    Hear me out... we sacrifice people around the stone age when we can build an altar and through RNG it can empower your main character, BUT if your MC dies it resets.

      Make the chiefs of each tribe the sacrifice you gotta get and sacrifice at your camp. Each barrack cheif gives you like a level up or somthing

      The devs already said in several occasions that they are thinking about making MC A BIT more usefull, but the core gameplay is farm and control other tribesmen, that you won't be able to customize the looks. At this point if you dig this mechanic go on, or if you don't dig it (like me), it's useless to wait.

    I feel like this could be somewhat solved by not being able to customize the starting character, but having an elaborate mask customization

    I really like your first idea. Having the "chief" provide small passive bonuses while chillin in a throne feels like the best use of the starting character to me.

    Another option is already partially in the game, just tie upgrades to the created character to the boss nodes on the mask. Have your caps go up by 10 for each boss.

    I dont mind the character swap, but then I want the ability the change the appearance to make it my own. Some of these tribesman look really silly.

    your second idea is completely stupid! character customization is very important in the game genius! I customized my character for a reason I don't want some random ugly character!

      But you can only customize from three or maybe four options...so that's pretty much null/void if you don't like any of the three options. It's hardly customizable, they're all ugly. Cut the attachment.

    You can already increase the max levels of the main character. If they just make initial max to be 60 snd cap later at 90, that would be more than enough to make that character perfectly fine.

    I've been playing the starting character, I've got 200 hours in and it never crossed my mind to actually play the other toons. I feel stupid but I was loving this game already, this opens up a lot more gameplay. There's so much to learn in this game that some times you can't see the wood for the trees. I absolutely love your idea of the throne btw.

    It's called soul mask so what about a new mask tree to increase the main characters Stats and you get points for this via sacrificing tribesmen
    Additionally you can role for one if the traits of said sacrificed tribesmen once you maxed out the ammount of traits you can achieve whenever you role you can replace one of the old ones by sacrificing resourses and said tribesmen the more you do this the more resourses you spend

    The fact that other teibesmen are the strong characters and fights can be a very tactical endeavor has made me feel like I am playing a soul like hardcore survival game.
    If I die and revive the barbarian, it starts back at the level I captured them, so I have to rebuild myself and try again. It is such a great feeling once you conquer harder content, knowing that you can lose the character with a simple mistake.
    A boss your own level and same tier of gear can still one shot you and can have like 50,000+ hp. Things aren't always so easy.

    We as the player are the chieftains NOT our first character, BTW. So our first toon just needs to be able to work!

    That's a brilliant solution to the issue at hand. It doesn't bother me so much that the vessel doesn't do anything, but I find that have to deploy who I want to take and drag them to where the vessel won't be a pathing issue for the people working. I do hate that at standard settings you spend SO much time leveling a tribesman and if you lose them before you get the stone tablet you lose the one you are actually very attached to AND can't respawn close to the body with campfires. That does however fit the story well.

    My personal issue with the solo play is being limited to just one NPC in your group. At least allow for two NPCs. Or even allow you to select some to act as a raid/scout party that can be set to a POI ahead of you.

    well getting the respawn machine is pretty difficult to get at first, so most people are probably playing the main character for respawn purposes and dont want to risk losing their better guys

    What if the "main" character was called the Eternal? The tribe's goal is to keep the Eternal alive, like the bonfire. As the Eternal's comfort increases more powerful blessing are unlocked. Part of base building would be pimping out the Eternal's crib.
    I think that would make the "main" seem important without changing the game too much.

    I like your throne and chieftain ability thing. Just the throne alone would already fix the issue though. Could add visual modifiers for the chieftain that are tied to progress as rewards and indicators of success without actually providing buffs and the devs need to change absolutely nothing else.

    i agree with a throne. and the chief idea hes supose to stay at base. if he was super stacked youd never use the mask to switch bodies. i think they need to give the main character some special upgrades. maybe if you use the chief hes weak but you can find more rare items or maybe you can only enter certain places as a chief. maybe some special abilities so that hes not the strongest but he has some utility for certain scenarios

    I think that instead of taking control of the Tribesman and have your character sit idle on the floor. The mask your character wears should absorb the soul of the Tribesman giving you his stats and perks will he sit idle on the floor soulless. That would allow you to play as the character you created at the start and swap between stats and perks at will.

