Personally I love to feed about 1/2 or 1/4 of one tab to my two guppies tanks after I do a water change. I use the python system and am always nervous about them swimming into the new stream of water, even though I add conditioner to the tank. These keep them on the opposite side of the tank and are a nice treat. My fish go crazy for them. I have the new formula.
Thats actually a great idea, I havent thought of that! Not that I do my water changes that way, but would be a good way to re-scape a tank with fish still present.
I've tried 3 packs of the new version & won't buy more as they don't stick to the glass for more than 20-30secs in a community tank with more active feeders like pearl gourami, chain loaches & rams etc. (the older stuff was fine & stayed stuck until it was gone), when the new tabs do let go, they crumble into tiny particles which is fine if you have a tank full of fry or nano fish to eat it all, but if you don't most of it ends up in the filter or rotting in/on the substrate. The other thing I don't like is they are so fragile/crumbly now that half the time I try to stick them to the glass, they just break apart which defeats the purpose of them. It was never an issue with the old version. Personally I'll be trying the tetra tabs in the hopes they work better, as I do like the stick on tabs for extending the feeding time.
I had one called Novo Tab from the JBL company (I have no idea if this company sells outside of Brazil). Sadly, I can't find it anymore after 1 year and my old one just ended so I've been looking for a new tab to feed my community tank. It's expensive here, but it guarantees that they eat it, because they ignore flakes and granules! These ember tretas have been a menace to my wallet :P I guess I'll give the o-nips a try as they finally appeared on the local markets!
On your 1st video I was hoping to see the two tabs a bit further apart, run at normal speed for awhile and see which tab the FISH go after the most. The old tabs were awesome.
Honestly, I never tried it and stuck to "standard" feeding foods or methods. I like the idea ... shoot me a sample and I'll try it out and review it!! I'm always up for learning everything possible about fishkeeping!!
It seems, to me, the new ones, may be softer\easier to eat from. In the side by side video, it looked like the guppies were going to the new one more than the old one. I'm going to have to sign up for a test and review for you.
In Canada we have had a problem obtaining the O-Nip tabs. I found an American company that was willing to ship to Canada (a rare occurrence) and ordered some in December 2018. I received the tabs May 2020. Obviously the new ones. I have nothing to compare to but they seem fine. Unfortunately as you said people make up their mind based on someone else's opinion. Greeting from Canada. Thanks for your content and honesty. Fred O
@@SCAquatics Ordered December 2018 received May 2020 from the only site I could find to deliver to Canada. After I paid for the tabs I was told they were on back order. I was offered a refund but because the O-NIps were so hard to find I chose to wait under they were available. Got them May 2020. Unfortunately only Amazon.com (USA site ships to Canada on some items). Good luck in your projects. Cutting a hole in the wall to get into your garage for that tank seems like a big deal. Hope that works out for you. Thanks again for your content. Fred O
I still have some of the old formula O-Nip tabs. I'll have to try the new ones when I run out. @ 4:13 Looks like the Vienna guppies are coming along well.
The males are doing great. The females are nice and plump. Hoping I get more female babies to keep the line going. I'm going to cull the ones I have this week and maybe split some of them up into other tanks.
I never used the original or the new one. I have so many foods already and I don't really see much of a point in these. I guess if you had a specific reason to use them, like getting the fish to come to a certain spot for photography or to keep them away from something else for a bit, they would make sense.
Yeah its a treat tablet, I mainly use them to get pictures like you said, but also brings all the fish forward to view for any issues. This is a biggie when importing new fish into the fish room for the first week. Helps diagnose if there's any issues.
Wow, yours stuck on the glass a long time. Mine usually will only stick for 30 sec to a minute. I recently purchased mine from petco so I'm certain they're the new formula.
I've tried both and most of my fish don't like the new formula at all, but love the original. But if it works for you, great! I put one of each as far away from each other in a tank and all the fish checked out the closest one, then went straight over to the original. Maybe my fish are weirdos lol. (I don't keep livebearers so that might explain it, dunno). I keep smaller cichlids, different cory/catfish and gouramis.

@@SCAquatics thanks so much! I've been doing water changes this way for about a year and it works great!

I havent heard of the tetra tabs. Ill have to look into them!
@@SCAquatics The proper name for the tetra tabs is "tetra tablets tabimin" ;)

Seems to work well. The guppies love them
Awesome, thanks for the feedback!
Cory from co op said he didn't like it as much as old formula, probably biggest influencer
This is correct. Its actually the reason I stopped selling o-nip. But then once I tried it, I was like hot d@mn its still pretty good!
then there's the Snail 🐌 he needs air

I'll give it a go. I've not previously used this product.
Let me know how you like it!
they eat new more-faster desintegrate
I use O-Nips for “all day” feeding. That’s why I don’t like the new ones.
Thanks for the input!
