    A good example for what to do is the necromancer, when it spawns skeletons that could make the towers attack them, allowing the necromancer to spawn more skeletons, while if you had the mortar it would easily take care of the skeletons, making it easier for your other towers to deal with it, this has made me lose lots of times and necromancers make me think to bring something like a mortar, which the traditional wave structure doesn’t do

      Interesting example, but the worst moment with necromancers is wave 25, when they are spawning in amount 4, and maybe wave 19. But that's it, that's all the problems with negromancers

    i remember the time when shields were introduced along with the templar and the only way to combat them was either high fire rates or explosions which bypassed the shield which made towers such as pursuit and rocketeer to pretty much be an essential part of a loadout if you wanted to kill the templar quickly for things such as hidden wave

    This video clears a lot of things up for me and has a lot of agreeable points. My friend and I have been looking for new games to play and finally came back to roblox after a year or so and were immediately attracted to the Polluted Wastelands and Pizza Party levels because of the challenge it gave us VS the standard maps.
    This is really something because we are VERY PICKY with games and will game hop often, the fact that we were given something to think about and strategize gave us motivation to continue playing, we couldn’t walk away knowing “I couldn’t beat this” our pride wouldn’t let us!
    I’m saying all this to say, YES, TDS definitely needs to provide these changes to mortar and rework the mobs because without the alternative levels we would have probably stayed away from this game too. 😅
    Nonetheless, this video was well spoken and informative, you’ve just earned yourself another subscriber. 🎉

    I think mortar falls into the kind of tower you use "for fun"
    Like why would you use g crook boss if other golden towers are better?
    Because golden crook boss is fun to use.
    Mortar is fun because you see it shred armies of breakers.
    Mortar is not the kind of towers you bring solo,the best way to use them is just go into a random match,people will already have things such as accels and engis to really defend,while you can just have fun with your mortar.

    The mortar worked in all 3 updates, with imo the strongest in the first rework. If you make a loadout around having high crowd control (ie: ranger or rocketeer), it can work really well.

      @@0skillgamer I meant like towers that work better when you already have high crowd control because I don't see rocketeer as a good splash tower. It's more of a middle between ranger and sniper, with a bit of aoe as a treat.

    Gold crook boss has been nerfed 16 times in the span of frost invasion to this update so mortar is nothing compared to it.
    Edit: didnt think this would get more than 10 likes so i am gonna list all 16 nerfs and the few buffs. Crook boss recently got changed so a few nerfs coming right up!
    1. Gold crook boss limit decreased from 6-4
    2. Gold crook boss can only spawn 1 unit
    3. Gold crook boss spawn delay for 2 seconds due to military bug
    4. Gold crook boss units changed from gold crooks and mafias to gold body guards (trash)
    5. Gold crook boss price increased on level 1 (300 to 400)
    6. Gold crook boss price increased on level 2 (800 to 1000)
    7. Gold crook boss price increased on level 3 (1500 to 2000)
    8. Gold crook boss minions can no longer be buffed by dj (bruh)
    9. Gold body guards are still effected by ROF bug
    10. Gold crook boss guards lost their spawn delay but another bug came in which made the spawn timer run even when gold crook boss spawned its max units
    11. Gold crook boss spawn timer resets every time you upgrade it
    12. Gold crook boss units animations broken causing to to stop and then shoot instead of just shooting
    13. Gold crook boss units speed reduced 1 day after the gold body guards were added
    14. Gold crook boss limited changed back to 4
    15. Gold crook boss minions limit reduced from infinite to 6
    16. Due to new ui changed the timer runs after the max unit limit is spawned instead of staying at 0 (same as violent night spawn ui)
    17. Crook boss can spawn 1 unit (levels 1-2)
    18. Crook boss can spawn 2 units on level 3
    19. Max crook boss dps decreased on max 72-62
    20. Crook boss can only spawn 3 units on max level
    1. BUFF gold crook boss spawns can now spawn infinitely (changed 1 week later)
    2. BUFF gold crook boss can now spawn 6 units instead of 3
    3. BUFF gold crook boss units can be buffed by dj (changed 9 months later)
    4. BUFF Crook boss costs 450 to place (not gold)
    5. Dps increased on all levels. (Not gold)
    6. Body guards spawn much faster and cost decreased on max. 9000-8100

