It feels like everytime I think that’s all that’s left to see there’s still more things from the show we haven’t seen yet as well as the real life events that inspire it is mind blowing
Mad Cath was pivotal in the Japanese victory in conquering Indonesia, yet unfortunately she was unable to secure their victory for long, since y'know shes in a mobility scooter, which makes it hard when you're fighting in archipelago.
As someone who also is a naval buff Mikasa is among my favorite battleships and the old reliable IJN Kongo the last british-built warship to be ordered by Japan. Now Barrow-in-Furness still takes part in naval shipbuilding primarily focus on building Nuclear-powered submarines such as the Astute-class SSN and is currently working on the Dreadnought-class strategic ballistic missile submarines and in the future sucessor to the Astute-class SSN(R)
Please visit our Dock Museum, it has a model of Mikasa and others. There are also a few in Furness General Hospital as well. The Museum is really worth a visit. I am Barrow born and bred.
Awdrey actually based the settlements on parts of his life. The mainline is a combination of parish towns he was a part of like Elsbridge and Wellsworth taken from Elsworth. Henry's tunnel is based on Box where he grew up where a banker pushed goods engines up a hill. So Vicarstown is actually the name given later on in the series to the big station first mentioned in Thomas the Tank Engine. The name derives from one of the authors occupations which was loosely based off the fact a similar place existed on an isle west of Barrow which in itself inspired where Sodor existed. Of course by comparison the island is a lot different. Other railways just to note like The Skarloey, Peel Godred and Culdee Fell were given Welsh inspiration from his fascination for narrow gauge railways and voluntary work.

Rev. W Awdry did write the books for his two nieces, Annie and Clarabelle, (yes Thomas's carriages names) basing Sodor on Walney island.
I heard that a lot of the characters were named after members of his family.
@@ciarangleeson2880wnd gordon was named after one of Gordon's bossy friends
I love how he connects thomas to japan
no wonder they love the hell out of the show (even into the reboot)
I have lived in Barrow all my life and i never knew this connection to Japan we have

Many of the streets around Mikasa Street are named for ships launched around that time period. Mikasa I think is the only Japanese one.

There’s actually a town in Ireland called Vicarstown. I don’t live there, but it’s an hour’s drive at the most from my house.
I like you you should have a 10 million subs
