If I'm the owners, and this league has never made money... Not even this yr, where the league lost $40 million... I just shut the league down... No more losing money... No more dealing with super-entitled players... No more none of that... Just shut it down and let them try to run their own league.

When you look up "hypocrisy" in the dictionary, there is a new example in the definition: WNBPA. At best they stood silently by all season as players who are card carrying members of the WNBPA hated on CC, cheap shotted her and even tried to gouge her eye out and then blamed her for the backlash that arose from their hate. But now they have the audacity to put up her numbers, her sold out arenas, her sold out merchandise and lay claim to it to demand more money. Absolutely disgusting.

    • @MGAF688

Agreed. They are in a not-for-profit league where the owners absorb millions in losses every year for PR purposes. Why? The owners want to appear woke enough so that it has a benefit to the NBA. "We care about women's professional basketball so much that we'll fund it at a loss." None of the owners would take this measure if they didn't have the ability to cover their WNBA losses with their NBA profits. Are there any WNBA teams NOT owned by an NBA owner (or adjoining professional sports owner since Las Vegas Aces doesn't have an NBA franchise and is owned by the Raiders owners)???

This isn’t worth debating until actual numbers are made public. Otherwise the conversation will just be about longstanding gender issues in society rather than the actual performance of the sport as a product.
No one is questioning the talent or effort, but if you are asking for more when ownership is not taking in a profit, you are likely going to be out of a job. If the owners are withholding more than they let on then all the power to the players in this move. But trying to debate this as it is right now is a futile exercise.

Well, a generalization that applies to the WNBA. But there are many women who do actually care about facts. Most of them won't watch the disaster called the WNBA because of substandard performance. The NBA is slowly returning to the state of unwatchable just as it was in the 70s. Caitlan Clark is the "Larry Bird" 9f the WNBA. She made it watchable.

Marvin Miller and Donald Fehr... neither one ever played a pitch in MLB... they were.. lawyers... and they understood profit and loss.... same with the NFL.. though they are no longer a union... still.. strides won but without players thinking they know better... WNBA... leader.. an active player... everyone in leadership are players.. they don't want to see the other side... only their own. Defining moment... yup... Death of the WNBA.... You can't demand more until the owners are in the black.. and right now..the only ones in the black are the players.... the owners are losing money. that's called in the red. If there was a team that made money, it would have been the Fever.. because had butts in the seats... where the rest of them chased fans away... this entire league is full of players who look at the NBA and think they should have the same deal... except, if they did that with the % of revenue.. I'm betting some players would be playing for McDonalds in the 80's wages...