    Maybe the devs could add like a nuclear effect at level 4+ and slows enemies down and make them take extra damage like super brittle from btd6, that way it could be used as crowd control and a way to support your heavy dps towers?

    another point is that ace pilot (an easier to get tower) could replace mortar as it has crowd control and can do single target damage so if you want a mortar to use in a slot you could use an ace

    A really good example would be the badlands 2 breaker spam where the breaker4's are enough to overrun your accel spam

    A good way to make explosion/aoe based towers have an actual purpose is that there's enemies that has multiple phases yet has low hp, if your single targets are too preoqupied with the enemies with multi-phases, its gonna make the aoes have a much better purpose.

    Tds definitely needs to change the amount of enemies coming every wave, that way other towers will be able to do better than others, but I wouldn't just change that, I'd also add some new enemies to normal game modes like lead and flying enemies so that other towers who can damage them like mortar will find more time to be used

    hopefully we see this new concept in a big update such as solar eclipse 2. Also we can see that badlands 2 is a perfect example of what you said. Sure, there are a lot of breakers but usually the plan is get enough max accels and minis and you'll be fine

    In btd6 the paths intersect sometimes so if some easy maps had intersecting paths it could make the mortar more effective.

    Thanks for the video. We've been missing you. ;-) Totally agree about the GCB vs Farm. Which in my opinion is an insult the players. Anyone can get farm. It's cheap and easy to get. But GCB requires at least $50K coin and you have to win Badlands. So it's really hard to get in comparison. My gripe is also extends to the Executioner. Another very hard to get tower with limited usefulness. I love it, but it seems weak considering how hard it is to get.

    Yea I agree I think the should take more insperation from Bloons like adding lead or flying zombies do default gamemode s so your loadout can be more diverse in damage. They can even creat their own special properties.

    -makes vid about mortar
    -barely uses mortar in the vid
    -only uses mortar at the times its not worth using instead of looking at when it is worth (pzp and bl2 both have strong hordes that mortar clears effectively)
    -does this showcase in molten mode (anything would be enough to defend hordes in molten even sniper is strong enough)
    -also didn't even mention how godly 3/21 mortar was because 40 splash size
    anyways I agree with the point you're making tds is way too focused on single target

    IDEA mortar has a passive ability called “Shell shock” when enemies get hit they are stunned for 1 second and slowed for 10, good idea or not?

    Mortar is really good in pizza party because of the amount of breakers, and hordes to the point that even accel can barley handle it without a few max commanders

    I think they should add a horde targetting option for splash damage towers such as mortar, rocketeer, maxed commando, and paintballer that causes it to target clusters of enemys, that would probably help it do what it does quite better, and paintballer would be somewhat good for once with a buff like that

    You make a really good point here in this video. I think maybe accelerator and engineer were rebalanced for a good reason and towers like rocketeer and mortar got buffed so the devs can encourage people to use other towers in their loadout.

      There is really good point in this video then why did I find proof that this isn't good evidence like it all you want me to tell you okay it's way less expensive to use mortar then minigunners and he's example earlier mini gunners and the last upgrade he needed to get rid of the breakers was $9,000 more than what you would need for the mortar and the upgrades you need to defend against a bunch of breakers so where's the point and that's the last upgrade of the minigunner only which is more expensive than the mortars and price with how it would cost to get enough upgrades to defend against a bunch of breakers and she was using mini gunners and mortars against breakers and he had to get a $9,000 upgrade it to defend against AND ALSO JUST READ THE ENTIRE OKAY THEN YOU GET MY POINT DO IT!

