You two are just the best ! I enjoy your videos so much. I just got my first adv bike, a Suzuki vstrom 1050. The heritage softail doesn't like off asphalt very much. Chris, you rocked that ride. No pun intended. Well maybe a little. Haha.
Those guys had the patience of saints. Like they said, your bikes aren't designed for this harsh of a terrain. Even experienced Jay had a problem. Chris you did great! It's an accomplishment you both should be proud of on heavy bikes, not like theirs. I probably would have had a few drinks back at camp, to try to ease what had to be a bunch of tired and sore muscles. Great job to both of you, and those excellent people that you were with. Thanks for sharing. Jayman...
My hats off to both of you for this adventure! That "road" reminds me of going up through Nothern Quebec and on through Labrador on what they called the Labrador Through Way (its not paved). You pick up a satellite phone from the RCMP in case you break down or crash and return it when you're back in civilization (no joke). This was a trip of a lifetime but I would never do it again till they pave it. Great Vlog. Stay Safe, Stay Well, and Keep Two Wheels on the Ground!!!
All in a day in Adventure riding. You already know. There is a reason your guides are riding smaller displacement bikes. Big diff. You already know the Beamers are great super slab and fine gravel road machines. It’s washed-out eroded rough stuff that takes the finesses gained from experience from rides like these. Awesome stuff and nice riding nonetheless. Ride safe and ride often.
Very true, it is one of the reasons that I downsized to a KTM 390 Adventure. Still not the unicorn, but much easier to handle in the tough stuff, and MUCH easier to pick up if you drop it.
That RiverRoad just seems to go on forever. The hills coming out of the draws, covered by babyheads, are exhausting on a big bike. They really wear you down, and the more tired you get, the harder they are. It's so nice when you finally hit that pavement. And you're right, nobodies coming out to rescue you. You just have to keep pushing on. The 1250 is just to big/heavy for that ride. Job well done!!
Kudos for documenting this! Sometimes I have a hard time documenting on video when things go bad. I love your new set up. I'm still cruiser riding pulling a trailer. Maybe someday the funds will get there.
Chris, this will sound silly but you can put black electrical tape across the top of your face shield and it will act like a visor. I run two strips along the top of mine. Got this trick from a RyanF9 video.
I give you guys a lot of credit. I started out with an on-off road Honda SL175 50 years ago. I might have tried a road like this 50 years ago on my little SL175, but not now. I sit very comfortably on my Heritage Softail Classic and I avoid dirt roads. If someone told me we were going on a 51 mile dirt path through the mountains, I'd tell them "I'll meet you at the other end". You guys hung in there the whole way and have an accomplishment to brag about. That is very cool! Another great video. Keep up the good work.
Awesome video. We were just there in the Jeep in January. That is some beautiful country. I also have a KTM 390 Adventure that I would love to take there. I think after watching your video, I would leave my big bike at home. Chris was a trooper, as she had to pick up that bike a few times. Keep up the great content and ride safe!
I have been riding that stuff for 45 years and that’s a challenge on a big bike. More off road bias tires would have helped but, still a great video. Don’t give up on those big beemers! Remember when riding those adventure bikes, it’s not if you fall but when!
I have been riding dirt my whole life and run TKC 80's on my GS. Makes a Big Difference. If you are going to keep riding that kind of terrain look at changing to more aggressive dirt tires like Mike said. They aren't bad on the street either.
Absolute congratulations on finishing what you started, what a tough journey. Enjoyed watching you ride what I thought I wanted to do some 20 years ago...LOL!
Chris you did extremely well on that ride and I admire you 100% for doing it! I wish that you could show us the "uncut version"! I guess you would have been better if you had the proper tires, even Rich was running TKC 70's, which is why he got away with driving hard compacted sand and small rocks but remember he is a big man and that helps. And if you had lowered the pressure in your tire it would have helped some! I am no expert at riding but I have been on GS since 1981 and travelled the world but again I admire you for taking that difficult trip! I love your videos and maybe we'll meet somewhere on the road this summer. Ciao
Much respect! Especially to you you chris. I'm a grown man, and dont think I would have done it. I love to ride, but that's a little much for me. So for you all to do that....AWESOME!!
My friends and I just got back from trying that road at the end of April. We ended up turning back. There were three of us, and we had a tiger 1200, a ktm 1290 and a harley pan america. We all decided that's a road for smaller bikes, for certain.
@@TwoWheelsBigLife , you can do it all paved and still get the experience of all the beauty. We did, Presideo to Chihuahua, Then to Creel, then to Batopilas.Three days down.
