I am addiction free and I have one piece of advice. You need to have a desire that is immovable. Dont listen to all these "mind tricks" because if you have to resort to tricks, you dont have a pure desire to change. For the first weeks where I had urges, I said "I am willing to die to live a virtous life." No matter the intensity of the urge I always said "If this kills me but it means I can live a clean life, so be it." When you are willing to DIE for a noble cause, your spirit kicks into a different level. God requires a broken heart and contrite spirit.
The broken heart and contrite spirit result from the Holy Spirit, not self-effort. While effort is essential, the very desire for deliverance is a gift from the Lord Jesus Christ. We cannot even desire correctly without Jesus!

Set it for one week, and then two and just continue on. Journaling in your phone or on paper helps as well. Write a journal entry every night before bed declaring your victory for Jesus on that day! I overcame pornography through Jesus, I kept praying and reading the word. Temptations are still there but I find it easier to flee from ❤️ 2 weeks ago I remember the temptation was so strong but then I switched to my Bible app then read a few verses and then prayed for the temptation to go away. Do not compromise, do not treat it as a little sin or it's okay, it'll seep in slowly if you do not act fiercely over that sin.

Relapsed hundreds of times..if not thousands. It was ONLY through a couple days of intentional *FASTING* and *PRAYING* that I received my deliverance. No food whatsoever, just water whenever I felt hungry or thirsty, an occasional pinch of salt to balance sodium (electrolytes), and a daily multivitamin.. It feels like you're about to die (but you're not lol). Your body will go into ketosis (battery saver mode) and burn fat for energy (best way to lose fat). The point of it is not starving yourself, but to say _"Lord, I need you. I desire your Word more than I desire to satisfy my body's cravings. Strengthen me; Deliver me"_ In these moments of denying our flesh and opening our hearts to God through *Prayer and Thanksgiving* , He speaks to us. He delivers us. So much truth. I watched porn several times a day from 12 to the age of 34. Did not exercise self control. I lost relationships, financial opportunities, nearly got arrested and expelled from university. Still didn't realize I had a problem. But the moment my wife left me, and I thought I would lose her if I kept watching, I refrained for over a month and my viewership cut by 90%. Since getting to know Christ, it's down by 99%, with the occasional lapse in judgment. It only happens when I fall for the enemy's lies. As I continue to increase my love, faith, and willpower in Jesus, I know he will completely deliver me from it.

I’m 26 years old and I got liberated not to long ago. I know how hard it is to stop. The “I’m not going to do it anymore” then falling back into old ways and then crying over the shame and guilt. God delivered me from the gay lifestyle, porn, alcohol, drugs and cigarettes 10 years ago. I still have temptation with lust here and there but I rely on the Lord for strength to say no. We can’t do it without Him. I wouldn’t want to.

We are saved by grace, and that's important to remember. You're right, you will not go to hell because of lust or porn, no matter how many times you fail in those areas. Because your own ability to refrain from sin is not what guarantees your salvation. It's the work of Jesus that was finished on the cross. Do good and right by God because you love Him and want to please Him, not because you are worried about trying to earn your salvation.

I feel like the woman who knew if she could just touch Jesus' cloak, she would be healed of her internal bleeding. Jesus said, "your faith has healed you". Have faith my brothers and sisters, faith in the One Saviour will heal a multitude of sins.
1 Corinthians 7 Paul states that he wished every Christian had the gift of sexual purity, but admits few do, so he advices those that do not to marry. Christ in Matthew 12:11 states the gift is given to few. If God healed you, great, but most of us will not get healing because Christ did not promise and on the contrary he said the opposite. So I would think people need to chill over this, the blood of Christ was shed for this sin, and that is sufficient for those of us that cannot stop watching porn.

I pray for all of us to overcome any kind of sin. ♡ The first action of overcoming lust is acknowledging that it is a sin. One tip to turn away from lust is to be aware of the things you see online. Sometimes even though you don't want to see things that trigger lust, it comes up as ads or retweets on twitter. I honestly stop using twitter due to this reason. In my life I've found power and victory over lust grows more and more as I grow as a person. For example, when I realized there really is a spiritual battle and that it was satan who convinced me I was a loser, I grew a little, he could no longer oppress me with that lie. Or when God showed me that I have already been set free from sin, I grew a little more because I realized I didn't have to give in to temptation. I believed I was a slave to sexual sin and porn for 20 years until I understood Paul in Romans saying I am not longer a slave (we who were baptised to Christ), and the true cost of continued choice of this sin was eternal punishment. I didn't understand that I could be free and that I must be free. It has been almost four years since I have learned this and God has helped me overcome this and I walk in freedom since (almost four years now). Praise God. The stakes are too high to ignore, and the freedom is available to all who are born again of water and spirit. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ! I don't know what would have happened if I died five years ago, but I'm not willing to find out now!

