That looks nice. Maybe it was the overhead camera angle but the area with the forearm contour didn’t seem to take too much colour whereas the bottom half of the guitar seemed to take the colour well
Thanks bud, yeah I had issues with the exposure on the overhead camera for some reason so I think it's just that! I went back after this video and lightly sanded it then put on another coat of purple over the whole top and it looks great now imo 🙂
If you use wood conditioner before adding dye you’ll get results without the blotches. Also simple wipe down your guitar with a damp rang to moisten the wood before adding color as it will give you much smoother fades.
Love watching and doing dyes myself…. On suggestion don’t put the dye on the rag while overtop of the guitar. One small drop can bugger up the guitar. Great work!
Thank you bud!! I have made that mistake and continue to do it 🤣 you'll see if you watch more of my videos because I'm too clumsy for it to have been my last
Watching this... I've gotta tell you. Magic marker Ink works so much quicker and better. I buy dollar store highlighter markers. Florescent... Day-glo.. especially the Blue. Plyers. Pull the bottom cap out. Tap the inner sleeve out that's filled with gauze .. full of ink.. I slice down one side. And grip the sleeve. Smearing the ink gauze along wood. One big sharpie highlighter blue. And then Sand it back. Then maybe a regular dark blue to pull in more of the grain.....(but. I spray lacquer clear.. which always deepens the color in the end. So ..a light finish is best.. then another marker full on the face of body. Sand lightly. Making sure all the raised wood grain is knocked down smooth... If it looks too light... Try a test scrap (if possible. . On this build. Under the pick guard area works. Because it's going to be covered). Wait a day. That's close enough to Your finished product. Look at my guitar (s) and see .. or even my playlist for builds. I useally use three markers. And not even a second color. Although I do have a purple center on one....
Very interesting! The main reason I like water based stains or dyes is because it raises the grain while you dye which you can then sand down and repeat for a really smooth finish - I know you can do that with just water beforehand anyway but I like doing it all at once. I'll definitely give your magic markers idea a try at some point though, thank you!
@@Giant_Guitars especially if you can get dollar store highlighter magic marker set for $2.00 for 5 colors. So. If it's one of those colors in you want. Buy two sets. (Two markers could do most guitar tops..) however. Blue is my favorite Color. And they have done away with blue in two of the Three dollar stores. (Dollar general still has a blue highlighter in it's set of five). But I found 4 blue highlighter sharpies on Amazon for $6.00 that's a great deal. And compared to the ones like you used. The depth of color is like 4×s as strong... So. Two coats even Sanding between the one. Is plenty. I think I used Three. And that's on a ML sized body. And Dean V style headstock. That's a lot of real estate to cover. Like an explorer to size comparison
@@D.Guitar well I'm in Northern Ireland so we don't quite have the US style magic markers but I'm sure there's something similar I can get a hold off here!
That is what I usually do if you check my other stuff or on IG before I started UA-cam but in the beginning of this channel I was totally rushing for content and skipped that important step 🙏 but you're totally right

Yeah we made all kinds of minor errors when we started. Was just passing along some knowledge. Love what I’ve seen so far! Keep it up!🤘🤘🤘

Thanks I'll be sure to try that out!
Wood conditioner? Like a grain fill?
That is so cool I would love to do that to a les Paul shaped body
It’s just so expensive to have a hobby like that when you live on an island 😅😅
Ha fair enough mate! And yes would look sick on a LP

Next time do black on the whole thing and sand it down. Then do color.

Wow!! Not gonna lie the color is actually fre*kin' awesome ❤❤️🤘
I would love how to do guitar finishes 😍
I'll do more for sure! I'm still learning though 😂 so they might be more instructional for me than any viewer
Yes, thats the good stuff
Thanks and I'm glad you liked it!
First things first....Where are your blue nitrile gloves??? Your fingers and hands will thank you....
