Fantastic Ralfy! Loved hearing the rooster in the distance. Just back home from a cold but sunny three mile walk. Robins and redwing blackbirds arrived this week, although there is still 30 inches of ice on the lakes. The sun is higher in the sky, the days are longer, and those birds know spring is nearly here, great to hear their songs again. Take care, Ossie
I will be 100% honest. I do not drink whiskeys or scotches, for the most part. Though, I am a huge Big Clive fan and I thank him so much that I found his brothers channel. I honestly enjoy watching this channel so much. Thank you Ralfy for another exceptional video!!!
"O frabjous day, calloo-callay!!" We finally see our dear Ralfy in the sunshine AND the outside of the bothy (which sports very good, solid slate construction, by-the-by)...some impressive bottles there, sir!
Way to go @Go Habs on the Malt Mention. Fantastic insight into the World of Whisky Auctions and for covering the ground on listing of products, no doubt about it for me that we will see a lot of GlenDronach Single Cask bottlings on Auctions in the upcoming months and years, as the recent Batch 16 disappeared within minutes of going live on online retailers. But as always Ralfy great and informative video. Hope I wasn't the only one worried about the Macallan box and bottle flying off the table.
Lately started collecting Carsebridge, Caledonian, North of Scotland, Garnheath, Port Dundas and Cambus.... Single grain from sadly lost grain distilleries. I know it's not malt, but i still enjoy them.... and they're still affordable !
A very informative review Ralfy. Collectors want items as good as new. Any imperfection and the price is reduced considerably. I've been a book and music collector for decades and the same is true. The only exceptions are items of extreme importance and rarity. People new to the game often fail to understand this. It is also imperative for a seller to protect their reputation by being completely transparent regarding any flaw.
Oh my God. I started to lose my mind when I saw the Lagavulin Jazz festival bottle. I didn't think that would be considered a collectible! I visited Scotland a few years back and bought a bottle from the distillery(sampled it before I had it, I think). Delicious dram! All finished now though... I haven't had the privileged to try an older release of Lagavulin but I will say that the Jazz Festival bottle(2015) was my favorite! Comes pretty close to the 2012 Lagavulin 12yo.
Hi Ralfy! Great video as always! Quite interested in hearing about your planned rum barrel purchase! I've been experimenting with self-aging my own rum (Wray's Overproof plus toasted French oak chips!), inspired, of course, by watching you videos. I was wondering if you'd ever thought about doing a Ralfy review touching on the subject of dunder/muck pits; I don't think I've heard you talk about it in your rum reviews, but the topic is really fascinating.
Great video as always. Masterful advice and perspective! May the spring bring you closer to the quintessential dream dram. Edit: Just realized we cannot spell DREAM without a DRAM...
Hi Ralfy I got a bottle of Talisker 57 north for €70 a few days ago from a local retailer. It comes with a large paxkage with two small copita styled glasses and a book about food pairings. It’s a discontinued bottle from a brand that has many fans and with that addon I mentioned. Do you think this could be a good auction opportunity?
Very informative Ralfy and as a rum drinker your conclusion makes me wonder what kind of rum are you buying, why barrels and how much of rum. Well done 👍 rum is gold isn’t it?
I have a Lagavulin Feis Ile bottle from 2016. I originally was going to drink it years down the road, but I might hold off and turn it into an investment. Is there a sort of magical number of years to hold on, after which returns diminish?
I think that Ralfy uses ScotchWhiskyAuctions.com which sponsored his successful attempt on the world speed record. I saw there some of his bottles of Port Charlotte once.
Ralfy, if you have more bottles of this kind left, just hold on to the MOFOs until they become above 10000£, or even more, because in 7/8 or some years, that will most probably happen
Ralfy do you think that Rum may be the next big thing? And if so do you think now would be a good time for someone to invest in older and good quality rums? Thanks!
The Malt Land Velier! Foursquare is building momentum right now. Habitation Velier maybe. A few Agricole like Bielle. Look towards Jamaica and Barbados.
Hi Malt Land. I've been buying good rums for many years but it's a tricky in terms of investment. We are going through a period where some incredible rums are being produced and people like Richard Seale and Luca Gargano are pushing for rum classification to establish minimum standards in the industry which it desperately needs. Collectable rums are coming from closed distilleries like Caroni, but, importantly, bottled before closure. A collectable rum may have been produced in limited quantities for a historical event but with no liquid distinction. Velier are producing amazing rum but it's already expensive. It might double or triple in price if you wait long enough. At my age it's not worth putting expensive rum in storage and hoping I double my money. The other thing to consider is that excellent rum, which is being produced in small batches or single casks by independent bottlers, is quite an acquired taste. The vast majority of people that fork out big bucks for Macallan are unlikely to enjoy it.
My curiosity has kept this vid in the peripheries of my consciousness. I wonder why you placed those particular bottles on slate shelves next to a high relief lion. You didn't put those bottles there just because you had some free time, there was a reason. The only other bottle I can ID is an unknown Glenfiddich. Are they bottles you enjoyed? Perhaps, something subliminal.
Hi ralfy, it’s my 36 birthday in April and I was going to buy something special for a few hundred pounds as a collectors piece, maybe around my 1982 birth date. Any suggestions in what would be a good buy? Kind regards Iain
When you pulled that Macallan out of the box and set it on the table I was just waiting for it to tip over and break. Box was rocking,...jeez,....careful, careful.
Collectors are weird. I have a selection, not a collection. People who get hung up on a scratch on the label...It's their money and good luck to them but it all tastes the same to me.
You got a 30yo Japanese whisky for 140-160 quid??!! I disagree with you though, I would certainly be interested in tasting the Glendronach and the Lagavulin! :)
This review somehow looks like a kind of praise, Ralfy. A sort of "see people what i've got". Not good for low budget enthusiasts from Eastern Europe, Mr. Ralfy. not good....

