    Hello there, troopers!
    No silkies were harmed in the making of this video. Our chickens are bathed ( and dewormed) on a monthly basis in a bucket filled with water and a delousing shampoo for maintenance - only this time, we added violet food colour in their bathing solution to dye them violet.
    If you plan to do this to your pet chickens, make sure you are only using food-grade dyes or food colours. Anything else would not do, and may prove to be toxic to your chickens.
    For overly sensitive people, I assure you that no animal abuse or pain was caused on this video. Then again, there's really nothing I can do to stop abusive comments, so feel free to do so. Interaction on this video would get it picked up by the algorithm, anyhow. Cheers!

      h I dyed my silkie red and blue (not her entire body) and now she is getting picked on :( what should i do?

    • @luciantheprotean
      @luciantheprotean  2 роки тому

      @@eimii.adrienne Oof! Red is probably not a good colour to use. They associate the colour red with blood or injury as a natural instinct, and will peck the crap out of the red dye as a result. I would suggest for you to separate her from the flock temporarily, and maybe dye her a different colour while you're at it (because waiting for her to moult back to her original colour would take months).

    Cant wait to try this lol
    So after bathing it is ok to just let them air dry (in warm sunny summer weather of course)? New silkie owner here, we just bought them and they are in great need of baths! Everything ive found online made it seem like you have to towel them and use hairdryers. And can you bathe babies like this, both in air drying as well as dye them?

    Hi! I have silkies and I’m going to dye the. But I don’t know what color do you have any suggestions? (Except yellow or green)

    • @luciantheprotean

      A dark blue or red would be awesome. A purple darker than the one I used would be even better. Just make sure to ONLY use food colour. 😉

      I would not suggest red as the color red provoke others to attack it

      It completely depends on what type of dye you use. Although this is illegal, safe, non-toxic dyes are fine to use.

    How long does the dye stay on?

    • @luciantheprotean
      @luciantheprotean  2 роки тому

      Until they moult. So 6-12 months depending on how many times they moult in a year.

      I'm not too familiar with Astrid's work, although a quick Google search told me that she was an esteemed Swedish author of children's books. Anyhow, thanks gor watching!

    What kind of dye did you use? Was it food dye?

    • @luciantheprotean
      @luciantheprotean  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Yup, food dye is the only way to go to ensure your silkies are safe. Either food-grade dye, or leave your silkies alone. 😂
