    So, I’ve watched hours and hours of different people talk about their livestream mix from an X-32, and I keep coming back to your playlist. I’m still pretty new to the mixing world, but I’m a professional musician and have done lots of research. Your way makes the most sense to me.
    My situation is a Traditional Worship Service with organ, grand piano, choir overheads, and pulpit and handheld mics that are sometimes talking and sometimes singing.
    Could you possibly make a video that would give a basic scene setup on an X-32 for a Traditional setup with suggestions for DCA, bus, and matrix mixes, EQ, effects, compression, how to mic the piano and organ, etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks for reaching out. I have done a bunch of work with more traditional churches in my area and I should have some tracks I can use to go through setting up a scene. It is a slightly different setup since you typically don’t need to mix the piano for the house sound. Also, organ type plays a big part in how you capture this sound (natural pipes vs electronic coming out of speakers). In the end you want to treat this like a recording studio environment where everything has to be mic’d to be heard in the stream. I also use the multitrack recording option to provide the ability to isolate your mics and sounds once a rehearsal has finished and you can then build your stream mix with no influence from the natural instruments.
      I’ll see what I can do about getting tracks and building a scene that I can share in a video.

      @@AllamHouse Thanks for your quick response! Our organ is electronic, with multiple speakers located behind our main screens, in an “attic” 10-12 feet above the stage. The organ also has an audio out that could theoretically be routed into the sound system, if a combination of that plus the ambient sound coming from the speakers would be beneficial.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  Рік тому

      I would be interested in seeing with this organ audio output sounds like. If possible, I would record it and check it for frequency response and overall sound. This could be an easy way to capture the organ and then add it to a reverb or use ambient mics to add some room sound.

    Thanks so much for your videos, spent the afternoon getting my busses and matrices configured, after watching the videos two or three times it all starts to make sense!
    Now, the question, any suggestions on limiting and compressing for AM radio transmission? The church purchased a low power (legal) AM radio transmitter, but it sounds pretty terrible, some clipping and I think I need to just pull some frequencies out to help improve clarity. I’m following your pattern where I have a post fader mix bus running into different matrices for output to video streaming, exterior secondary speakers and the AM transmitter.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 роки тому

      I have helped churches use FM transmitters for their streams, but never AM. I believe AM runs in mono and has a much smaller bandwidth of frequencies that can be pushed for transmission. The video you commented on speaks to running a limiter, but you might need to send whatever stream mix you built (on stereo MixBUS) to a single matrix which will sum it down to mono. Then you could EQ according to your AM needs, add more compression and a specific limiter for this transmission. If it were me, I would multitrack record my group and then use those tracks to do some testing to get it all dialed in for your setup.

    Dave, thank you for your video series. I have some of these techniques I am using on my dLive, but I see thru this series, I need to make some improvements, especially in the utilization of the Limiter on the Matrix. Here is my question: you mentioned that you currently are not using room mics, but when you do, where would you insert those? Would you put them into the Live Stream Mix Bus...or....would you create another mix bus for the room mics and put them into the Live Stream Matrix? Thanks in advance.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому +1

      I would treat these like other mics and out them into the Livestream MixBUS. I would de-select my Main LR Bus so they are bot heard in the house, but I would add them in just like a standard mic.

    Thank you very much for the series! We just purchased the M32 and are trying the get our system setup and going. At the end of this video you mention that you are simply using XLR out to your video switcher. Can you tell me what switcher you are using? We would like to use USB but our computer is not producing the sound. Curious if your setup would work for us. Thank again.

      So, we have the ATEM TV Studio HD which has XLR inputs where we connect our audio from the board. I do have other videos that discuss running audio across USB to a streaming device. I have listed that below in case it is helpful.
      ua-cam.com/video/Vx4HjArTeZI/v-deo.html
      If that doesn’t help you get it running it is probably a security setting on the computer or you might need the X-USB driver (if you are on a Windows machine. This video discusses the security features to look at.

    I am trying to understand the statement at about 58 seconds into the video where you said you built a mix (on stereo bus 11 and 12) based on the faders in the room. Do you mean that you did Sends on Fader on Bus 11 and approximated the position of the room fader? Your statement makes it sound like there is some automated way to build a new mix that mirrors the FOH.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 роки тому

      I am running a Post Fader MixBUS for my live stream. This means that The faders for my FOH mix will impact the stream, but the stream has a different ratio (mix) setup. Here are two videos that discuss some of the details that can cover this in different levels of detail for you.

    Question: how to add Waves (MultiRack) if I am using MixBus

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому

      Waves Multirack opens up a large list of possibilities. If you are running it on a server I would just run the Multirack as plugins on each channel and then use the MixBUS just the same for your stream. You would have the benefit of Multirack for both your stream and your FOH mix. You also have the benefit of running your MixBUS back out to Multirack for further processing before going to your stream. You can use the X-USB to handle this, but most people run a MADI card or the DANTE card.