    I've been a gamer for a fair amount of time. With atleast 200 titles under my belt for jrpgmmo to 3rd person shooters and top down or side scroll flash games.
    I've never seen anything like what they did here with how your "main" character is only a husk to get you started.
    Honestly I love how refreshing it is to not be locked into a single character. The ability to change play style or hyper focus my builds.
    I do really like your idea of the throne and buffs because you are the chieftain. The chief's job is to manage the village and send out the troops. The only time they actually head out is when things truly to to heck in a hand basket. History shows just how weak many leaders where in comparison to their best troops. To me it makes sense.
    Though that said on the server I'm hosting. I did double the amount of stat points you are rewarded with for leveling up with your default guy. That way while still being weak in mid to late game. If played carefully he can still wreck house

    "Customized Character" It's 4 sliders, a dozen faces, half a dozed hairs, some color options... Then you have 3 masks with color options... Oh and a name. It's not a custom character at all. Because I can find dozens of different barbarians that look exactly like my OC.
    Let the "Main Character" function like any other tribesman, that I can agree with. Or having a randomly generated tribesman the mask attaches to is also a good idea.
    I for one like the decentralized character concept behind the game.

      So far we've seen people whine because of the recruited vessel's appearance regardless of how strong they are. The tech tree allows you to preview endgame blueprints and one of them allows you to craft a consumable item that lets you fully remodel a vessel's appearance and reset their stat points.

    I'f my character became a working tribe member I wouldn't care.. But it's kinda dumb they just sit there if you switch to somewhere else..

      true :) i am with you on that one, or make the bosses drop a consumable that improves the main character , like an elixir with +1 proficiency and then people will have incentive to do the bosses more ...

    You should be able to sacrifice a controlled character into your main character through the mask and a ritual. Expensive, long call down, and rare to do.

    Your chieftan idea makes a lot of sense.
    What I think would help a lot as well is making it more clear early on, in whichever way, that your character isn't THE character, so people don't go in *expecting* to play the character they created.

    Starting with a random low level character really solves a lot of it i think, because like you say you have no attatchment to them, maybe you don't even like their traits, so you're motivated to cycle through people. i also suffer from attatching myself to my main character even though i know it doesn't work like that im finding it hard to let go for some reason. brains are so weird

    After 3 days I actually sayed "I think I'm playing the game wrong" and this was the reason. I was struggling with the first barbarian camp, so much i had to lower the from normal to easy. Yesterday I did it with lower lvl and gear, but with one of the warriors I captured on normal.

    I don't disagree with anything you said. However I will add. Allow customization of the Tribe of those who you have copied in your ummmm stone thing. I forget the name, sorry. Allow for skill remapping, what I mean is let me transfer 1 skill from a tribe to a person I have saved, but it will destroy that tribesman. Tribe member 2 has 120 Spear skill, I really want that on my primary character, let me steal that skill at the cost of losing tribe member 2 forever. Eventually, and with luck, I have a character with max skills however should I die in combat, I can revive my character but from the initial base values. This let's me create a small tribe of ones that I attach too most without having to break the majority of the fundamental concept of the game. Hopefully I made some sense.

      Also I will add it makes content repeatable and lasting, makes combat more interesting as I don't want to die so I would be more careful and also make sure I am always on the hunt for the best gear.

    I submitted a feature request to allow for a feature to enable AI on unused player characters. This feature you would likely have to enable because if you are offline and your tribe wants you to harvest or craft, you won't be in the same spot when you log in.

    I have to double check later but I believe after we took down a Vajra Ape and unlocked Data Update 3 it raised all the proficiency cap to 60 allowing our initial character to at least unlock tier 2 milestone passives.

    I totally agree on the chief part but however I do believe that if you can create a character it should be at least above average in terms of strength and other attributes and skills. Also in the future I think the chief should be able to craft some special stuff or also kinda "bless" other tribe members to upgrade skills or something like that.

    I think you should just be the entity in the mask. So no created starting character works for me. I hate that we can't get rid of him and he does nothing

    I had the same idea cept your chief would have unique items that that could drop from other chiefs pvp or npc tribe leaders that you give your chief for the buffs.these buffs are already in the game for example the flint tribe members get the def buff now if you kill their leader he may drop a chest piece that only your chief can wear and while he is throned your tribe gets it. When you are using him only he gets it and it will be risky cause if you die you drop it or it gets destroyed.

    The starter character should autopilot into the bonfire and stand/float there until needed. That would put them in the center of your camp after a death, make the focal point of most of the tribe when they aren't working, and be as cool visual object to destroy in pvp when you raid a base. Higher level could even add more functionality to them like letting them shoot a lazor like a turret or something, or transfer your mastery levels over to another tribesperson...

