Props for reviewing a base model, that's very rare, not everyone can get the high end trim, saying that I was set to buy a preferred model but decided to get a premium CX-30 instead, I wasn't liking the blue accented interior and looking at what the premium offered for a little more was worth it, heads up display real leather seats and Bose stereo, plus I negotiated a very good price, love the vehicle great bang for the buck in my opinion.
Glad to see a review on a base model! I just bought a 2024 CX-30 S AWD model, and loving everything about it! the thing most buyers don't know is that higher trim models will require more maintenance cost, and also costlier future repairs years down the road.
Thank you for this review. So rare to see people reviewing the base model of any car which is unfortunate. I'm one of those people who doesn't want all those extra features and instead just need a good reliable car that is nice to drive. Doesn't have to be fancy and filled with extras I'm just going to turn off anyway. I have a base CX-30 on order and I'm really looking forward to it!
Loved the review! The different angles from the outside, being simple and to the point, just the review i was looking for! Thank you for also reviewing the base model, most ppl almost always review the top trims. Stay well! :)
I agree. The cladding makes it look cheap and is a bit much. I wish they would allow an option to have it body color at no extra charge! On the interior, I wouldn't mind seeing an option for a blue interior (fully color-keyed, no black parts). It would be refreshing to have an interior color choice outside of black, gray, or tan. It's just a coloring and with JIT inventory, I don't see it has being a big cost for the manufacturer. Nice review.
Recently purchased one of theses 2021 Mazda CX30 S used with less than 12,000 Miles. It was not on the top of my list when I started shopping. When I was out test driving - I was focused on some type of GM products but also tried many others from Chevy, Buick, Nissan, Kia, Toyota and Hyundai. I test drove the other smaller CUV/SUV's and was nicely surprised on the overall quality, ride, handling and interior dimensions of the CX30. Also, the non-turbo 2.5L 4 cylinder worked better than some other competitors turbos. Then it has the 6 speed transmission, not a CVT (not a fan of CVT's). I was shocked that I made the deal and purchased the CX30! Now I am getting between 35 - 37 mpg on the highway for short trips and over 30 combined city and highway around town. That gives me easily over 400 miles on every tank of regular gas! This vehicle checked many of the "boxes" and stood out as compared to the competition - do not hesitate to test drive and get one for yourself.
Unfortunately, as of 2023 all the CX-30's have that dreaded cylinder deactivation feature, which is a serious concern for anyone hoping to get many years out of their car.
After 6 months of having Mazda CX-30 2.5 select AWD soul red, here are problems that I have: Paint is very weak, it easily flaking and with a small strike it fails deeply. Adaptive cruise control is not working properly and most times it won't stop the car when cars in front slows down suddenly. Windows sometimes don't work properly. Settings resets by itself sometimes and you should adjust some things again. None touch screen is a pain in the neck, you should play a lot with buttons to choose something. No good view for seeing around.
I like the blue over the brown. Will seriously consider the turbo CX-30 when my CX-5 lease is up. And this video is CLEAR. 60p! And I believe the preferred loses the Bose but gets the moonroof for the 2021.
Yes, I wish I had the turbo model available for this review. Oh, I knew it got the moonroof (that's in the video) but I didn't hear that they took away the bose, I just checked again to confirm it and I will remove that part of the video. This was a challenging video as mazda's website didn't have much of anything on it about the 2021! Thanks for the feedback.
Excellent review. You are the only person I found so far to do a base model. I'm an old Mazda lover since my 94 b2300 pick up. Mama wants a new car so this on the list.
I got the Mazda CX-30 2.5 S in the Deep Blue Mica color and I love it. Even the cladding looks cool with this color. Though I have to admit that with the other color choices it looks a bit too pronounced. I actually bought this car because I could not get my first choice which was the CHR by Toyota, but in hindsight I am so glad I got the Mazda instead. It's much nicer! And it's AWD. The Mica Blue by the way is so incredible! The car looks black until it is in the sun, and then the blue sparkles!
@@basemodelonly1340 I don't notice any blind spots. But you would need to test drive one to see how you feel about it. I never buy a car without a test drive.
I loved the Mazda 3, but I needed to be able to get the family on holiday with me, so I got the CX-30 for its bigger trunk and taller windows. In Europe taxes on gas and big engines are huge, thus I chose the 2 liters Skyactiv G (+Mild-hybrid). Thankfully I could buy the manual drive to still have fun with it.
I agree with the commentary about the lack of a manual transmission. I had one of these as a loaner for a week and it was a real dog on the freeway. The engine was buried under the bureaucratic machinations of the automatic transmission. When accelerating at freeway speeds you have to wait for the kick down for several seconds. Thus, you must plan ahead when taking on a car and changing lanes. It was a real pain in the ass. I will replace my older Mazda 3 with another Mazda 3 MT hatchback (as long as they keep the MT in this car). The gas milage also sucks. I got 26 mpg and I drive like a nun.
When discussing interior room, especially rear leg and headroom, it would be helpful to know the reviewers height (this reviewer appears to be very tall). One observation about this CX30: it sounds *much* quieter when accelerating than the Crosstrek. Mazda may not offer a manual transmission, but its well-designed 6-speed automatic is hugely better than the CVT used by Subaru to increase fuel economy.
6:36 good observation, I am tall, but I also did say I was 6 ft 3? Yes, it is quite refined for the class! The crosstrek isn't bad either if you don't mind the Subaru growl.
I really wish that blind spot monitoring came standard on the base..(or even available as a option) I'm back and forth on the base and the select.. (only for the bsm) I don't care for the leatherette or 18" wheels
@Red I am hoping they add it in next year.. They added android/apple car for 2021 for the base (was not available on 2020 base) . Last thing for me would be to switch out the vinyl steering wheel for a leather one. That would be later down the road when more Mazda3 and cx30s are crashed up
The backseat is more like that of a Mustang or Camaro, thus built for two, IMO. My concern about the car is that of the cylinder deactivation (2024), and the 6 speed transmission getting confused. And battery issues? What is that mat atop the dashboard -- for style? Any rattles?
