    In my state in the U.S.--and probably in others--we have Urgent Care Clinics which are for more serious problems than ones you'd go to your family doctor for but not serious enough to go to an Emergency room for. It frees up a lot of E.R. beds. If the doctor at the Urgent Care Clinic feels like your condition is serious enough to go for emergency treatment he tell you to go.
    I went to the Urgent Care Clinic the day after I'd broken a bone in my foot the evening before. It didn't even cross my mind to go to an E.R. to have it looked at. There have been other, very serious problems that I've gone to the E.R. for at the suggestion of my family physician. (I almost died twice.)

    Peters situation happens all over the world my father went through the same many a times . It just depend how many emergencies that come in , being from accidents ... not enough doctors , not enough time ... it’s a fact of life . Dad use to get so frustrated , so joking around helped him through it . In Australia we have a problem with people clogging up ED , when they could of gone to the local Dr . They huff and puff when people go ahead of them .

    Poor Peter!..... so unfair having to wait that long for such an important test only to get sent back home ! Feel like elderly people get overlooked too often, they deserve much more attention and care. To my eyes they are our memories, our history and the ones who pass on traditions and wisdom and many of them have fought for us to have the freedom we have today! Peter is so polite and a real sweetheart and full of dignity, he's scared but he won't show it. For such a life changing diagnosis he shouldn't be waiting and worrying so much.

      sure I get it......
      But how many people out there want to work,
      getting paid to build hospitals (and hospital beds)
      getting training and payment to be doctors, nurses and surgeons?
      They should have medical teams on standby.
      Because we know, for sure, emergencies and accidents happen every day.
      I really don't think there is an excuse for an underfunded and inadequate healthcare infrastructure.
      We should be building for 110% future capacity,
      instead of 80-85% or MORE under capacity.
      We can go to war, we can go to space
      And we can have so much over the top STUFF.
      But we can't adequately care for the people
      that brought us into this world and worked their whole lives
      and paid their taxes?
      Sorry, there is no excuse, for what happened to Peter and his daughter
      who had to miss a day at HER job,
      in my opinion.

    • @shellyscorner
      @shellyscorner 3 роки тому +4

      I agree! I live in the US and it's different everywhere, depending on what hospital, in what city, and in which state. The local hospital that I frequent, quite literally due to severe, and very difficult to treat asthma it costs almost $2/hr with a cap of $10/day last I looked. Patient or visitor, we all pay alike. It infuriates me that I'm there, in their facility being charged not only my doctor's fee, and supplies used, but also, there's a charge for the use of the facility! Oh! If you happen to be given a pill to swallow, insurance won't cover it as it was "self administered"! I nearly fell out the first time I found out about that one! So, if you happen to have driven your self to the hospital, which I usually do, you park outside the ED for free, if you're admitted to the hospital, THEY move your car to the hospital parking deck across the street. If your in the hospital for a week, you'll have to pay the $70 to drive out of the deck. If you don't have a way to pay, they take down the license plate number of your car and give you slip to sign with all of your info. Your supposed to pay it within a set period of time, if you fail to do so, for whatever reason, there's no attempt to contact you, nor do they send it to a collections agency, BUT the next time you file your taxes, the fees owed will be deducted from your refund if you get one. ...not sure how that works if you don't have a refund, but they (the state) probably send you a bill... You know, I mean, it's not like you came to visit someone you came because you were sick!

    • @shyone968
      @shyone968 5 років тому +3

      I agree. my husband and I are both disabled with many health issues. We only use the ER/A and E when it definitely can not wait. We use our primary care doctor and urgent care facility appropriately and only after trying to handle it at home first. If only more people would do that then the wait times at the ER would not be so bad. We check hospital wait times and go to the one that isn't so full.

      @@shyone968 Same. With my heart condition, when I get tachycardia and pass out I am supposed to go to the ER for obsrrvation and tests but 98% of the time I do not. Don't want to be a bother. Then I see people going for a bruise, and I get so angry. A person can rupture a bowel, a appendix, or get a heart attack while Martha takes her son for a scrape on the knee.

    My son Thomas, also red haired, was a walking 'disaster zone'😊
    You name it from bike riding to football, there was always an accident waiting to happen!

    2 hours in the waiting room is considered long, where I live you can easily wait 12 hours in the waiting room. Although my town is a bit faster with 5 hours wait times normally. Wow they hand out meds in the Er to take home like nothing. In Canada you may take home one dose if your not able to get to the pharmacy but usually you just get a script. Most hospitals in my area don't even give out crutches, instead you rent them from the pharmacy.