Have you received the gift of the Holy Spirit who helps you walk in the new life you have been given? Read Acts 2. Romans says if we have died with Christ (baptism) then we are no longer slaves but have been set free, but warns us even though we are now free not to think we are unable to go back to our sins and suffer the eternal consequences. This bred a healthy fear of God and unwillingness to turn from Him and loose it all. There are far too many warnings to the saints about the dangers of continuing to choose sin and being cut off from Christ. I obey Jesus because I love him and I fear him, and he has given me his Holy Spirit to walk in victory. He has done everything and given me everything necessary to walk as He wants. He did not come just to cover sin but to remove it!
My eternal does not depend on whether I watch porn or not, thank God. Your expounding poor theology, if you trust in stopping porn for your salvation instead of the blood of Christ, you my brother have a problem. You are correct that the Christian is no longer a slave to sin as Paul says in Romans 6, but Paul also says in Romans 7 that there is another law in the members of our body and that when we sin it is no longer I that do it but sin that dwells in me. I will respectfully say this is the exact type of talk that makes it harder for people that are addicted to pornography. The analogies you gave doesn't display self control, but they are momentarily controlled by something that is stronger than their addiction. Once out of the situation, it will be back. Well, there it is. I’ve struggled with this sin for years, but the pastor’s argument is solid. I need to put on my big boy pants and say no. Because, in the end, the stakes are very high. I am a recovering alcoholic and I know real addiction. There was a time I’d give up my family for a drink. I know this because I did it. I cannot truthfully say that I’d give up my family at the end of the day for the sake of porn. So, I do have control over it. This revelation is not condemning, it is freeing. I can do something about this terrible perversion of somebody’s daughter or sister or mother or friend. My God is a big God. He can set me free if I am willing. I am willing. It's Hard especially when you have endless data that you don't have use for. I found that Prayer really helps and I fasted and prayed until I stopped. it does cross my mind sometimes to just watch a little bit but I also remember that I'm breaking a promise iv made to Myself and God. I feel so at peace knowing that I will never go back there again.
I've been struggling with this for as long as I can remember. I've gone some months without falling into sin and I feel like I'm set free and then I fall again seemingly out of nowhere and it's like I'm back to square one again. Please pray for me that I may be truly set free and that my heart would desire the Lord more than any other temptation of the enemy. It’s awesome to see that ministries are being raised up to help those in the stronghold of porn and The Lord is pleased for us to stand together in unity to battle perhaps the greatest hidden sin of the days we live in. Brothers and sisters we must lovingly take the shame away from sharing about the influence of porn in the church. Not giving in to sin is a powerful thing. When you get the urges, even if you feel them, it is far more "dignified" to feel yet not let it control you. Feelings come and go. But acts... they are what defines us and our willpower. We sometimes can't control our lust. But we can control whether or not we act on it. If we can keep it in our minds that acting on it is bad for us and will shatter our dignity and honor, and if in those moments we CHOOSE not to crumble under desire (and it IS a choice, no one's forcing you to do it, you make the choice to do it because it feels good) the feelings will pass, and we won't feel guilty (at least I don't, feeling lust vs acting on it is worlds apart in terms of how it makes you feel later on). When you get desires, accept them, let them do what they want in your body, don't act on them, and they will pass. When you sin, you choose to obey them, you WANT to obey them in a way, because it feels good to give in at that moment. Once you realize that it is your choice, you will be set free. It is YOUR choice to seek God. It is YOUR choice not to act on your feelings. There isn't a force in the world that can make you sin, there are only forces that can CHARM you into sinning, and you WILLINGLY fall for it.
I am porn free for quite some time now, don’t really count anymore. There’s no need to count. I’ll never look back. I am morally repulsed by it. I remember when I watched this video the first time it brought tears to my eyes. It is what we believe. And that’s why there’s people out there trying to tell us what to believe , especially in regards to pornography.
The horrible thing about lust and pornography, is that it gets to a point where it so consumes you that not only do you want to stop but can't, but it also reaches a point where "regular" pornography doesn't satisfy you anymore. Its like drinking cyanide, you know it's going to kill you but you just can't stop. I was introduced to all of that at a very young age and it's had a hold of me my entire life up to this point.

There is only one source of genuine self-control. It comes as fruit of the Spirit. It does not come as a result of being frightened momentarily by one incident or the other. The question then is - what is it to walk in the Spirit and exhibit this fruit, as prescribed in the book of Galatians? The answer to this is very clear in the Bible and is the reward to those who diligently seek. God's mighty grace is available for His children to help them navigate the rots of this life, including addictions. Our dear leaders surely do not as yet have the solid answers. Answers we can rely on at all times and in all circumstances. These answers reside in the ENVIRONMENT of the Gospel of Christ.

June Gerber Relieve yourself at the cost of impure thoughts and bondage to emotional impulses? I agree strongly with what you said about pornography.. it’s a multi-billion industry that publicly endorses/funds the human trafficking epidemic and as Christians, we should be disgusted by this when are tempted to view pornography. But the greater issue stem from our thoughts, just as Jesus said. When you’re masturbating or watching porn, you are succumbing to thoughts you held leading up to that point. I cannot agree with anyone who says masturbation is not a sin because it’s so blatantly the manifestation of impure thoughts. Ultimately, lust takes multiple forms, and masturbation and pornography is one-and-one the same. Please don’t make masturbation the “loophole” to not watch pornography.. you’re setting people up for failure in their pursuit of purity.
I totally agree with him. I am walking this narrow path to freedom for several months now and I can recognise that it had a lot to do with my belief and what the world has impressed upon me regarding sexuality. I am finding total freedom in Christi alone

Your obedience to God out of love for God (John 14:15) is the key to your deliverance from any sin that you are bound in (Hebrews 5:9). I think John actually makes a good point. If the stakes are high enough, if we are desperate enough, we will trust in God that he can save us from the bondage of sexual lust. The fact is, having struggled with this for most of my life, I don’t always go to God. I don’t always fight. I don’t feel desperate enough to go to God. If I did on a daily basis, I’d beat this thing. I wholeheartedly believe that. Addiction is a spirit, but you can cast it off and break the chains. Believe God is stronger and really internalize that, and you can break those chains and live in freedom
Austin Hendel, I hope you are now living what you preached because it is on point. And God is waiting to have an agreement with you so He can act on your behalf. You can't be double-minded (James 4:8), especially if you understand the two ways you can be walking on (Matthew 7:13-14). We don't have time to be doing the devil's will, brother. We need to be doing God's will and be the light of the world now (Matthew 5:14-16) and then we will enter into eternal life (Matthew 19:17).
I think God for this message! I have been struggling with porn for over a year since I’ve realized it’s a problem that I haven’t been able to keep under control. And he’s completely right I have no self-control. I just do what I feel because I want to. I know it’s selfish and damaging for my spiritual well-being as well as my personal. I just don’t know how to navigate this season in my life