    I like your idea. I am one who knows how it is supposed to work, but still gravitates toward playing my created character. Partially because I always like to play a character who looks how I want it to look (the generated characters are often really painful to look at) but also partly because I like feeling like “I” am accomplishing something. I think your idea would help with the second issue. The first issue might just be a something I have to live with. Or maybe they can tone down the sliders on randoms.

    Love the idea of the throne. You can have multiple tiers of thrones to build with more costly materials as you progress. Maybe even add decorations like effigies and what not in the perimeter of the throne to further boost perks.

    Even more aggravating is that their "vision" is that you can't customize tribesmen too. So not only the Main Caracter is absolutly craps, but you are forced to play anyone that the rng rolls good stats for you. Might be a much overweight old lady, or like in my case a 12yo kiddo.

    As you capture more Barbarians, you learn more hairstyles. So your character isn't really even set up from the start.

    I'm level 24 and I still play my original character. It confuses me. I die a whole lot and I will run out of extra tribe if I play them.

    They could let us design a core, or prime Mask, with own design and a few special statt, that influence or carry over to the other masks. That would make us identify more with the mask, or the soul in the mask.

      In my opinion, this is the best solution. It solves the issue of people connecting with the initial character rather than the mask itself. The video's suggestion of having the main character be an *actual* chieftain with a throne and its own game functions is probably the next best suggestion.
      I am afraid the devs are going to make this way more complicated to fix than it needs to be.

      He can't even keep the bonfire going? I just got the game and haven't even loaded it up yet so this is all new to me.

      ​@@stanleyclark923 I don't think so, at least in my experience the game does not let us issue commands (ie; caretaker on crafting stations) to the initial character. What I do is I swap back to my initial and have my favorite outcast perform tasks whenever I'm offline (private server).

    The first character's special attribute is that they're immortal. Their ceiling must be low because their floor never gets lower. Other tribesman you recruit are vulnerable to die and any replacement you get needs to be trained back up to become as strong as the one you lost. I really enjoy the current design and don't see any need for the first character to be any stronger. This is a fresh and unique gameplay system and the devs should be applauded for it.

      Yup the devs should be applauded but for me they didn’t jump into the USP hard enough. It’s like, here’s a fresh game play idea but we’re still going to let you create a character like every other survival game then strip away the usefulness of that character. I’d like to see them embrace that unique philosophy harder. Go all in or don’t go at all.

    I like the mask idea, I think it’s cool. It’s fun trying to get that 120 archer with perfect perks to go with it or the dual blade wielder. I agree with the make my character feel like a chieftain, like he/she is building something with this mask that he stumbled upon. Mine too sits there on the floor naked. Sometimes in the way because the one I wanted to control was there.

    Hear me out: they shoud add some kind of throne where your main character rest as a cheftain.
    When you sit there as with mask with your main, there aould be able to set up som tribesman, village goals. Lets say i want this tribesman lvl 60 at weaponcraft. You set up everithing like what he will craft how much resources he can spend etc.- with xp boost of mask upgrades.
    Next idea: you will be able to blueprint some buildings or barricades. You place them in "ghost" mode and when you go for explore you main character(tribeleader) somehow lead tribesmans to build it.

    I bought this game on the last day of the initial sale but have yet to play it due to it being in the end of my back log queue. Maybe this is too much complicated but it would be cool if the barbarians you possess take on the appearance of the character you created in some way while you are controlling them. Maybe make it subtle at first but the more you play the character the more it morphs in appearance to a point. Essentially each barbarian in your tribe would end up looking like your children. I can also see that turning into a horror show.

    You should be able to absorb the skills/strength of other tribesman into the mask then put it back onto your original character, who then gets more powerful, so you can absorb power from tribeman, barbarians, animals. The Mayans made masks to copy the spirit of things to gain strength, as did other tribal cultures using things like eagle feathers, bone fangs etc.

    20 hours in. I had no idea it worked like this. I didn't understand why you would want to run around as one of the npc's, didn't know they were stronger. Not sure I like that. I really like the throne idea!

    There's also another problem and that's the tedium... example, between 20 and 25 awareness, you do your crops manually.. so you wanna switch to your "plant guy"... but so often I will log on in the morning to just harvest and replant, and I just don't wanna be arsed to switch bodies for a measly 10% bonus...
    Then, after work, in the evening, I have to switch to my warrior if I wanna go out and hunt... also maybe bring a long a miner if I want some copper... or maybe I'll take the miner and bring the warrior with me...
    And yes, once you're later in the game, most of that is automated... but once everything is automated, what do you do as a player...
    The game doesn't properly convey the idea of you being everyone, but no one...

