Thanks! Yes I should have recorded more of the cosmetic repair. I live on a busy street and didn't want to subject everyone to constant cars driving by. I need to find a new location for that
Amazing work! So satisfying to see it working so well in the end. The image quality at the very end looked decent too. I liked the light color but I think it also looks good in the chocolate brown.
Nice job! Philco quality went way down by the 50's and they definitely made them challenging to service. I think recreating the blonde finish would've been extremely time consuming, so that was a good solution. Plus it matches the rest of your radios!
Excelente reparación, estas señores si son ABUELAS TELEVISIÓNES y de la buenas que vale la pena repararlas, el cinescopio aun tiene muy buena EMISION de electrones 😃😃👏👏👍👍
Loved watching you restore the electronics! Hate the dark brown color that shows the blemishes even more than the original "blonde" color! You need to "restore" the color like you did the electronics (including the decals for the controls on the top!)
Super lucky you nice find and it went well not too big a problem to fix after all could have been worse. Like watching it would have been cool to watch a vintage 50s BW show on it. the BW receiving color shows is not that great. thanks Mike
Excellent work, Jack! I admire your determination in finishing a challenging project like this. If you did decide to replace the picture tube can a "new" one be sourced?
Thanks so much! It’s possible to find a new old stock 17DRP4, but exceptionally rare. The last company that was rebuilding picture tubes, Hawkeye, closed down in 2010 so a lot of collectors are sort of waiting for someone else to tackle that challenge.
*THE ORIGINAL FINISH* is a "combed" wood grain though for lines that fine you could just do it with a stiff bristle hand brush / dust pan brush - its a REDUCTIVE finish I believe You start with a dark brown base, then you paint it white, then as the white starts to tackify you go over it with the brush to REMOVE the paint and leave the lines. You can practice on a bit of hardboard first. I would DEFINITELY go to the trouble of learning the finish and go over the brown - I think this set deserves the effort. - we both know you are not happy with this finish...
Any suggestions of places to get [free?] spec sheets/user manuals? I have a Predicta holiday and have only found places to pay, and don’t know if they are complete/full. Cheers.
Hi Jack : I had a vintage radio turnable grundig mandello 2 1960 needs comprehensive repair. the wooden console is completely intact but the turnables need a new stylus and complete lubrication and radio needs only replacing of the damaged tubes , resistors , capacitors and need general cleaning of the mechanism, so what do you think as an expert .. Thanks !
From what you described, that's how I would tackle it. Replace the caps and resistors in the power supply, get a new stylus, lubricate the mechanical portion of the turntable, and it should work fine. For long term use, I would replace the other smaller value capacitors as well.
@@televisionforever thanks jack : I was hoping to give you this set , so that you could do the whole process of repairing it. but unfortunately i am foreigner. I live in another continent and the shipping trip to atlanta would cost me a lot lot of money , but I know now what to do inside my grundig mandello w 1960 .. 👍 🌹
Your videos are so thoroughly enjoyable! Kinda fascinating, actually! I'm so impressed that you can restore these beauties!
You did a great job. This is a great way to learn electronics and enjoy yourself too through TV or Radio circuitry.
Great job on the Philco predicta.
Very good, amazing 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍, nice!
That pop up tuning dial is awesome. Beautiful set! I'd love to see more of the cosmetic restoration process.

A lot of work but it paid off! Nice color change too. Thanks for sharing with us!
I didn't expect the tube to look that good. Great job. Problem solving will always keep you mind sharp.
EXCELLENT ! Your expertise and knowledge has preserved yet another piece of history,Congrats !
It passed the kitty check -- that's good
I like your cat!
Wonderful work!! This came out super nice in the end. I would’ve lost my mind in the troubleshooting phase haha.
😀nice videos
You did a great job ! It looks way better than before . Liked and shared. All my best.
Very nice work! And it looks very good with the colour change !
Thank you so much!
The retainer you put on the pot is called an "E" clip.

Geniusz
Wanted to re-watch this-and there are sooo many commercials! Did UA-cam add them in? It’s like every three minutes
That was one filthy floor.

I'm not him but I do know new tubes can be found but they're very hard to find and can be pretty costly too

Hi Jack I think the picture tube tested bad because you had the filament voltage at three volts instead of six .
The 21EAP4 picture tube operates on a 2.34v filament

Where do you get your capacitors from?
I get them from Mouser
@@televisionforever Ah alright, that's where I've been hearing to get them from