What I used to stop was renouncing the demon everytime it put it in my mind of any lust. I said "I rebuke the spirit of lust in the name of Jesus" "I rebuke you Satan in the name of Jesus" Then I'd speak scripture over it to be my shield. I'd say these 3 verses when I got the urge.... Indeed the spirit is willing and the flesh is weak, I can do anything in Christ who strengthens me, your word is my shield. This let me know his spirit is stronger than my fleshes desires, I can do anything with his help and speaking these verses are a legit shield in the spiritual realm against the demons. This is actually what I do for all thoughts that demons speak into my mind rather it be prideful, lustful, gluttony, envy, gossiping, hateful, anxiety, fearful and more. We're suppose to do this spiritual warefare but many chirstians don't realize this. I hope this helps❤🙏🏻
As a truck driver I definitely struggle with the lust. Porn ain't my thing. But to be a single man and seeing what women wear these days, (yoga pants, leggings and form fitting and revealing clothing) it gets harder and harder out here not to lust but I oftentimes catch myself and think about what Jesus said. "Whosoever look upon a woman to lust hath committed adultery with her in his heart already." God is bigger than any situation so keep me in your prayers everyone. I wanna see and live eternity with God our father.
I've had an extremely hard time trying to teach people about beliefs. Your beliefs shape your entire life. In my opinion, there should be a mandated course on it in schools. So many of my friends have self limiting beliefs and I've found it extremely difficult to teach them about how it's limiting their success in life. He absolutely nails it here. It's one of life's ultimate secrets. This man understands it too thank you for the upload.

First of all the bible does mention that masturbation is a sin, although it doesn’t mention the word itself. Your body was not made for self gratification and your sexual organs are not made for that they were made for reproducing. Second of all, you cannot say that because one watched pornography they are guilty of child pornography, of sex trafficking. That’s like me saying if you smoke and do drugs you are guilty of what the drug dealers do with the money you gave them. As Piper mentioned at the end, the problem is in what we believe. Many engage in the sin of lust because we do not truly understand the glory and majesty of our Lord. We do not have a reverential fear of Him. Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, look to the Lord and be in awe, read scripture and seek His beauty. All things, temptations and false promises of this world, will lose its effect and become worthless.

If you are in 100% agreement with God about doing his will for the rest of your life, you will become "dead to sin" as the Bible says (1 Peter 2:21-24, Romans 6:1-2, Romans 6:11): that is how you will be set free from sin. If you are dead to porn, then you will be walking in freedom and overcoming it as well as all other sins by the grace of God (Titus 2:11-14). That is different from being in a constant battle. You can be *once and for all* victorious in Jesus. It is important that you answer God's call to repentance the way the Bible teaches. You must sincerely regret having sinned against God, and come to the point of hearing and agreeing with Jesus' message saying, "I do not condemn you, now go and don't sin anymore" (John 8:11). Your obedience as you choose to follow God's ways is key. That opens the door to receiving his *forgiveness* for your past sins (Romans 3:25), *healing* (Luke 5:31-32), *freedom from sin/addictions* (John 8:34-36, Romans 6:4-7, Romans 6:14-18), and the gift of *a new life* that you will live for God and no longer for sin and the passing things of the world (Romans 6:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 6:15). That is salvation. You must submit to God. That is essential: James 4:7-8 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. He is absolutely right that it comes down to a belief. It's not a battle of having sexual desire vs not having sexual desire. It's a battle between the beliefs of "choosing to lust brings benefit" vs "choosing not to lust brings benefit".

This is very great comparison and examples used in explaining and expanding on the topic of sexual immorality and the addiction to such things. God is good my friends we can make it out of bondage and be healed only through trusting in Jesus and His word .💯
While pastor John is very wise and right to an extent, he obviously doesn't know how addiction works. An addict can temporarily say no to whatever it is they're addicted to if the reward is high enough or punishment severe enough but that doesn't change the fact that your mind and body have been conditioned to want and need that substance. That doesn't mean that saying no won't hurt and have withdrawal effects. Eventually withdrawals will occur. This happens with any addict to any substance whether it's drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography. Any addict who says no will have withdrawals after a while, that's why they eventually break down and come for more. Yes willpower has a lot to do with it but if your mind/body has been conditioned to need or want something it will want that something whether you fight it or not. I was a porn addict for nearly twenty years and there were plenty of times when I could for short periods of time resist the urges out of necessity but next chance I got, I went back to it. Any addict would say no temporarily to get 1 million dollars. But I promise you that after they get paid they're going right back to it. He has a point to a degree in what he says but it ultimately doesn't hold any weight against the medical science and research that has gone into studying and learning the REAL addictive affects of pornography on the human mind. Porn addiction is a real thing, whether you want to admit it or accept it or not is inconsequential to that fact. I believe u are trivializing the point he was making by concentrating on a perceived inaccuracy. The point he is making, IMHO, is spot on. One participates in these activities because the consequences or aftermath of such an act is not immediately apparent nor severe. Therefore, it can be said that the belief of the individual is what sustains or frees as individual from participation in the activities associated with Porn. He never claimed that there is no such thing as a porn or lust addiction but was speaking to the large majority of cases.
To me he is banging on a pulpit to try to somehow bang it out of people. I can understand and see people just making excuses saying they are sick or just addicted and have no choice or responsibility. I can agree we are still responsible for our choices even if we are addicted. I just don't see the point in him flying off into a rage over it. AND I agree with you: an orgasm is a pleasure producing thing that releases dopamine into a person's brain. It is going to condition a person's mind and carve neural pathways if they keep coming back to it over and over again. You see the same kind of stuff with drug addicts, a repetitive vicious cycle. It is going to take time to heal those ruts. Simply banging on a pulpit is not going to do the trick. Instant deliverance or a 12 step Celebrate Recovery group is the way to go. Or we can keep banging on pulpits until they turn to saw dust and ultimately nothing ever changes.
I’ve always struggled with the word “addiction” when it comes to non chemical dependency behaviors. No offense but the two examples he gave, cut throat or 1Mil cash could apply to any so called addiction, even if a chemical dependency, albeit temporary. A close friend of mine told me a true story last night. He advised a young kid, several years ago, who was suffering from nightmares. His advise was to sing praise and worship before going to bed and sing if he awakes from nightmares. Within a few days they disappeared. Sounds like good advise for any addiction.
The problem with this analogy is that addiction almost always masks itself as a lesser choice that seems oh so mundane. One small act won't hurt, will it? It is death by a thousand cuts or the frog in the kettle. Once we see it for what it is, we can begin to let go. But it takes honesty, community and the action steps of recovery to get there.