I rode River Rode in December by myself on my Africa Twin Adventure Bike, I was incredibly proud I didn’t drop it one time, no one I told understood why that was a big deal. Most people said “Well, I would hope you didn’t drop your bike” You can’t understand that road until you ride it.
Yep! Great job to both if you.. I have an Africa Twin and will not go in places like that, they cost too much to be tearing them up.. maybe I'm just to old.. but I do have a dirt bike as well.. it would be great for that.
That looked tough. Good on ya both for pushing through! Steep off-road hills (for me) are easiest when hit with enough speed and momentum to carry me to the top without braking or too much throttle. Easy on a 250 lb dirt bike but it takes a lot of skill and guts to do it on a bigger, much heavier bike. You guys are great!
Yep!! Been there, done that. River road was the most technical road we road down there. Glad we did it but it was brutal. I was on my Yamaha Super Tenere 1200, about the same weight as the BMW's, and was wishing i was on my KLR 650. Lighter is better!! Glad yall did it and made it safely. Enjoyed the ride and be safe.
Well done you two, looks like a lot of fun, mixed with pushing your limits as riders. Chris very inspirational and your skill level is amazing, don't ever doubt yourself!!
Looking at both of your tires….you really need 50/50 road/dirt tires, not worn down ADV tires (front is the most important because it’s the one that causes the bike to either stay up or go down). Also you experienced why so many newbies with little technical riding off road who buy big heavy bikes most of the time sell them immediately after experiencing what you did today….so kudos for powering thru….next time sit way back on your seat when you’re plowing thru soft sand (more body weight directly over your rear power wheel helps so much.
My helmet is OFF to you folks for that ride. WoW! You ventured through it all and still came out smiling…tired (exhausted), but smiling at what you accomplished. So happy the you have knowledgeable riders with you for their expertise and muscle. Stay safe. 21 more days until Spring.
Richard's right, you are a BAD ASS, Chris!!! I could hear how exhausted you were and I was cheering on Gus as the other guy road him up the hill. I noted in the sneak peak the "Hoka Hey" shirt, my friend Gopher rides in that challenge. You both deserve a nice steak dinner and some rest after that ride :)
Wow! Now that was one challenging ride. Nicely done, no quit, you stayed stubborn. Hope you kicked backed and had a cold one (or two) when you got back to camp. Keep the vids coming, enjoying your Texas adventures.
In my opinion, My side of the screen is the best way to enjoy this adventure and a reminder to keep 4 wheels under me when I do go on a real adventure like this!!! I really did enjoy your video and admire you for taking on a major challenge.
Miss Chris, My wife and I are so envious. We want to start doing what you are doing. Just a hint of something to try, put blue 1” or 1 1/2” painters tape on the inside top of your visors for sun block. Been doing it for years, works great, If ever in the RGV please look us up Pastor Tom and Dominique Hicks First Baptist, San Juan Texas. Just outside of McAllen
The GS1250 isn’t an easy bike to handle as it is very top heavy. Just glad you didn’t get hurt. Thanks for sharing what many go through the first time on serious off road travels.
Wow what a killer day you all had. Glad you got through it. You know the burrows from your sneak peek would have made those ridiculous hills easier. Great video.
Great job you two! Chris, hats off to you. Fantastic job! I took an off road class with that same bike, it was fun as all get out but at the end I was done. I laughed and smiled all the way home. I now ride a Suzie V- Strom 650. Have had it off road a few times and loved every minute. Enjoy and be safe!
You are finding out what we did - big bikes are a challenge on rough tracks and even more so as we get older! We opted for G310GS bikes and they are plenty heavy after you have dropped them & picked them up 5 times in a day!!
Chris, you're a badass not because of your tenacity, but because of your ability to keep smiling thru difficult adventures. We'd love to see the "clean-up" "wash-off" video! The dust had dust on it!!! How thick were the steaks after that ride!!? We're going to stick to the blacktop when we get out there. Thanks for taking us along! Brendan & Lena
Now that’s what those adventure bikes are made for!!! Awesome footage you guys amaze me! Way to go Chris! Time for some knobby tires so you can do more of this!!
@@TwoWheelsBigLife Yes, you guys are good riders, you can learn better off road skills. It takes practice. I have been riding dirt most of my life. I ride a WR 250 R, and go places on it, I wd never think about on a big bike. It is tall, and has a narrow seat. You may think about that, something smaller, it makes off roading less intimidating and more fun. Don't give up !! The adventure begins where the asphalt ends !!
Wowzers. EPIC. my New Favorite video. no not being Biased at all lol. Yall did Amazing and i bet when you ever return and ride it again it will be smooth as butter for yall.
