Those motor mounts must be the bomb because you're revving the engine up and the engine wasn't even moving at all.... some good quality mounts right there 👍 still one of the better looking convertibles that Volkswagen ever made in my opinion 👍
I had a 92 Jetta 5spd Ecodiesel sans the Eco. LUV'd it, no pwr locks or windows, no security system. It was the ride for me and my son till he was four. Then fuel pump died, and I was out of money. I cried a bit then sold it to my mechanic.
It is always odd seeing one my project cars I sold, randomly go driving down the street with a different person behind the wheel (sometimes not even the person I originally sold the project car to because they have gone & sold it themselves to a different local person). I actually have talked to some of the new owners and they get all freaked out when I start rattling off all the mods to the car before they even tell me about them. Then there are others that have taken the project cars in a totally different direction after they bought them from me and that is always interesting to see & discuss what their plans are for my old project cars now.
Been working hard to on my mk4 4door vr6 swap it's been some work but hopefully I'll be able to post it next year how it turned out. hard work pays off so ik you got a pretty penny for your swap I'm probably gonna treat her like my child lol nice to see someone else it taking care of her
This looks like it was a really fun project car. Glad to see it still on the road and in the hands of people who care for it. In my mind the worse thing to happen to a project is for it to end it's life as garage or yard rust or just another parts car.
Wow that sounds sweet. This is a bittersweet vid for me.i will be selling my beloved 03 clk320 cabriolet to a customer of mine. Yes its going to a real good dude who takes care of his cars so i will be seeing/working on it again.i just also sold my wifes 03 crv to another good customer. We are buying a new CRV soon. Selling cars you really like is so bittersweet. On a good note my 02 Hyundai Accent isnt going anywhere. Except to take me to my final resting place some day (not to soon i hope).great vid Charles. It brought back many fond memories from my past...cheers
J. Hunto's Garage hey J. I found a mig29 for sale in Florida. 4.5 million.only one of 2 licenced to fly in the USA..i say we should spilt the sale price and buy it.
That Cabriolet reminds me of the Mighty Car Mods: Street Cred episode where Marty and Moog rusted the crap out of a MK3 golf with beer and comic books then pimped it at a Honda show n' shine... Like a bulldog, So fugly you gotta love it...
Ooh, sounds like you miss it so too bad it's sold, but on the bright side you can make a better one with 4motion. You can get Fenske to help split the torque to a fun setting then go to the track for some good times lol
Thanks for the car, I wouldn't have had this amazing experience with my dad to put the engine into another cabriolet. It is very odd seeing this car after taking the engine out.
My Cabriolet's head gasket blew, and looking at next step options I followed from the old website to here! It seems a lot of work to restore one of these!
For anyone who is going to H20, do you have to register/pay for the Saturday show and shine? I can't find a separate part from the Sunday show on their website.
Hey Charles; I have a 2017 GTI S... Within the last 5,000 miles I have upgraded my brake pads (EBC Redstuff in front and Greenstuff in rear) and installed new rotors. Both sets of pads are fully bedded. Today I was driving spiritedly on my way home and I noticed my pedal felt spongy after ~ 3 stops from 60-70 mph down to 10 mph... I drove for about 3-5 minutes without touching the brake pedal to let them cool off a bit but my pedal still felt quite spongy even though these pads work better when slightly warmed up. I live in south Florida where it is very humid and I know the brake system allows some air (with moisture) to enter the system. I took delivery on September 2nd 2016 which means i just made 2 years and I know the first interval is 3 years. Does it sound like I need a brake fluid flush?
I used to have one of these but I'm trying to get 2 vw rabbit trucks since my dad sould our 2 trucks I have a rare AAZ turbo diesel for one and I'm gonna do a 5 to 6speed conversion with this kit they make and then the other tuck I'm gonna do a vr6 turbo and same with the transmission a 5speed to 6 speed upgrade
Knew it was coming years ago. Not surprised. It's a niche car and they want to hit more mass market with the SUVs out, and the Passat/Jetta. My guess is, a 5 or so year hold on the car, then bring it back. The 1998 Beetle was a HUGE recharge for VW.
I used a MK1 kit from Eurowise to install the engine. SUPER easy install. Today there are a bunch of companies that make a similar kit.