I love pastor Johns speaking, but in this case I think there is a misunderstanding of what addiction is. Many people beat addiction when the stakes are high enough, that doesn’t mean they were never addicted. If we don’t acknowledge that addiction is real how are we supposed to help those who suffer from it?
I have found that we must keep our minds on purpose at all times. A purpose for why you are alive today and for this life. Keep eternity in your eyes for what your purpose is. And know every day that this life is so short compared to that eternity. Every day we must know that we are going to die! And that this life is temporary. Just like when you’re working out, you know eventually that effort is going to stop and you will be stronger because of it. So know that every day is a workout to conquer sin. I’m in this with you brothers
I absolutely agree. I clicked on this video because I saw the title and it angered me. Porn addiction is REAL. There is a lot of research to back up the fact that using porn has very similar effects on the brain as using drugs does. Some would argue even worse effects, in some ways. I really don't appreciate the statement that porn addiction isn't real, just because we can overcome it. You know what else humans are capable of overcoming? Drug addiction. But we still recognize the addiction, because it's valid and important. Also, in some ways I would say a porn addict might not be able to completely overcome their addiction, in the same way that people who haven't touched a drink in years still call themselves alcoholics. You aren't going to see them in a bar, because they are addicts. For some people, barring a miracle, that might never fully go away. And ignoring that or pretending addiction isnt real is incredibly dangerous, and leads to complacency that could lead to relapse.

Anyone who says "no one is addicted to porn" has never been through it. I understand the sentiment and we are in the same boat that we need to live for God. But your message of "if you want it bad enough you will have self control", that premise can apply to any addiction, and surely you don't think there is no such thing as addictions? I think the message is understating this issue. Your "million dollar offer" example is only a temporary resistance. Regardless, as brothers & sisters in Christ, we all want out and to stop the sin.

I think the problem with a lot of counsel is, it focuses on the act of the sin (sex, masturbation, watching something, etc.) but doesn’t ever target the desire/lust behind it. What if it isn’t about the act but the driving desire behind it? What if we aren’t supposed to want it anymore? This is great counsel.

Thank you so much for this message. My mindset about this is that I want to be used by God to benefit others and if I am sinning in this way, God is less likely to choose me to play this important part in this world. Additionally, even if I do help someone I may not even feel God in it because sexual sin binds up my heart. I recommend the following: aerobic exercise, avoiding foods that can increase libido, attend an accountability group, prayer, memorizing God's word especially as it relates to sexual temptation and sin, praising God in music(spiritual lyrics going through one's mind is much healthier than worldly lyrics). When faced with sexual temptation, flee like Joseph did from Potiphar's wife.
John Smit, your thinking is correct. You need to have a well made up mind to be used by God. You can't have both God and sin competing in your heart for your affection/devotion. But as you remain in the light, you can be used by God to bring others to the light. So, do first things first. Get things right with God, then He will direct you. It won't be you carrying out ideas about how you think God may want to use you. Sure, your labor for God's kingdom is needed greatly (Luke 10:2), but as I said earlier, first things first. Draw near to God as He expects you to (James 1:21-22, James 4:8). And you will have much joy in serving God as your whole heart is his. At best Piper shows a misunderstanding of addiction. At worst he fails to validate the experience of the addict. I believe he is using a personal definition of addiction which only focuses on specific instances of temptation rather than looking at the over-all pattern. He speaks of isolated incidences where one can choose to abstain because the consequences would be so dire thus proving one cannot be really addicted. But addiction is not about never-ending and indefinite acting out regardless of the consequences at hand. When we talk about sexual addiction we are talking about coping mechanisms developed over time to ease life’s pains and hurts that the person feels he or she is unable to stop (opportune situations for acting out) despite destructive consequences. This complex psychophysiological process can manifest in sexual behaviors that are temporarily pleasurable or offer momentary relief in which a person soon craves, suffers negative consequences from, and has trouble giving up. Even if a person can give up the physical acting out (like in Piper’s exaggerated scenarios), those original hurts and pains are not resolved. An addict who has not processed his past is still an addict, regardless how long it has been since he acted out. I struggle with this so much. I'm 35 and never really had a relationship. And part of me feels like a loser for that and then part of me hates myself for looking at women so much. I have low self esteem. I don't think any woman would want a dork like me. All the girls I asked out in middle school to college years rejected me. Maybe my standards were higher than they should have been...but to this day I always think maybe if I would have got it out of my system in those years, maybe it wouldn't be as bad as it is today. Hi, from my perspective, how to defeat any sin is by separating feeling from words as you read a verse rebuking that particular sin. putting feeling aside momentarily or on mini pauses in the surge of feeling allows for the word to settle in - satisfying - hence breaking the urge or desire to go to the former feeling you had on pause so to speak.
I am addiction free and I have one piece of advice. You need to have a desire that is immovable. Dont listen to all these "mind tricks" because if you have to resort to tricks, you dont have a pure desire to change. For the first weeks where I had urges, I said "I am willing to die to live a virtous life." No matter the intensity of the urge I always said "If this kills me but it means I can live a clean life, so be it." When you are willing to DIE for a noble cause, your spirit kicks into a different level.
God requires a broken heart and contrite spirit.

I overcame pornography through Jesus, I kept praying and reading the word. Temptations are still there but I find it easier to flee from ❤️ 2 weeks ago I remember the temptation was so strong but then I switched to my Bible app then read a few verses and then prayed for the temptation to go away. Do not compromise, do not treat it as a little sin or it's okay, it'll seep in slowly if you do not act fiercely over that sin.