I learned years ago that 10 miles off road is equivalent to 50 on road. Even with proper training, those bikes are a handful to most anyone. Glad when my g310gs will be arriving at my dealer. Much lighter and cheaper. You two are awesome to tackle and complete this ride. You'll sleep good tonight., and be stiff tomorrow.!! 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋♂️
Damn Chris!!!!! if you could see my up here in western Canada bowing and tipping my hat to YOU for just trying it. My Army training instructor always said every shitty day makes up for all good days you got away with for free 🤷♂️🤷♂️. Hats off to you just for giving it a shot ADV bikes that big and heavy would be tough. "Gave up once" nah, girl. You tried, and found it was beyond your skill set. That isn't giving up, that's knowing your limits. It's like Richard said, you are a badass! Richard too! Yeah, you went down a couple times, but you rode the pile of dirt! That's hella badass! I hope one day I can ride as good as y'all. My husband and I watch your channel together and we dream of one day doing what y'all are doing. Rock on!
Awsome episode. Good call on removing the hard cases. I had a low speed controlled drop with my AT in beach sand and i still ended up twisting the case a little.
When you said 50mi. of dirt road, i thought "oh shit". And especially on the weight class bike's that you have. And that's before I viewed the shit-load of rock's. My hat's off to both of you, but especially Chris as most women do not have the upper body strength of a man. She certainly make's up for it mentally as this type of riding require's a lot of mental. Congratulation to you both: you have my upmost respect. Illinois, USA
Awsome job Chris. I think you had 1 less drop than Richard :-) Bet both of you were exhausted. Now.. where's that nearest BMW dealer for some serious maintenance ;-).. Love your videos.
Best part about it all, nobody broke any bones. I have to admit I did get a good laugh at your expense only because I did the same thing when I was way much younger and had to learn too.
Isn’t it lovely when people are happy to share their skills and ride at “learner’s” pace, well done those guys. And the 2 of you learnt heaps and hopefully had some fun! Loved this video and the scenery was gorgeous :)
Awww - look dirt naps...get use to that in this environment...sending smoke signals...so normal - ha!!!! Did you have it in Enduro Pro or Enduro setting - also suspension setting set at MAX - give you better clearance....also may think of different mirrors if you continue your adventure of off-road - ha!!! Looking like GS's - getting dirty....nice!!!!.....Pretty nice at least you didn't destroy your clutch like I did last weekend in mud going up a mountain...ha!!! Great Stuff - you guys did well for not doing much of this stuff!!!!!
I must commend you on your editing skills, zero swearing or cursing in the video. My GoPro would have captured 100s if I rode that route! A big CONGRATS to you both on another excellent adventure!!
I'll be there next weekend for "Around The Bend". Can't wait. Nice job getting out of your comfort zone. Takes some guts to ride that stuff on a big bike.
Chris and Richard I have followed you since you first started, this is the first vlog I haven’t enjoyed. I admire you both for tackling this ride and you both did an awesome ride but it was too nerve racking for me to enjoy worrying that you would get seriously hurt. I hope you didnt have too many bruises the next day. From Australia.
Wow! You guys rock for getting through that! I’m glad you videoed it so that I don’t get the crazy idea of ever going on those roads with any vehicle, lol! The scenery was nice but oh my! The wild horses were amazed at you too.
Always amazes me how experienced riders take those who are not ready or don't have the proper equipment on these rides. Anyone on the size of bike you have would not tackle these routes. Scars are your rewards I guess!
I have lots of respect for your bravery to take on these roads. I know they are not easy especially on a big bike. But you have a great attitude and that is what makes or breaks you respect ✊🏽
Wow that was a rough trail but thumps up to you two for doing it that would be to much for a old guy like me especially on my gold wing lol take care I enjoyed watching hope your bikes and you guys are OK ride safe
This was one of your all time best videos! Excellent job pushing through that very difficult ride where giving up was not an option. Take care you two 🤘🏻😎🇺🇸
Next time try some off road tires and less weight on the bike... I ride my GS 1200 since 2013 ( 40000 miles on it) . Tires are the best "tuning " for the GS ;) Ride on friends !!
