? I've been through the whole set up twice adjust everything bought multiple cords I'm thinking it may be the Receiver...
@@jearelleno11 it is, trust me. They used to build such a quality product. The biggest problems these days are chip shortages and poor manufacturing. However. If you buy higher end receiver's you might not have the same issues, no guarantees, it is after all, technology.

I called Onkyo tech support three times yesterday and got through instantly to someone that could help with the issues. In hindsight the information that I needed should have been included with the receiver, but I have no issues with the folks at Onkyo tech support when calling from US. Your mileage may vary.
Hard to believe you are so experienced and had so much trouble? I have this model and had no issues with set up. The vents over the HDMI board were a bit warm, so I put 2 AC Infinity fans on top of the receiver. I run them on low and the receiver stays at room temp now.. Also, this unit has a usb plugin for the fans and they turn on and off with the receiver. I love this receiver! Room filling sound!
I bought mine several years ago with the intention of using the Atmos eventually. A year later i installed Height speakers and have been trying to set up the Atmos but for some unknown reason, the Atmos will not work with my Firecube. All Audio works with the Cube except for Atmos. I have programmed the receiver correctly for the 5.1.2 and have gone thru the speaker configuration and the receiver does recognize each speaker including the height speakers. When I try to play a Atmos movie, like "The Tomorrow War" what shows on my screen when I change the audio to Atmos, the screen shows its trying to put out Atmos audio but there is no sound, and the audio display on the tv is blinking off and on, over and over, but when I switch it to any other mode, the sound comes on right away?? I also have a Blueray player, and when I play a Atmos movie, "The Martian", the receiver plays Atmos!! So I figured there is something wrong with my Cube. So I ordered a Firestick 4K Max and disconnected the Cube and installed the FIrestick, and I have the exact same problem, nothing has changed. I have eliminated the Cube and the Firestick, which leaves the Onkyo receiver. Is there something I am missing in the Onkyo programming that could be causing this?? All my devices go thru my receiver, my TV(Not smart, used as a monitor), Firecube, Sony Bluray player, and my PC. I have a 1gig fiber network.
Thank you for the video. I set up my new TX-NR696 yesterday. Did not have any issues. I can go into setup and play test tones on all speakers. I did not use the AccuEQ Room Calibration, but rather made settings manually. Perhaps this is the difference. Maybe you can try a firmware update. At least so far mine is working as expected. I hope you can resolve your issue.
I think it's sad that such a poor product is anywhere on the market, I've been doing this for 18 years and haven't seen anything like it ever. A product so bad that Crutchfield had to remove it from their site. 👍
I just purchased this receiver and read this review as well as others before I even unboxed it, made me very nervous about proceeding to do that, however, my old Denon 3313 receiver does not output 4k video, it will pass-thru but downgrades video to 1080p. So I took the chance and did the unboxing and proceeded with the setup, at the first attempt I was unable to set up the speaker calibration, but there was sound. So next step was to hit the factory reset button and start all over. That solved the set up problem including calibration and everything else. So far so good, it performs beautifully and the sound processing is so much better than the Denon outputs, both music and movies sound much much better. I hope it lasts forever, I never had a receiver ever burn out, have more than half a dozen because of upgrades and they all still function. I connected the headphone jack to the input of the Denon 3313 and can record all audio through a DVD recorder, had to make a special speaker selection box to transfer all 10 speakers from one receiver to the other, and back again to the first one, using double pole double throw speaker switches and it works great. There always seems to be a defect on anything new, perhaps you hit one of them with your receiver, which is why you can return for refund or replacement.
Not at all. Even after the reset the product was defective. I now own the denon x2700 heos. 0 issues out of the box. As far as a defect with any new whatever, I don't think so. Did you hear me say in the video that I've been working with avr's almost 20 years?? So yeah, no. This was an onkyo issue, who by the way is bankrupt, so much for trying to redeem their product. I hope you get past the first year, most don't. 👍