Always digg that MK1 headlight configuration...sounds good too Charles.....
Thanks! I ran the single rounds for a while, but I like the duals a lot.
Love the sound of a VR6

Yep. Sadly that happens more of the time.
Awesome build bro!!! New owners must love it!!! 👍
Sounds great. Miss my mk2 gli vr
Looking forward to seeing more of this
It has an exhaust note like a vq35. Personally that sounds amazing but it's not for everyone.

I can relate!

It’s good that you kept your first car
I love the VR-Sound.
Next month, I drive again my wintergolf VR5 wirh the Bastuck-Exhaust and my R/T is going to sleep.
That sound is so good .
*Thank you for this GREAT video !!! I love this car !!! Big UP mecanic lovers !*

LOL, I remember that one. I think that is the only MCM I have ever seen HA
Thanks good video I had a 76 Volkswagen Rabbit
NICE!
HOLY CRAP!!!! Awesome!

*AMAZING SOUND !!!!!!!!*
Thanks
That was fun.
Sir your video very knowledgeable thanks you sir
I didnt follow the channel when you were working on this. But seems like it was a cool project.
IT was a lot of fun. I wish I would have done a better job documenting it.
Hindsight is 2020. Or however that phrase goes! Also as much as you miss the vr6 cabrio im sure the turbo on the white wookie was worth it!
Sounds healthy...
Thanks for the car, I wouldn't have had this amazing experience with my dad to put the engine into another cabriolet. It is very odd seeing this car after taking the engine out.
Thanks awesome. How’s the new one coming?
HumbleMechanic very well it has been inspected and ready to come home!
My Cabriolet's head gasket blew, and looking at next step options I followed from the old website to here!
It seems a lot of work to restore one of these!
I would suggest he not paint it, just clear coat it. It's terrific.
I regret not doing that. Now the chalk looks sad.
Looks fun lol

Love that exhaust note. Why didn't that car come with a tailgate?
Always love the regret of getting rid of a car....
It has happened to just about every car I have sold LOL
My son has an 81 convertible... and he wants to do a swap, his first car was a 98 VR6!
Hell yes

Do a visual just to be sure nothing is weird. But yea flush that fluid.
I love these builds! a VR6 in a Mk1 is epic!
in USA are you checked by the police with a car like that?
The car has to pass a state inspection. When I owned it, I had a guy. ;)

Sir make a video remap & vw online coding thanks a lot sir 😎😊
I really can't. Much of that info is proprietary. I think VW would be really upset with it. Plus you need a proper scan tool that most don't have.
@@HumbleMechanic Tool Odis or vcds wich be good
Charles isn't that oil pan literally sitting on the asphalt?
Needs a skid plate on it.
yeah it does. I bottomed it out one time, LOL Luckily no damage.
How many miles did the engine have on it when you swapped it?
You should get a mk2 golf and put a r32 engine in it
That would be cool!
If you look sleeper in the dictionary i ma sure there is a picture of that car
What dashboard cluster did you use?
I still want to swap my mk2 with a vr6 but mine is the wrong build year with the old style electronics :/
I used all the original electronics that were not engine related. Everything engine was from the MK3
HumbleMechanic oh sweet, might reconsider doing the swap then
Hey, I have a mk2 jetta coupe I would like to swap a vr6 into, what's the best route to go?
Check out Fabless Manf, or S&P Automotive
What are your thoughts on them taking out the VW Beetle
Knew it was coming years ago. Not surprised. It's a niche car and they want to hit more mass market with the SUVs out, and the Passat/Jetta.
My guess is, a 5 or so year hold on the car, then bring it back. The 1998 Beetle was a HUGE recharge for VW.
It was beautiful before he got it
You have german blood...
That and you have to be slightly off your rocker to be a German car tech. LOL
I need one
Looking to build a 2001 VW Beetle with a VR6 Turbo charged can anyone point me in the right direction for information?!?
Repaint please
I don't own it anymore.
I know 😭
Which gearbox did you use
It’s an 02a trans. Lot of upgrades go to 02j
What are those wheels?
What wheels are on that cabby?
Man, I really wish I could remember.
I hate how the cabriolet looks like
But the normal mk1 and mk2 look so good. And the rabbit pickup looks good
What wheels are on it now? Anyone know?
Man I totally forget what they were. I got them on Craigslist. I actually took a little trip during a family vacation to buy them. HAHA
@@HumbleMechanic damn, ok. I have a 79 rabbit and I'm gathering ideas for a set of wheel. thanks.