Adventure/off-road riding is an acquired skill and acquired taste. Good on you two for seeing it through and for sharing for others to enjoy and learn from. Take for example, what I learned is that I will stick to paved roads, lol. Godspeed
What a great video and awesome scenery. Well done to both of you for pushing your off-road limits, you both did fantastically and I must say I don't think Chris has any problem with her ability, just a little confidence issue. You Go Girl!!! Your three travelling companions were also awesome, they helped and supported you is such a fantastic way, hats off to all of them 👍👍
You guys ROCKED IT (no pun intended) I was so stinking proud of you both for pushing on through. This is what makes it an adventure ride. I will be doing the Oregon BDR this summer but will be doing it on a CR 250 and you guys just demonstrated why haha I still hope we can cross paths this summer between tours and Peru, who knows but you are always welcome back in Walla Walla and we have water and electricity this time in the RV. That’s is awesome. Thank you so much. 🍻
You did extremely well especially riding a heavy GS. I noticed the other gentleman ride bikes that are much lighter.
Yes 2 T700 and a small KTM 390
Awsome episode. Good call on removing the hard cases. I had a low speed controlled drop with my AT in beach sand and i still ended up twisting the case a little.
Yep I did that back at camp just recently. Slow drop and twisted the top cover just a little
What a ride!
That was a challenge but you guys hung in there and got it done.
Yes it was a challenge for sureb
Thanks Mr G yes they will be due for service soon
Best part about it all, nobody broke any bones. I have to admit I did get a good laugh at your expense only because I did the same thing when I was way much younger and had to learn too.
I was not happy at the second drop. But what can you do? Give up? Not me !!
@@TwoWheelsBigLife
No, never give up on what really enjoy doing.
A different set of tires might serve you well.
How many orthopedic physicians in the US/Canada are bikers?
You guys are awesome!! You're both badass! Great show.
Awesome. Thanks.
Isn’t it lovely when people are happy to share their skills and ride at “learner’s” pace, well done those guys. And the 2 of you learnt heaps and hopefully had some fun! Loved this video and the scenery was gorgeous :)
Chris, you did awesome. Ya just chalk it up to experience. The scenery looked like it was beautiful.
Yes, yes and yes. It was great time.
Now that was an adventure, you only get better by riding on it more
True. Thanks.
What a great adventure, Chris i agree with Richard didn’t see any other lady’s out there doing what you just did.. thumb up !
Thanks Dan.
BTW. You guys did great. I have a Suzuki V-Strom 650 and I wouldn't ride down Old Ore Rd.
Yes old ore road is bad from what we hear.
Look like a tough ride but amazing hope nobody was hurt
No one was hurt just sore the next day. But what a ride it was
Kudos to you two for taking on this challenge!
Thanks appreciate that. Cheers
Yeah definitely some tough stuff for the big bikes
Way to go Chris and Rich!! You deserved a drink and a nap after that ride!
Congratulations to both of you! It took a lot of guts to power through that! Two thumbs up!👍👍
Every Sunday we wait for this! You did great Chris!!!
Awesome. Thank You so much for being here every Sunday
Wow that was a rough trail but thumps up to you two for doing it that would be to much for a old guy like me especially on my gold wing lol take care I enjoyed watching hope your bikes and you guys are OK ride safe
Thanks Tom. Cheers.
Awesome ride. Alan
Thanks Alan
This was one of your all time best videos! Excellent job pushing through that very difficult ride where giving up was not an option. Take care you two 🤘🏻😎🇺🇸
Thanks. There’s no Quitting
What a great video. You both did awesome Chris and Rich. Kudos to you both. 👍
Wow you guys tackled some difficult terrain on those big bike. Hats off to both of you.
You guys did good, you’re on big heavy bikes, the more you do the better you’ll get
Next time try some off road tires and less weight on the bike... I ride my GS 1200 since 2013 ( 40000 miles on it) . Tires are the best "tuning " for the GS ;)
Ride on friends !!
Adventure/off-road riding is an acquired skill and acquired taste. Good on you two for seeing it through and for sharing for others to enjoy and learn from. Take for example, what I learned is that I will stick to paved roads, lol. Godspeed
Way to go Chris and Rich. Chris it was good to watch you persevere and finish that what looks to be grueling ride.
You guys inspire me. I so enjoy watching your videos. Way to go in tackling that tract!
Wow, Good job Chris. Not easy on those big bikes on those roads. Lessons learned. ☺
So true. We learned a lot.
Wow what an adventure this was .you guys did it what a challenge and you completely made it back to camp👍no sisi in your house on today's video.
Thanks. man.
I will be doing the Oregon BDR this summer but will be doing it on a CR 250 and you guys just demonstrated why haha
I still hope we can cross paths this summer between tours and Peru, who knows but you are always welcome back in Walla Walla and we have water and electricity this time in the RV.
Be safe Paul Opp
Kudos to you guys, that’s some serious riding , you guys were awesome… well gone 👍🏻👍🏻💕
Great job getting through that!
Awesome video, even as long as it was, enjoyed every minute. Keep up the good work.
Thanks a bunch.