    This chunk of text is about my spitball on how different enemies could be implemented to encourage the use of towers like the mortar and rockater.
    What about a concept on horde enemies, that negates a set amount of damage, not a percentage, like changing the purple breakers shield from 35% to 6-10 damage, meaning that individual damage like the mini gunner, whose damage only really caps at 4, negates damage done to the enemies.
    Then the breakers from the original purple breakers could have an effect where they negate 4-6, then 2-4 and 1-2, This would encourage higher damage, slower fireate playthrough, which is ideal for the mortar and rocketer tower, and even the Demoman at a high level, and the idea of breakers would encourage higher damage, slower fireate, and splash damage, as individual damage in large bursts best highlighted by rangers, would fail to counter the multiplication of breakers after they die.
    It's like the crystal enemy's from tower blitz, to integrate this idea into Normal, Molten and Fallen would drastically change the meta, because this would completely negate mini gunner as an all-round tower, which is prized for its versatility, and is arguably the sole reason why it's so popular with mid-level players before they can obtain accelerator. To introduce a less radical concept that would be better suited towards a general balance of individual DPS towers, breakers could have the ability to only be damaged by certain attacks, such as the lead zombies from hardcore mode, whereas they can only be damaged by fire, explosions and attacks, but negate bullets. This idea would not be effective in balancing towers like engineer, or accelerator, but would give more utility to players around the lvl 75 range.
    A change that could be made to fix this issue would be to raise the amount of damage the breakers can take without taking damage, but this would ultimately lead to an overpowered enemy, therefore the same concept could be applied to zombies with very low base HP health.
    e.g a medium-moving, small tower with low levels of HP, but can only be damaged by a certain amount of damage that is over a set amount, imagine a tankeir zombie, a normal green one from Molten mode, with a HP of 10, that has a 15 damage block, meaning that only towers that do 15 damage per individual hit can damage the tower. (complete hypothetical). or maybe after that amount of damage is enforced on the zombie, (15 damage) the level drops down 1, of course appling until the damage block is lower than the damage being delt per individual hit, meaning the hypothetical health would span out for individual target towers making then deal with more health, while towers such as the mortar or rocketer would have less hypothetical health to damage.

      The game doesn't need such big changes, only increased and decreased dmg against enemies with defense, in a way that mini can only do 1 dmg to breakers defense, and increased dmg against defense on some towers like ranger, splash dmg towers don't really need extra dmg against defense since they alr ignore it.

    Adding on to this, what is the hardest challenge in every major mode? The final boss, a high health, singular enemy that has a lot if attacks that punish killing them slowly. The game needs more difficulty spikes land in general needs to be more difficult. The only mode that the final boss isn't a massive difficulty spike on is probably pizza party, and second fallen. When you know the hardest bit of the mode is a high health singular enemy, this greatly discourages the use of the mortar as it won't help out at THE HARDEST PART OF THE MODE. I think the difficulty of most of the bosses is fine, jt is just the mode leading up to the boss that needs buffing.

    This video is a hot take man. Mortar is just fine as it is, no tower needs buffed anymore (maybe except for crook boss), the zombies just need to be harder. The thing is, the player base if made of kids, kids arnt that smart, and would say the game is too hard and quit. Adding strategy would be nice none the less but calling mortar useless is… hurtful… it’s not useless it’s just there’s other ways you could do it. Maybe if they add a new game mode idk, it is what it is. And this video sounds like it’s VERY WELL trying to dis mortar but mortar is really good and I know it’s just the harsh reality. But, it does exceptionally well on things that single target things struggle with but can pass. That’s enough for me

    Being an "unnecesary overdefender" could also somewhat be of use in Hardcore, where you'll need the strongest towers you could muster which Mortar will apparently fare well with.

    one thing they should do with the mortar is give it the ability to fire a gun so whenever he is reloading he has a pistol in the other hand with 1.5 firerate and 10 damage it would be so much more valued and maybe raise the spawn limit up to 5

    well mortar is still cheaper and does more damage then most towers other then ranger at max lv but it also has clusters which altho arn,t very accurate still do a decent amount of damage

    And then people would complain that they should nerf breakers because its to hard. But this would make the towers like rocketeer useful and would make the engineer wayyy above accels terms of usefulness so it would be a pretty good balance and basically rework a lot of towers simply by adding more of those purple breakers in every mode

    I think the reason why is that the devs are not game level designers. i can see the pattern like crowd zombies have low hp in each zombie and still mini gunner can beat it. If they want to make every turret useful, they have to make enemies more tricky to kill with single attacker like mini gunner which I doubt they would do. Consider they use cookie cutter for event. The devs trying to be not lazy ( impossible )

    about the enemies part:
    true, but there are still a few problems with it:
    -pursuit would literally be meta
    -harder for people belo lvl 75. its molten, after all

    Actually, there already is (sort of) a round 63 competitor for tds
    When void reaver slams like 40 towers at once with his sword he can spawn like 40 souls all in one clump which like 20 max minigunners would definitely struggle but can easily be dealt with 2 max rocketeers
    I think another suggestion I could think of is increase the amount of towers u can equip in game so like let's say u can have 6 tower slots by like lvl 50 and 7 by idk lvl 150? This also makes more players wanna grind the game more which brings more players to the game.