    I just came to the realization last night that my created avatar would not go above 50 in any skill and I was thinking this cannot possibly be. My mind was trying to figure out how you advance when you are stuck at 50 in everything and your captured players are permanently dead if they die. It kind of put a damper on my enthusiasm to keep playing the game.

    Just make so every time we kill a main boss or unlock a new mask for a first time, it gives +X to max stats or, as was said in a vid, make it random from the beginning. Another solution would be allowing players to customize how tribesmen look. I think that this would fix the issue for many.

      You can already unlock skill profciency to 60 after deafeating one of the bosses and fxing the the node in the mask (the ape I think), so they alreay have a feature implemented like that. All they need to do is expand it a little and that solves many problems that people have right there.

    You can get your skills upgraded to 60 (possibly more) after defeating either the frog or the ape boss, but that aside if people care so much for the original character then they could just morph whatever body you jump into to have the appearance of the character that you created at start.
    I will say that I personally don't think they should do anything other than skip the whole main human character creation and just have the mask creation instead so you know ahead of time that the mask is what is important, not the body. I've played with character types I never would have normally due to the way they do the mask.
    If they want to add something where the character isn't just a sack of potatoes somewhere in my base I would like that as Firespark mentioned here. I wouldn't say no to a V Rising throne that I can easily control all of them at once!

      yeah its when you beat the ape and later unlock of the node takes them to 70. I think it would be good if MC started at a max of 70 so we have the ability to get 90, 50 is too low. when were not in control of MC it should have a "throne" that it goes to or as firespark said, we sit in the throne and transfer to who we want from there

    It would be cool if we could "bond" to a new vessel. Like Chucky lol let us perform a ritual to sacrifice our current vessel and transfer our soul bond to another vessel

    I use my MC a lot. As much as one would use a main really.
    I like them being bare minimum, it gives me a good gauge on how tough an encounter is going to be with a respawn option before sending in my valuable perma-death characters.
    Stats do not matter anywhere near as much as mechanics do. Combat skills are just to deal damage. My MC can dodge, parry, riposte, and even disengage and flee pretty easily.
    My MC scouts new areas and if there is a giant death kill snake that lives there, the area can be avoided.. or send a scrub... I'll take on scrubs for just such purposes! Lots of fun! xD
    It would be kinda cool if over time the MC could adopt traits from other tribes people they spend time connected with and by endgame be a combination of your fav tribes people, or maybe even be able to grant some of these abilities to others.

    The problem seems to be that even by their own metric the game play loop doesn't make a lot of sense. They want us to play other people like Firespark said as pokemon, but we can only save 4 of these people. AND regenerating them sets their state back to default. (this can be turned off on private servers and the limit bumped to 6) OK so I take out someone with 120 spear and play them for awhile. They die, first it takes an hour+ to regrow them and when they come out I've lost all the progress I just made?
    Feels like I'm incentives to not actual risk this people and just play my initial person who can take risks and get in over their head as it costs me nothing when they die but gear.
    The ideas mentioned about gaining their skills or improving our whole tribe makes a lot more sense and would help I think as well.

    There is another easy fix, just have that you can customize a character you possessed, like if you change character have preset of looks or let you pick if you want changes
    And make it a Mask power if they want

    You should spawn as a random character, and have the lore built on the mask mote than it is. Cuz I knew that there's no real main character, but the beginning parts of joining a server didn't really explain that too well

    Played 60 hours of this game using the initial character, only used tribesmen for work. There is actually no need for you to go out and find better tribesmen for combat abilities, buffs, passives. Why not just let us earn passives using the masks deterrent system from barbarians and unlock upgrades for our proficiencies and masteries through the mask tree. At no point in this game did I come to the conclusion I am not meant to use the "main character" that I created.

    Some really great points. Love the throne idea tbh! Maybe at the start you have preset types of leaders to pick from based more on the kind of buffs you want to focus on for your tribe (separate to the mask benefits). Warframe kinda has a similar thing, where you are in a way a character controlling something else in order to switch between warframes and also builds via mods that you've made within each warframe type. I would like to be able to do some further customisation on my tribes people, so I feel like im actually making a build and not all of it is down to chance. Maybe as you level up the tribes person you get to pick from a list of perks/traits, and swap some out if you want to.

    I don't think they stress it enough that you have to swap bodies. I thought it was just a cool extra thing I could do. Your second idea would help new players realize that you need to swap characters to progress because we can't customize but your first idea Def plays into the story better. Why not both? Thanks for clarifying I need to swap characters more. Probably explains why I am not progressing as well as i want lol

    I have not touched my starter char in probably 100+ hours. Its so much more fun, finding new powerful NPCs and trying out new playstyles and realizing how much easier all the content suddenly got.

