Vintage 1949 GE Television Restoration
This is a 1949 General Electric Model 821 television. The chassis is very similar to the Locomotive GE set as well. This is a keeper for a while. This was a really fun restoration. It's wild to think these beauties can be restored even after 75 years. If you'd like to see more frequent updates on new sets, follow me @televisionforever on Instagram.

1965 RCA Victor "New Vista" Television Restoration

This was a fun break from the older tube sets and ended up with a very strong image. I'm probably keeping this set for myself for a while. It's a nice MCM piece. RCA was pumping out some rock solid sets during this time.

This is a 1953 Zenith L1800R (Ch. 19L34) Super "K" Chassis. I hope to do a restoration in the future on this set because the picture tube decided to wake up. I'm curious how much work has been done to it in the past.

Unbelievably excited on this next series. The Kuba Komet has safely arrived home. I will be doing a full electronic restoration and keeping the cabinet as is. I'm excited to show inner details of the inside and share measurements of what these works of art look like in person. Let me know if you have any advice or questions!

Really pretty RCA Victor television set from 1961. I'd love to be able to keep this beauty but trying to downsize at the moment. I feel the portable designs really exploded in the late 1950s-1960s before complete transistor sets while keeping the Atomic style.

I picked up a set I restored a few years ago from the person I sold it to. I'm glad to have it back in my collection and look forward to restoring it to 100% in a later video. It operates on 220v which isn't a problem, but the sound I can't get to sync up with the audio. I'm thinking of bypassing the tuner completely and adding AV inputs for the video and audio. Stay tuned!

    I am really wondering how you get RCA cables (roku/DVD player) plugged into an old television like this? I saw in one of your videos that you used an HDMI to RCA converter for the roku but I am wondering how you then get that onto the television, I'd really like to know if you have a second to explain! =) awesome videos, this one is amazing

    The problem with the low HV reminds me of when I neglected to reinstall the HV doorknob cap in my Emerson. It would be mostly ok at super low brightness but would quickly lose HV. Perhaps your cap was open or had a poor connection. You said you replaced the 470 ohm resistor on the HV line but it's supposed to be 470k. I hope you misspoke but if you did replace it with the wrong value it would mask an open doorknob.

    • @televisionforever
      @televisionforever 2 дні тому

      Yes, rewatching this, I did misspeak. I did replace it with a 470k resistor

    • @eDoc2020
      @eDoc2020 2 дні тому

      @@televisionforever Assuming you were measuring the voltage after the resistor I guess the resistor just went super high value. I was previously under the impression you were measuring at the cap which would mean the results are very perplexing.

    • @televisionforever
      @televisionforever 2 дні тому

      @@eDoc2020Oh wow I hadn’t realized that. I was measuring before the resistor to measure the HV. But after I replaced the cable and resistor, I was still measuring before the resistor and the high voltage was perfect. I did measure before and after the resistor before I replaced it and got the same result so I do believe the resistor was to blame but I’m not sure why the voltage would drop before the resistor as I turned the brightness up.

    Hi Jack, I just wanted to give you a little shout out that nuvistors and I might got the spelling a bit wrong are not a type of transistor but the smallest tube that there is. Look up the type 6DS4 and you will see what I mean. Also, try checking the tubes to make sure that they all work as well. Never take the tubes for granted and you might eliminate some problems that you are not aware of.

    I used to have that same set. It actually did work, it just had shrunken/rolled over vertical deflection. It was bright though and passed a signal well. Sadly, at the time I didn't know what I was doing, so I never got it working either; I now look back at it and cringe because of how well everything was working, it just needed caps and would have been good to go.

    I remember 25 years ago going to antique shops and saw several different models of Predica's but unfortunately I am not an electrician and of course none worked and were sold as is. I am sure you have to have excellent patience to fix these sets just like what you went through on this set. Even though I cannot fix old sets, I enjoy watching people like you fix them. Thanks for sharing and this is the first video I have seen by you and I have subscribed to your channel. My parents were the first to get a TV on the block back in the late 40s or early 50s. I remember when I was four years old they had an Emerson probably a 6 to 8 inch screen table top set. I would watch a kiddie show that came on at noon on King channel 5 which was NBC In Seattle if I remember correctly.

    The resistors you cut out of the filament chain are NTC style resistors. The value of these resistors goes lower when heat-up. This is a important function to limit the inrush-current in the filament chain. Without the NTC resistors you run the risk of burning-out the filaments at power-up

    • @televisionforever
      @televisionforever 5 днів тому

    Nice work Jack, dogged persistence pays off! When you have something slowly rolling through the picture, it means the 60 Hz line is getting into the signal path at some point. That component layout on the bottom of the chassis looked difficult to replace components with those vertical terminal boards. I wonder how much money General Electric saved by going with the series filaments, numerous electrolytics, and selenium rectifiers versus a power normal transformer, 5U4 rectifier, and half the electrolytics? That 4.7 ohm resistor in series with the voltage doubler, you might want to increase in value to keep the same B+ voltages. I always like to include a CL90 thermistor in series with the line to give a soft power-on. This is especially important with series filament strings due to unequal filament resistances when cold. Overall - Great Job!

    • @televisionforever
      @televisionforever 5 днів тому

      Thanks Bill! I think I’m going to put back the original filament resistors because I believe they act like thermistors for the filament line. I’ll probably put in a CL-90 as well for extra protection too.

    • @billharris6886
      @billharris6886 5 днів тому

      @televisionforever They may be negative temperature coefficient resistors, I was wondering why they were so far off value. You can easily test them by measuring the resistance while heating them with a heat gun.

    Fantastic work! I have restored three late 1940’s Magnavox sets, all using the 12KP4 CRT. The have a fairly complex B+ and B- rail. Only one of the five electrolytic filters has a section where the negative connects to chassis ground. Once up and running, they are excellent performers. These were one CT-214, and two CT-220s. One lives in the legendary Imperial Windsor console. One live in the Embassy console. The third is a spare.

      I always start with rebuilding the power supply before a soft power up. So electrolytics, selenium rectifiers, dropping resistor need to be checked and replaced, especially ones this old. Problems in the power supply can cause of types of issues