No food whatsoever, just water whenever I felt hungry or thirsty, an occasional pinch of salt to balance sodium (electrolytes), and a daily multivitamin.. It feels like you're about to die (but you're not lol). Your body will go into ketosis (battery saver mode) and burn fat for energy (best way to lose fat). The point of it is not starving yourself, but to say _"Lord, I need you. I desire your Word more than I desire to satisfy my body's cravings. Strengthen me; Deliver me"_ In these moments of denying our flesh and opening our hearts to God through *Prayer and Thanksgiving* , He speaks to us. He delivers us. So much truth. I watched porn several times a day from 12 to the age of 34. Did not exercise self control. I lost relationships, financial opportunities, nearly got arrested and expelled from university. Still didn't realize I had a problem. But the moment my wife left me, and I thought I would lose her if I kept watching, I refrained for over a month and my viewership cut by 90%. Since getting to know Christ, it's down by 99%, with the occasional lapse in judgment. It only happens when I fall for the enemy's lies. As I continue to increase my love, faith, and willpower in Jesus, I know he will completely deliver me from it.

I’m 26 years old and I got liberated not to long ago. I know how hard it is to stop. The “I’m not going to do it anymore” then falling back into old ways and then crying over the shame and guilt. What I started doing is the moment a thought pops in my head, or I look at a woman the wrong way, or a picture pops up on my phone, I ask God to renew my mind in the name of Jesus. The stronger the urge the louder and more times a repeat it. No joke this has helped me.

God delivered me from the gay lifestyle, porn, alcohol, drugs and cigarettes 10 years ago. I still have temptation with lust here and there but I rely on the Lord for strength to say no. We can’t do it without Him. I wouldn’t want to.

We have to learn to trust God to deliver us from this, this has to become our primary source of defense against pornography. Come before Him relying not on my own strength and wits, but acknowledging my weakness and asking his strength.
One thing that helped me in my worst moments struggling with lust was that I used to say to myself that
"I'm not going to hell because of porn/sex...I'm not going to miss being with God because of this"
I want to see and be with God one day, and I'm not going to exchange that for 70 years of sexual gratification - even with the most attractive women.

We are saved by grace, and that's important to remember. You're right, you will not go to hell because of lust or porn, no matter how many times you fail in those areas. Because your own ability to refrain from sin is not what guarantees your salvation. It's the work of Jesus that was finished on the cross. Do good and right by God because you love Him and want to please Him, not because you are worried about trying to earn your salvation.

I was talking with an older Christian friend who told me that after he was addicted for many years, and feeling like no amount of prayer would heal him, one morning he woke up and he said he knew that his addiction was cured, and he never feel again. After that testimony, I felt faith like I never felt before. That day I prayed to Jesus like I had so many times before, asking him to take my addiction to hell and to free me of this bond. The difference this time, I really believed that he could do it, I really believed I could surrender to him. I am 3 weeks clean at the time of writing this and have never had so much self control in my life. I still get temptation all the time but now I feel I have the strength in my Messiah to resist, and it definitely feels like the strength of another power, not my power, the healing power of Jesus. I feel like the woman who knew if she could just touch Jesus' cloak, she would be healed of her internal bleeding. Jesus said, "your faith has healed you". Have faith my brothers and sisters, faith in the One Saviour will heal a multitude of sins.
1 Corinthians 7 Paul states that he wished every Christian had the gift of sexual purity, but admits few do, so he advices those that do not to marry. Christ in Matthew 12:11 states the gift is given to few. If God healed you, great, but most of us will not get healing because Christ did not promise and on the contrary he said the opposite. So I would think people need to chill over this, the blood of Christ was shed for this sin, and that is sufficient for those of us that cannot stop watching porn.

I really want to help you, but the victory over sin is only possible, when Jesus is our lord.
"For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." (Romans 6,14)
So that's the first and most important question: Did you ever repent and come to christ as a lost sinner, who needs the lord? Do you know about that specific time in your life, when christ called you into his grace?
These things have to be clear first.
"For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Romans 8, 3-4)

The first action of overcoming lust is acknowledging that it is a sin. One tip to turn away from lust is to be aware of the things you see online. Sometimes even though you don't want to see things that trigger lust, it comes up as ads or retweets on twitter.
I honestly stop using twitter due to this reason. Evil can easily slide its way to your attention.
Second of all, I am proud that everyone here is being honest with themselves and to the people that saw each comment. Letting other people know about your struggle helps you realize that it is something that will never benefit your life in general. You may not know but they might have similar struggles as you do.

In my life I've found power and victory over lust grows more and more as I grow as a person. For example, when I realized there really is a spiritual battle and that it was satan who convinced me I was a loser, I grew a little, he could no longer oppress me with that lie. Or when God showed me that I have already been set free from sin, I grew a little more because I realized I didn't have to give in to temptation. Or when I stopped believing that God was gonna take away all temptation from my life so that there would never be a temptation ever again - like God was going to totally and instantly transform my heart all at once because I prayed about it- when I stopped believing that lie and realized that there will always be a fight, but a fight i could win with God's strategies, (because my own strategies were not working) I grew some more and the power of lust grew weaker still. It goes on and on like this. Step by step as we grow.

I believed I was a slave to sexual sin and porn for 20 years until I understood Paul in Romans saying I am not longer a slave (we who were baptised to Christ), and the true cost of continued choice of this sin was eternal punishment. I didn't understand that I could be free and that I must be free. It has been almost four years since I have learned this and God has helped me overcome this and I walk in freedom since (almost four years now). Praise God. The stakes are too high to ignore, and the freedom is available to all who are born again of water and spirit. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ! I don't know what would have happened if I died five years ago, but I'm not willing to find out now!