    • @SC-nw8zr
      @SC-nw8zr 3 роки тому

      @@AllamHouseThanks for the answer, unfortunately these cards are very expensive in my country ... I hope one day you will be encouraged to do the Waves Multirack and x32 tutorial. blessings.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, the cards become expensive. If you only plan to run these plugins for your livestream (and bot FOH) you can use them in a DAW and have your stream mix built in the DAW using the desired Waves plugins. This is a common setup and this video below discusses the full setup. If you don’t have a MADI or Dante card and you try to run Multirack on your FOH you will have latency added and it will potentially sound unnatural.

      Select the MixBUS, de-select the Stereo LR Bus (not orange) which is located to the left of the screen. This will allow the MixBUS to be active and not go to your main mix.

    Great series! I'm a simpleton, but can you add the limiter and the Stereo Ultimo Compressor into your mixbus?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому +1

      No, the X32 only allows you to run one inserted effect per channel (input, MixBUS, Matrix).

    • @Timmy_S
      @Timmy_S 3 роки тому

      You can however use the channel strip compressor as a limiter by setting the ratio to 100. I am curious if this is sonically different to using up an effects slot with the precision limiter.

    Hey Dave - how are you routing the audio for the matrix? I understand the mix bus being post fader.
    We are currently only using a mix bus for the livestream. This is going from from an xlr to our switcher.
    How are you sending audio to your switcher using the matrix?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 роки тому

      We also use XLRs and started with a regular Post Fader MixBUS setup for our stream. All I did was link Matrix 1/2, move the faders to unity, select the Mateix and hit send on fader, click the BUS Master on the far left to find your BUSes and push your live stream into the Matrix. Finally, go to Routing > Out and change the source to your XLRs from the BUSes to the Matrix pair.

      We currently are using bus 3 and 4. So I would need to route the output for bus 3 and 4 to the matrix?

    Soo . .. as I understand is
    Matrix out to livestream is a copy signal of the main LR but
    Mix bus out to livestream is another set of the whole mix straight to your livestream . . . am I right?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  5 місяців тому

      My livestream mix is built on a MixBUS pair giving me a stereo mix. That mix doesn’t go anywhere except to my Matrix. The Matrix is then routed out of the console to my streaming device. The benefit is that I get to utilize more of the onboard effects to control my livestream mix.

    We have a behringer x32 and my question is how to send a separate audio to different areas in church. For example foyer, cry room, etc.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 роки тому

      The short version is you have two options.
      1) you could send your house mix to a Matrix and then route the matrix out an XLR output that feeds the amp which powers those speakers.
      2) Most people now have a live stream so I would build a mix on a stereo MixBUS for my stream and then push that MixBUS pair (only) to a Matrix. Then route this matrix to an XLR output and send it to the amp feeding these speakers.
      I’m happy to assist in the comments if needed or I do offer consulting if that is a quicker, more direct way to get setup. If you want to go that route, you can shoot me a message on my contact card at sound.AllamHouse.com

    How much gain reduction should one aim for on the stereo Ultimo compression? and also should one set the Output dial on the stereo Ultimo compression to touch -18dbfs. Thank you

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому +1

      Typically, I’m hitting 5-8dB gain reduction on that compressor for vocals and 3-4dB on my MixBUS for livestream. I do boost the output gain on my vocals to help the, sit on top of the mix, and I push the output on the MixBUS some so the limiter isn’t working too hard. On the Livestream side you want to keep in mind the total chain of compressors (including limiters) so you can manage each step and not over do it on one specific compressor.

    • @AllamHouse

      Unfortunately, you are not able to add a single input into a matrix. A matrix is a mix of buses so you would need to use a bus that feeds into the matrix. This video talks about a matrix setup I tried earlier in the year. ua-cam.com/video/hcXC68iQrNI/v-deo.html

      This video talks about some basic multitrack recording information. In terms of a computer, I recommend an i7 processor and at least 8GB or RAM. I still record a lot on a 2012 MacBook Pro and have recently used a basic $400 Windows machine with these basic stats. It doesn’t take a lot of you are just recording.

      @AllamHouse I had noticed at my local church that the audio is coming from the X32 from aux bus 5/6 from a matrix setup with a aux cable that is linked with one cable going to a Blackmagic hdmi switch board & the other cable is going to a magewell capture card connected to obs it's a weird setup & I noticed once I have a Precision Limiter enabled & obs input audio is set to -2.0 the audio will start getting distortions like it's clipping or something

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  5 місяців тому

      Yeah, that setup does sound odd and could be streamlined for sure. You do have to work with OBS to make sure the levels are not too hot coming in or it will digitally clip and I find it best to make any needed changes on the soundboard so you can leave OBS at the "all the way up" setting. This is one less thing to troubleshoot in the future.