I appreciate that you're posting this rewiew on a sunday afternoon, Ralfy.
just the right time!
on the wall one dram for each step to the front door- brilliant

. . . happy to help with the malt-moments !

Thank you Jason. It's quite an honour!
Yes, the MaCallan box moment made me jump in my seat a little!
Reminded us of another "moment" in the sun and wind from awhile back! :-O
. . . sometimes accidents . . . almost happen !
Thank you for the Malt Mention ralfy. Cheers.
A legend is born! :)
Go Habs that was cool to hear, my friend. When did you submit it? 2010🤣 I hear it’s competitive.
Thanks Mark. It was certainly unexpected. Can't remember when I sent it in. Several months ago for sure.
I caught a sweat hearing that wind and watching that overly narrow Macallan bottle.
Nice change to shoot this outdoors. That table is great looking. Must be warming up at the Manx Bothy👍
Fascinating video! Thanks Ralfy 👌😊🥃!
My favorite kind of Ralfy video. Great info.
Ralfy the Whisky Wizard and now Whisky Speculator.........amazing! So many facets to this gentleman.
Lately started collecting Carsebridge, Caledonian, North of Scotland, Garnheath, Port Dundas and Cambus.... Single grain from sadly lost grain distilleries. I know it's not malt, but i still enjoy them.... and they're still affordable !
. . . Carsebridge is often overlooked and under-rated !
I would love a bothey video tour
great video ralfy I've been stock piling quality mezcals for years, a fantastic spirit.

Wow, the last words you said Ralphy really moved me! The sun makes it all happen!
Very interesting episode, Ralfy, thanks.
Fascinating Vlog Ralfy it would be nice to know what You actually got for the bottles, that you sent to auction, thanks again Ralfy.
. . . I will let you know !

. . . I will cover this topic at some point in the future !
I can't even drink whisky because it gives me heartburn, but I still enjoy tremendously watching these videos.
Great video as always. Masterful advice and perspective! May the spring bring you closer to the quintessential dream dram.
Edit: Just realized we cannot spell DREAM without a DRAM...
here at south mexico, we hide from the sun, currently at 40C or 104F, but I can see how you can enjoy it coming from a very cold country
The environment looks like from Game of Thrones :)
summers coming!
Craig Ferguson said that Dave Attel once asked him: "Do you Scottish people watch Game of Thrones, or do you just look out the window?"
Is this the first time you have shown the outside of the bothy?
Some remarkable skills of human reflexes at 5.20 there, Ralfy! I bet you couldn’t have managed that with a couple of drams in the stomach haha!