@@rjhorn1 First of all, are you born again? Have you repented towards God of your old life of sin and been baptized to Jesus for the washing away of your sins? Have you received the gift of the Holy Spirit who helps you walk in the new life you have been given? Read Acts 2. Romans says if we have died with Christ (baptism) then we are no longer slaves but have been set free, but warns us even though we are now free not to think we are unable to go back to our sins and suffer the eternal consequences. This bred a healthy fear of God and unwillingness to turn from Him and loose it all. There are far too many warnings to the saints about the dangers of continuing to choose sin and being cut off from Christ. I obey Jesus because I love him and I fear him, and he has given me his Holy Spirit to walk in victory. He has done everything and given me everything necessary to walk as He wants. He did not come just to cover sin but to remove it!
My eternal does not depend on whether I watch porn or not, thank God. Your expounding poor theology, if you trust in stopping porn for your salvation instead of the blood of Christ, you my brother have a problem. You are correct that the Christian is no longer a slave to sin as Paul says in Romans 6, but Paul also says in Romans 7 that there is another law in the members of our body and that when we sin it is no longer I that do it but sin that dwells in me. Do not confuse being a slave to righteousness with not having indwelling sin in us that we all have.

Basically the way lust works is on the anxieties/guilt. The more you feel worse due to it, the worse it makes you feel, and the more it makes you crave lust. I will respectfully say this is the exact type of talk that makes it harder for people that are addicted to pornography. The analogies you gave doesn't display self control, but they are momentarily controlled by something that is stronger than their addiction. Once out of the situation, it will be back. I am a child of God and what I had to learn after years of struggling is what was really going on in my brain. Porn addition needs to be treated as such.

Part of the destruction in addiction lies in the delusion that one is in complete control, while simultaneously destroying one's life by temporarily yielding, or readily embracing, the object of one's lust--despite knowing the Truth. Granted, a 5-minute clip lacks context, but I see this message offering little encouragement to struggling people. Regardless, hope for deliverance lies In the Lord Jesus Christ through the renewing of the mind by the Word of God.

Well, there it is. I’ve struggled with this sin for years, but the pastor’s argument is solid. I need to put on my big boy pants and say no. Because, in the end, the stakes are very high. I am a recovering alcoholic and I know real addiction. There was a time I’d give up my family for a drink. I know this because I did it. I cannot truthfully say that I’d give up my family at the end of the day for the sake of porn. So, I do have control over it. This revelation is not condemning, it is freeing. I can do something about this terrible perversion of somebody’s daughter or sister or mother or friend. My God is a big God. He can set me free if I am willing. I am willing. I declare, in Jesus name, that I am able.

It’s awesome to see that ministries are being raised up to help those in the stronghold of porn and The Lord is pleased for us to stand together in unity to battle perhaps the greatest hidden sin of the days we live in. Not giving in to sin is a powerful thing. When you get the urges, even if you feel them, it is far more "dignified" to feel yet not let it control you. Feelings come and go. But acts... they are what defines us and our willpower. We sometimes can't control our lust. But we can control whether or not we act on it. If we can keep it in our minds that acting on it is bad for us and will shatter our dignity and honor, and if in those moments we CHOOSE not to crumble under desire (and it IS a choice, no one's forcing you to do it, you make the choice to do it because it feels good) the feelings will pass, and we won't feel guilty (at least I don't, feeling lust vs acting on it is worlds apart in terms of how it makes you feel later on). When you get desires, accept them, let them do what they want in your body, don't act on them, and they will pass. When you sin, you choose to obey them, you WANT to obey them in a way, because it feels good to give in at that moment. Once you realize that it is your choice, you will be set free. It is YOUR choice to seek God. It is YOUR choice not to act on your feelings. There isn't a force in the world that can make you sin, there are only forces that can CHARM you into sinning, and you WILLINGLY fall for it.
I am porn free for quite some time now, don’t really count anymore. There’s no need to count. I’ll never look back. I am morally repulsed by it. I remember when I watched this video the first time it brought tears to my eyes. It is what we believe. And that’s why there’s people out there trying to tell us what to believe , especially in regards to pornography.

The horrible thing about lust and pornography, is that it gets to a point where it so consumes you that not only do you want to stop but can't, but it also reaches a point where "regular" pornography doesn't satisfy you anymore. Its like drinking cyanide, you know it's going to kill you but you just can't stop. I was introduced to all of that at a very young age and it's had a hold of me my entire life up to this point.

There is only one source of genuine self-control. It comes as fruit of the Spirit. It does not come as a result of being frightened momentarily by one incident or the other. The question then is - what is it to walk in the Spirit and exhibit this fruit, as prescribed in the book of Galatians? The answer to this is very clear in the Bible and is the reward to those who diligently seek. God's mighty grace is available for His children to help them navigate the rots of this life, including addictions. Our dear leaders surely do not as yet have the solid answers. Answers we can rely on at all times and in all circumstances. These answers reside in the ENVIRONMENT of the Gospel of Christ.

June Gerber Relieve yourself at the cost of impure thoughts and bondage to emotional impulses? I agree strongly with what you said about pornography.. it’s a multi-billion industry that publicly endorses/funds the human trafficking epidemic and as Christians, we should be disgusted by this when are tempted to view pornography. But the greater issue stem from our thoughts, just as Jesus said. When you’re masturbating or watching porn, you are succumbing to thoughts you held leading up to that point. I cannot agree with anyone who says masturbation is not a sin because it’s so blatantly the manifestation of impure thoughts. Ultimately, lust takes multiple forms, and masturbation and pornography is one-and-one the same. Please don’t make masturbation the “loophole” to not watch pornography.. you’re setting people up for failure in their pursuit of purity.

Take some time to understand well the way you need to approach God. Your obedience to God out of love for God (John 14:15) is the key to your deliverance from any sin that you are bound in (Hebrews 5:9).
We need to learn from Jesus and follow his example (1 Peter 2:21-24). That will not lead us to sin but to break free from sin and also not return to it (John 8:31-36, 1 John 3:6).

