  • In part two of this two-part series, I'm venturing west on the Isle of Man Steam Railway from Douglas to the lovely Port Erin. I'll tell you about the history of this railway and other lines that used to exist. We'll have a look at the carriages both inside and out, plus the locomotive and some of the stations along the way.
    I hope you enjoy this trip on the steam train, I did and as always guys, thanks very much for taking the time to watch my content. It's really appreciated.
    Cheers for now.

    There's a bloke on the Manx Radio on a Saturday morning called Chris Williams, he plays 1960s oldies and he gives away tickets for themed railway trips on IOM Railways, just listening to his heavily themed promotional dialogue in between Dusty Springfield and the Animals is just like being there on those magical trains. But for me the engine shed at 'Oily' is good enough!!!

    Brings back great memories.. Was such a busy place in the 70s. They should really try to open up these lines that were closed down.. Must go back soon. Thanks for video

    Wonderful! And we are so lucky to still be able to experience travel like this. Without foresight and dedication from some incredible people, this would be nothing more than a memory. A massive shout out to all those who keep the trains running, and to you for taking us along :)

      Great words Steve and I totally agree, we wouldn’t have anything much at all if it wasn’t for the dedication and enthusiasm of many volunteers both then and now. The Talyllyn railway in Wales (and many others in that part of the world) being a great example of that 👍

    Thank you for this excellent coverage. We travelled in the opposite direction last week, the same loco. You have captured the essence of the line very well.

    Thanks for the travelcard advice. For a family over 7 days, that's a bargain!
    Isle of Man is definitely a place among many others I want to bring my family to.
    Wales has some wonderful heritage lines.
    Thanks for taking us along, the bucket list continues to grow. Cheers.

    Bringing back many memories of over 31 years ago. Our School trip stayed in a hotel on the front in Port Erin and we travelled on the steam railway as part of the trip. Great to see it still running. In the background of where you were at the beach is Bradda Head which is where we went on pre breakfast walks from the hotel.

      I remember reading something about the hotels there, they were used in the war as internment camps (or something like that). Fascinating place Port Erin.

    I really enjoy your content! This is no exception! I'll never understand the youtube algorithm, or why you don't have more subscribers!

      Cheers Lenee, thanks for the kind words. UA-cam algorithms well I don’t profess to know much about them tbh (who does) but hopefully the subs will grow a bit. 10k target not far off. I try to film what I would like to watch myself, though the bus videos in-particular do really well. 😊👍

    A very nice heritage railway. The red brick station looks very nice. I've never seen carriages where each compartment has it's own doors!
    Would love to experience this railway one day, indeed.
    All the best in 2023! Cheers from Toronto!

    Great video, Mark! A well maintained railway with its nice station buildings, signal boxes and semaphores. And it offers magnificent views of the sea. Perhaps it's good to go one way by train and the other by bus as they take you along different places. All the best for 2023. Dirk

      @LetsMakeaTrip  Рік тому

      Hi Dirk, thanks and a happy new year to you too! I did take the bus quite a bit on the Isle of Man as it’s all included in the pass (and quite extensive). Couldn’t resist another train ride though I must confess 😊

    A family holiday in 1957 was our introduction to the IoM and its lovely railway. Wonderful place then and, I hope, now. Living in Liverpool made the ferry trip easy, and very reasonable cost. On the ship, I remember a seagull swooped my sandwich out of my hand as I ate - bit much for a six year old! My Dad said the whole holiday had cost £70 for all of us, memories included! Thanks, IoM.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  Рік тому

      Yes in those days then the older lines would’ve still been in operation. And the ships have changed a bit, well the one I went back on. I’ll pop a video of that on next week - that was pretty rough tbh!

    A wonderful steam railway, which I definitely should visit (I lastly rode on a steam train back in September on the East Lancashiren Railway Line).
    Sad that as many older railways, even this one was partially affected by urbanisation.
    Anyway, wish you all the best for the new year and what it will bring about

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  Рік тому +1

      Cheers Enrico and the same to you mate! I haven’t been on the East Lancs but the Welsh narrow gauge lines are great and there’s plenty of them to do too! Worth a trip?

      @enricomonti156 Рік тому +1

      @Let’s Make a Trip! absolutely. I visited the East Lancashire Railway back in September 2022 and you can get a day rover ticket for just £16.50 (that's what I remember being charged) and cover the line between Heywood and Rawtenstall and visit the Bury Transport Museum.
      Definitely worth a trip to say the least