You know what is a real bargain nowadays-Vintage Port. Saw a full bottle of Croft 2009 for $51.
Bunnahbain the Ultimate moine versions, collect them to drink peated versions of the Islay malt !
Barbados rum ? !
Very informative Ralfy and as a rum drinker your conclusion makes me wonder what kind of rum are you buying, why barrels and how much of rum. Well done 👍 rum is gold isn’t it?
. . . someday I will tell more !
Happy springtime, Ralfy!
Say, are those whisky bottles up on your wall there?
I'm nervous watching this whole video - precarious placements....
I'm glad someone else felt this, couldn't watch half of it, with Ralfie's investment tottering around on the table!
I reached for the Macallan a couple of times too. Cringe
Nokomis FL?
I felt the same...even when the box of Macallan began to "shake".
Me too, and Ralfy can be a wee bit clumsy sometimes.
Soooo...... where did you get the hunch that these bottles were going to be worth more in the future?
. . . a hunch ! Quality will always have residual value.
I have a Lagavulin Feis Ile bottle from 2016. I originally was going to drink it years down the road, but I might hold off and turn it into an investment. Is there a sort of magical number of years to hold on, after which returns diminish?
where do you auction your whisky?
I think that Ralfy uses ScotchWhiskyAuctions.com which sponsored his successful attempt on the world speed record. I saw there some of his bottles of Port Charlotte once.
2:44 My heart skipped a beat... 😊
Awesome Ralfy, u r the best 👍

You made my day ! 🤙🏼
Barrels of rum. Very interesting. Great video Ralfy.
"ho-ho-ho and some ... !"
I saw a bottle of Bunna Auld Acq. listed at £ 2000 pluss at Masters of Malt recently...
. . . very over-priced !
Hey Ralfy, if you ralfy recommend Sunshine, howsabout a malty sun mark for it?
. . . . 86/100
Did the auction go well Ralfie - were you close with your predictions?
. . . It went well !
Pleased to hear it!!
Malty Malt macabre
p.s a fascinating video, by the way, Ralfy! Thank you.
. . . now on the M-mention List, thanks !
Did you ever buy the barrels of rum?
. . . yes.
Ralfy do you think that Rum may be the next big thing? And if so do you think now would be a good time for someone to invest in older and good quality rums?
Thanks!

jackieflannery1974 excellent answer. I'll add just Caroni and Demerara...
Christian G
You’re right!
I was aiming in part to that with Velier.
I’m invited this week to taste Foursquares 2018 releases.😍
Sweet!
jackieflannery1974 ... thanks I will look into these gems:)

Looks like one fine day on the Isle of Man.
I hope you have more than 1 Kara in your collection :)
What rum do you intend to buy? I love the 4 square from Barbados !!
. . . me too !
Well, now this is around 3500/4000£
Is that a Dunvilles on the self wall?
. . . yes !
I can get it for $36. It's a bargain.
My curiosity has kept this vid in the peripheries of my consciousness. I wonder why you placed those particular bottles on slate shelves next to a high relief lion. There is meaning and then there are archetypes...
Hi ralfy, it’s my 36 birthday in April and I was going to buy something special for a few hundred pounds as a collectors piece, maybe around my 1982 birth date. Any suggestions in what would be a good buy? Kind regards Iain
. . . go to a whisky auction site and see what catches your attention. Then see if it's still around in shops.
ralfydotcom
Hey Ralfy thank you for the reply it's much appreciated, will do thank you!
Nice Job
Why is that Lagavulin more "provenanced" than their standard bottlings?
. . . it's a special edition !
and perhaps the vintage - year distilled and year bottled vs just "x years old"?
Buy low, sell high.
Would you consider Serendipity a collectible?
. . . a small collectable, not a big one !
ralfydotcom Thanks. Picked up a bottle at a charity auction last year.
When you pulled that Macallan out of the box and set it on the table I was just waiting for it to tip over and break. Box was rocking,...jeez,....careful, careful.

Ralfy: Have you tried any Garrison Brothers Bourbon distilled and aged in Hye Texas? They are coming on strong, they make good whiskey.
. . . on the liquor-radar !
You got a 30yo Japanese whisky for 140-160 quid??!!
I disagree with you though, I would certainly be interested in tasting the Glendronach and the Lagavulin! :)