    The thrown idea with chieftain traits coming from tribal leaders is a really cool concept. Would love to see that. Despite the main character being somewhat useless, it doesn't change the fact that this "early access" game is phenomenal. People are stuck malding over one "game breaking" mechanic that doesn't suit their wittle desires and needs but if they could look past it, the devs are actively updating the ever living F out of this game. More is to come. Be patient and enjoy it for what it is

    Another idea would be that the mask inherits a skill permanently once it's maxed out, but you can only have 2 combat skills maxed and 1 crafting and 1 gathering skill stored on a mask at one time, this can be switched over ONLY by the main (chief) character and has a cool-down before you can switch again.

    I agree with the chief sitting on a throne but when you take over him with the mask you go to a birds eye view of the "claimed area" thats linked to the bonfire. That way you could set patrol routs and issue crafting orders without having to interact with each crafting table. For Pvp side of it they can direct team members like the comander in bf4 and direct different tribesman on stationary crossbows. basicly an RTS once you on ya throne. Think the commanders in natural selection2

    I think that's an amazing idea to have your random person you start with over time become a chieftan and help build power for the rest. Such a great idea and makes sense if it's sitting around at your base doing nothing. Slap it in a throne and GG.

    In my opinion there are 2 ways they can tackle it:
    1st is as you said the chief route with the throne to buff NPC around the area - works for PVE & PVP.
    2nd it's to allow you to upgrade your first character quality - Using a mysterious stone tablet. They can add special drops to NPC chief so you can expand your character's potential eventually reaching a similar quality as the legendary NPC ( allowing to have 1-2 120 potential skills ) ... Tho that more work intensive route and will completely mess with PVP balance and game flow ...
    So option 1 is better as it doesn't devalue good quality NPC which can be killed - lost permanently and if data saved it's taken time to revive them and level them back up. So that's an empowering skill player in PVP Vs Mega clans to some degree by keeping immortal characters inferior...

    I really like the idea for making your original character a real chieftain with a throne. Was also thinking of an alternative use of the og character like maybe the ability to upkeep the bonfire or something simple like that. Agree it doesn’t need upgrades because searching for new barbarians would be less exciting.

    I agree, they should remove the character creation completely and just give us a random generated vagabond as the starter character.
    I do like the chief on the throne idea, but that still doesn't quite fit to the idea that the first character is just a nobody who happens to stumble upon a powerful mask.

    I really like your idea. That was my thought when I first started playing, make the one I create the chief and give them something to do even when I am not using the "body" of that character.

    Give the chieftain a level system that levels up “control” so you can’t buff the og character up but leveling him up gives controlled characters buffs

    Well, I'm attached to my "main" character, but I'd like to have a throne to put them on and/or be able to boost my workers with buffs or just have them work in the base themself.
    Maybe an upgrade system where you get a % bonus every time you have a certain number of tribesmen would be good.

    I entirely agree with your idea even to piggy back off of it some. Could even have some sort of ability with the soul “link” to surpass level 50 on your main character thus you see end game progression towards those abilities. Also, I think we should be able to make them work. If the soul is the one controlling the mask why can’t we make them work having a useless number in our base. Non the less I’m happy to see this is something that will be addressed

    I had both of these exact same thoughts and posted it to their suggestion discord. I hope they listen, I think this would be a fantastic addition. I also dont even respawn my main character anymore, I kill them and spawn as one of my others right now.

    I like your first idea and I also didn't really know about the traits only played it a little bit so actually just stayed my starting character all game because I saw the possessing as just an extra thing not the most important thing so they really need to highlight that better.

    If I was the dev I would give the player an option to select one craft one gather and one weapon skill that will go higher than 50. NOT much but higher. Then I would increase the bonuses of the mask upgrades that target the main host. So once you have all of them your way stronger than any tribesman.

      Deaths make this a big no for me: I'm not a great player, I'm gonna die - so don't punish me because you're a better player (and that's what a lot of people are missing... ) Now if they could respawn at a fire with that tribesmen, then absolutely....

      @@pmilley88 u can save them in the tablet (4 -6 depending on server difficulty now), but if they die u will need to pay to get them back ( some emerald and mask energy + a ton of time, like 3h if u didn't change the server settings) and more than that u still will need to make them gain xp to get max level(carac+pro and one more time cuz the data is only for the moment u convert them, that's if u didn't change the server settings to be able to sync data the base model of your tribesman)