I think John actually makes a good point. If the stakes are high enough, if we are desperate enough, we will trust in God that he can save us from the bondage of sexual lust. The fact is, having struggled with this for most of my life, I don’t always go to God. I don’t always fight. I don’t feel desperate enough to go to God. If I did on a daily basis, I’d beat this thing. I wholeheartedly believe that. Addiction is a spirit, but you can cast it off and break the chains. Believe God is stronger and really internalize that, and you can break those chains and live in freedom

Austin Hendel, I hope you are now living what you preached because it is on point. And God is waiting to have an agreement with you so He can act on your behalf. You can't be double-minded (James 4:8), especially if you understand the two ways you can be walking on (Matthew 7:13-14). We don't have time to be doing the devil's will, brother. We need to be doing God's will and be the light of the world now (Matthew 5:14-16) and then we will enter into eternal life (Matthew 19:17).

And he’s completely right I have no self-control. I just do what I feel because I want to. I know it’s selfish and damaging for my spiritual well-being as well as my personal. What I used to stop was renouncing the demon everytime it put it in my mind of any lust. I said "I rebuke the spirit of lust in the name of Jesus" "I rebuke you Satan in the name of Jesus" Then I'd speak scripture over it to be my shield. I'd say these 3 verses when I got the urge.... Indeed the spirit is willing and the flesh is weak, I can do anything in Christ who strengthens me, your word is my shield. This let me know his spirit is stronger than my fleshes desires, I can do anything with his help and speaking these verses are a legit shield in the spiritual realm against the demons. This is actually what I do for all thoughts that demons speak into my mind rather it be prideful, lustful, gluttony, envy, gossiping, hateful, anxiety, fearful and more. We're suppose to do this spiritual warefare but many chirstians don't realize this. I hope this helps❤🙏🏻

As a truck driver I definitely struggle with the lust. Porn ain't my thing. But to be a single man and seeing what women wear these days, (yoga pants, leggings and form fitting and revealing clothing) it gets harder and harder out here not to lust but I oftentimes catch myself and think about what Jesus said. "Whosoever look upon a woman to lust hath committed adultery with her in his heart already." God is bigger than any situation so keep me in your prayers everyone. I wanna see and live eternity with God our father.

I've had an extremely hard time trying to teach people about beliefs. Your beliefs shape your entire life. In my opinion, there should be a mandated course on it in schools. So many of my friends have self limiting beliefs and I've found it extremely difficult to teach them about how it's limiting their success in life. He absolutely nails it here. It's one of life's ultimate secrets. This man understands it too thank you for the upload.

First of all the bible does mention that masturbation is a sin, although it doesn’t mention the word itself. Your body was not made for self gratification and your sexual organs are not made for that they were made for reproducing. Second of all, you cannot say that because one watched pornography they are guilty of child pornography, of sex trafficking. That’s like me saying if you smoke and do drugs you are guilty of what the drug dealers do with the money you gave them. As Piper mentioned at the end, the problem is in what we believe. Many engage in the sin of lust because we do not truly understand the glory and majesty of our Lord. We do not have a reverential fear of Him.

You need to repent so a new life can come from you coming into 100% agreement with God about what's good and what is evil and that you need to turn away from. If you're still enjoying porn, then you are not showing to God that you want to quit it for good. Now, if you do hate it, you will stop watching it out of your own free will to do that. You will probably suffer for not giving in to the temptation to watch porn and that is normal. No pain no gain. That is the cost you pay or the sacrifice you make out of love for God if you want to live for God and please God.

If you are in 100% agreement with God about doing his will for the rest of your life, you will become "dead to sin" as the Bible says (1 Peter 2:21-24, Romans 6:1-2, Romans 6:11): that is how you will be set free from sin. If you are dead to porn, then you will be walking in freedom and overcoming it as well as all other sins by the grace of God (Titus 2:11-14). That is different from being in a constant battle. You can be *once and for all* victorious in Jesus.
It is important that you answer God's call to repentance the way the Bible teaches. While pastor John is very wise and right to an extent, he obviously doesn't know how addiction works. An addict can temporarily say no to whatever it is they're addicted to if the reward is high enough or punishment severe enough but that doesn't change the fact that your mind and body have been conditioned to want and need that substance. That doesn't mean that saying no won't hurt and have withdrawal effects. Eventually withdrawals will occur. This happens with any addict to any substance whether it's drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography. Any addict who says no will have withdrawals after a while, that's why they eventually break down and come for more. Yes willpower has a lot to do with it but if your mind/body has been conditioned to need or want something it will want that something whether you fight it or not. I was a porn addict for nearly twenty years and there were plenty of times when I could for short periods of time resist the urges out of necessity but next chance I got, I went back to it. Any addict would say no temporarily to get 1 million dollars. But I promise you that after they get paid they're going right back to it. He has a point to a degree in what he says but it ultimately doesn't hold any weight against the medical science and research that has gone into studying and learning the REAL addictive affects of pornography on the human mind. Porn addiction is a real thing, whether you want to admit it or accept it or not is inconsequential to that fact. I used to be addicted to porn so you can't sit here and tell me it's not a real thing. The arrogance.....

I believe u are trivializing the point he was making by concentrating on a perceived inaccuracy. The point he is making, IMHO, is spot on. One participates in these activities because the consequences or aftermath of such an act is not immediately apparent nor severe. Therefore, it can be said that the belief of the individual is what sustains or frees as individual from participation in the activities associated with Porn. He never claimed that there is no such thing as a porn or lust addiction but was speaking to the large majority of cases.

To me he is banging on a pulpit to try to somehow bang it out of people. I can understand and see people just making excuses saying they are sick or just addicted and have no choice or responsibility. I can agree we are still responsible for our choices even if we are addicted. I just don't see the point in him flying off into a rage over it. AND I agree with you: an orgasm is a pleasure producing thing that releases dopamine into a person's brain. It is going to condition a person's mind and carve neural pathways if they keep coming back to it over and over again. You see the same kind of stuff with drug addicts, a repetitive vicious cycle. It is going to take time to heal those ruts. Simply banging on a pulpit is not going to do the trick. Instant deliverance or a 12 step Celebrate Recovery group is the way to go. Or we can keep banging on pulpits until they turn to saw dust and ultimately nothing ever changes.
I’ve always struggled with the word “addiction” when it comes to non chemical dependency behaviors.
No offense but the two examples he gave, cut throat or 1Mil cash could apply to any so called addiction, even if a chemical dependency, albeit temporary.
A close friend of mine told me a true story last night. He advised a young kid, several years ago, who was suffering from nightmares. His advise was to sing praise and worship before going to bed and sing if he awakes from nightmares. Within a few days they disappeared.
Sounds like good advise for any addiction.