      @@heyoudodobird well yeah it does make the game easier which does make players leave the game a bit earlier
      it still makes new players wanna grind more though, just makes the more mid-pro players quit the game earlier, and since 90% of tds players are below lvl 15 I still think tds player base will increase just very small like 5%

    just make the mortal shoot several projectiles instead of one on the late levels
    so this makes it kinda good at early game (no, but i mean... hordes..?), but it also makes it n alright defense in a late game where u have much longer lines of enemies and more hordes overall

    In bt6 the middle mad path for dart gunner is good for damage but bad for clusters but it’s still a bomb shooting tower maybe mortar in tds can do something similar with mortar

    Mortar is cliff tower which is perfect against the hardcore mode that you're gonna face and you cant have mortar before getting 75lvls meaning mortar is NOT a useless tower

      Yes, im from the future, and mortar is *required* for phase 2 and 3 in krampus revenge because there is enemy spam and flying enemies

    for the new event is kind of what he is talking about how the mortar need more of a reason to be used not just to be used for fun where it is needed due to the amount of enemy's there are during the later waves of the event that makes for the need for the mortar which is why most strats use the mortar it is essential to the plan if you want to win it helps against the crying angel and sleigh enemy's but most importantly the hordes that keep coming especially when Krampus the boss for the tds 2023 winter event summons and most of your dps towers like accel who lock on one enemy and stay on it till they die can shoot their missiles towards them and if they are at level 4 or maxed they drop extra bombs that do area damage not just single target which is why they are so helpful during the event but then again this event is only temporary not permanent so it's not the solution but a temporary fix.

    I think they should just make an update base on rebalancing the waves. Cuz rn is just mainly spamming slow bosses or fallens / moltens. I hope that they make more varieties to make the game actually challenging.

    I think to make the Mortar better is when is a single enemy in his range he use a pistol that does 1 damage after 2 seconds. In level max he does 5 damage in 0.5 seconds. For me i think will make better Mortar!

    Ngl though the mortar rebalance with the cluster on max level was wild, we defeated the fallen king with mortars and a few ground towers

    The problem is that top towers attack so fast that there isnt no point for crowd control unless spawn 200enemies with 1hp and that doesnt happend

    In my opinion minigunner is WAY to overpowered, level 1 is 2,500 for 10 dps, then level 3 is 8,600 for 40 dps, mortar would be ok if they nerfed single target like Minigunner

    The devs should seriously rework all 3 gamemodes because it’s getting boring playing the exact same wave structure again. Or maybe they should add modifiers that you can equip or unequip for increased rewards and challenges.

    while i do agree with you for the most part elite making the mortar useful would make the game significantly harder in solo as like you state it takes up a tower slot so for instance if the mortar's only use was to beat a few rounds but was 100% needed to win then you would practically only have 4 tower slots (3 if you brought farm). Btd6 doesnt have this issue as im sure your aware of you have infinite tower slots and placement limits excluding t5s and paragons. So while your btd6 analogy isnt totally accurate you do bring up good points overall.

    mortar is good at max when u even place dj and commander can do alot even helpfull for pizzaparty but when hidden come its alot of weakness

    if you combine mortar and minigunner it helps you to grind fast in 16 minutes you can get 500 its too good

    My speedrunning instincts were hurting me while watching the video, and it makes it more sense bringing mortar to defend early waves to make the game go faster. Makes getting golden crate faster

    I just think they could've just increased the base cost to, say, 600, increase some upgrade prices (except max level) give some more radius and maybe 2 cluster bombs 1 cluster bomb at level 3 and 2 at 5