The problem with this analogy is that addiction almost always masks itself as a lesser choice that seems oh so mundane. One small act won't hurt, will it? It is death by a thousand cuts or the frog in the kettle. Once we see it for what it is, we can begin to let go. But it takes honesty, community and the action steps of recovery to get there.

Many people beat addiction when the stakes are high enough, that doesn’t mean they were never addicted. If we don’t acknowledge that addiction is real how are we supposed to help those who suffer from it?

I absolutely agree. I clicked on this video because I saw the title and it angered me. Porn addiction is REAL. There is a lot of research to back up the fact that using porn has very similar effects on the brain as using drugs does. Some would argue even worse effects, in some ways. I really don't appreciate the statement that porn addiction isn't real, just because we can overcome it. You know what else humans are capable of overcoming? Drug addiction. But we still recognize the addiction, because it's valid and important.
Also, in some ways I would say a porn addict might not be able to completely overcome their addiction, in the same way that people who haven't touched a drink in years still call themselves alcoholics. You aren't going to see them in a bar, because they are addicts. For some people, barring a miracle, that might never fully go away. And ignoring that or pretending addiction isnt real is incredibly dangerous, and leads to complacency that could lead to relapse.

Anyone who says "no one is addicted to porn" has never been through it. I understand the sentiment and we are in the same boat that we need to live for God. But your message of "if you want it bad enough you will have self control", that premise can apply to any addiction, and surely you don't think there is no such thing as addictions? I think the message is understating this issue. Your "million dollar offer" example is only a temporary resistance. Regardless, as brothers & sisters in Christ, we all want out and to stop the sin.

Take some time to understand well the way you need to approach God. Your obedience to God out of love for God (John 14:15) is the key to your deliverance from any sin that you are bound in (Hebrews 5:9). That is what the grace of God leads you to (Titus 2:11-14).
We need to learn from Jesus and follow his example. That will not lead us to sin but to break free from sin and also not return to it (John 8:31-36, 1 John 3:6).

I think the problem with a lot of counsel is, it focuses on the act of the sin (sex, masturbation, watching something, etc.) but doesn’t ever target the desire/lust behind it.
What if it isn’t about the act but the driving desire behind it? What if we aren’t supposed to want it anymore?

Thank you so much for this message. My mindset about this is that I want to be used by God to benefit others and if I am sinning in this way, God is less likely to choose me to play this important part in this world. Additionally, even if I do help someone I may not even feel God in it because sexual sin binds up my heart.
I recommend the following: aerobic exercise, avoiding foods that can increase libido, attend an accountability group, prayer, memorizing God's word especially as it relates to sexual temptation and sin, praising God in music(spiritual lyrics going through one's mind is much healthier than worldly lyrics). When faced with sexual temptation, flee like Joseph did from Potiphar's wife.
John Smit, your thinking is correct. You need to have a well made up mind to be used by God. You can't have both God and sin competing in your heart for your affection/devotion. But as you remain in the light, you can be used by God to bring others to the light. So, do first things first. Get things right with God, then He will direct you. It won't be you carrying out ideas about how you think God may want to use you. Sure, your labor for God's kingdom is needed greatly (Luke 10:2), but as I said earlier, first things first. Draw near to God as He expects you to (James 1:21-22, James 4:8). And you will have much joy in serving God as your whole heart is his. At best Piper shows a misunderstanding of addiction. At worst he fails to validate the experience of the addict. I believe he is using a personal definition of addiction which only focuses on specific instances of temptation rather than looking at the over-all pattern.
He speaks of isolated incidences where one can choose to abstain because the consequences would be so dire thus proving one cannot be really addicted. But addiction is not about never-ending and indefinite acting out regardless of the consequences at hand. When we talk about sexual addiction we are talking about coping mechanisms developed over time to ease life’s pains and hurts that the person feels he or she is unable to stop (opportune situations for acting out) despite destructive consequences. This complex psychophysiological process can manifest in sexual behaviors that are temporarily pleasurable or offer momentary relief in which a person soon craves, suffers negative consequences from, and has trouble giving up. Even if a person can give up the physical acting out (like in Piper’s exaggerated scenarios), those original hurts and pains are not resolved. An addict who has not processed his past is still an addict, regardless how long it has been since he acted out. In the end, sex addiction is never about sex; it is about learned behavior to medicate pain. If one really wants to find freedom then that past pain and hurt must be healed. Simply stopping the behavior will not stop the problem.
Struggled for a 20 yrs . Finally decided to choose to make my spirit strong and . Spend a hour in the morning praying and reading and it’s quieted my lust way down and freed me . I thought to myself ...We make sure we feed our bodies everyday so our flesh is strong why not put the same priority for our spirit . I can live no other way now . To slack up on that hour is to return to lust . It’s inevitable . Guess the question is “ have you got bottom yet ?” For me it is yes .

I struggle with this so much. I'm 35 and never really had a relationship. And part of me feels like a loser for that and then part of me hates myself for looking at women so much. I have low self esteem. I don't think any woman would want a dork like me. All the girls I asked out in middle school to college years rejected me. Maybe my standards were higher than they should have been...but to this day I always think maybe if I would have got it out of my system in those years, maybe it wouldn't be as bad as it is today. I don't know.

Yes, but either way a bait has been taken, and the sinner is a slave who will do the will of his master (the sin itself - John 8:34, Romans 6:16). Hi, from my perspective, how to defeat any sin is by separating feeling from words as you read a verse rebuking that particular sin. putting feeling aside momentarily or on mini pauses in the surge of feeling allows for the word to settle in - satisfying - hence breaking the urge or desire to go to the former feeling you had on pause so to speak.
