I'm really wondering why this wasn't included in the patch notes? Changes like this is kind of important to know if you're used to the way it worked previously. Witcher 3 is an amazing game, but man they should really put more details in the patch notes if they're making big changes to core abilities and upgrades
The small companies we grew up loving get bigger. The bigger they get, the worse they become. Remember when EA was actually loved? I do. Companies always seem to get too big for their britches. Ubisoft having the same problem now too.
I like the new update to Yrden. Especially when combined with the Griffin school gear. When you equip the full set, Yrden is larger, makes stamina regenerate faster, and allows you to cast two signs back to back as long as they’re within 3 seconds of each other. Helps a lot with groups of enemies. Especially arachnamorphs.
Man the only bad thing about your channel is that it does not have more videos. Something about your commentary and style of editing is just so satisfying and I could honestly watch your videos all day.
On the other hand, not having more videos might be the good thing about his channel. Each video of his has a clear purpose with nary a wasted moment, if he just put out videos out of a need to create more content, the quantity would take precedence over quality.
I think it would be great if you continued this series of videos about the hidden changes made. It is a shame that CDPR didn't include an exhaustive list, and thank you so much for cataloging these!
Thanks to these changes, Flood of Anger became an extremely strong perk, with it upgraded to the max you get to cast the shockwave aard perk with an increased intensity of 300% when at max adrenaline points, it enables me to play the euphoria build while still making pretty good use of signs. (this works with everything, if you have max adrenaline you can cast the active shield quen, make yirden traps, or cast firestream without having any of it unlocked)
My build is focused on oils/potions/bombs because I liked Witcher 1 combat (in the sense you had to use everything at your disposal, prepare before each battle, etc). Would definitly love a video on the changes made to them!
after playing witcher 1 for the first time recently i desperately miss the oils and potions system from that game, properly preparing with potions since they had either lengthy animations or couldnt be used during combat (i cant quite rememeber which was the case) and oils being duration based instead of with charges was a much more immersive and enjoyable system to me than pausing every 2 minutes during combat to reapply oils
@@RickReasonnz yeah it feels ridiculous its just clunky because you can apply them mid combat with no animation or downside. even if they made it so you couldnt apply them mid combat sure id take it but as it stands theres no real reason to take the perk that increases number of charges because its literally a waste of a slot. really unfortunate they didnt change that in the next gen patch its bothered me for years
Would love to see a video on the changes to the runes as pre-update I never used them as I thought they were mediocre at best. So if they've made some meaningful changes, I'd like to know about that.
One of my favorite godlike builds was based on alchemy tree and potions so I would really like to know what changes were made in that regard. Also it would be fun to see some endgame build ideas with the new changes.
Thank you for this amazing video! You know as I watch your newest uploads I keep getting a stronger need to make a proper Witcher 3 build as I play through the game, and ng+. I would love for you to cover something like that as I feel like you know your stuff and what's already on youtube is a bit lackluster, especially with hybrid types of builds (sword-sign build etc...). If we could hear your take on some witcher builds I know you'd find an excited audience! 🙏
I love all of these videos. So, anything covering the reworks are all of importance to me. I got very comfortable with the known and understood builds and mutations and runework because of all the years of playing this game since release. So, it's kinda fun to have to re-learn and rediscover what will now work in the next gen version. And you're showcasing changes and explaining things I'm not seeing anywhere else at all. I lean heavily into oils, and anything covering the changes to runeworks would be awesome. Also, that Morgan and Morgan sponsor portion was great. It was genuinely funny, fitting a channel about The Witcher, while still making me aware of the services they provide. If I need to find an injury attorney, I will know who to call. If only Dijkstra had known this when Geralt "shoved Dijkstra aside."
Glad to have stumbled on this video. I began a new play through and I wondered why Active Shield wasn’t healing me faster. Love the Aard explanation, super clear on how to use it and where the spells will taper off.
I'd love a video on potions/bombs and all that! Personally, that was always my favourite build and as I haven't had the chance to play the new update yet, I really wanna know how things are before I finally jump back into the game a few months from now 😁
i have over 600 hours in this game and i never knew most of what you said was even a thing in the original version. honestly i might continue my death march run.
Piercing Cold can still be extremely powerful without committing all those points to get Razor Focus in the sword tree. I took the skill that gives adrenaline points with sign usage, and the one next to it that increases sign intensity with adrenaline as well. Then, when needed, Superior Mirabor Forest instantly gives one point, but I rarely needed it. With Yrden trap + Entanglement, points build up very fast, and when they max out, Blizzard gives free casts. Combined with the new armor, which does about 2x the damage with piercing cold as the Griffin set does, there was basically nothing in the game that wasn't trivialized even on Death March, only Caretaker and a couple other bosses. Zero points in sword skills needed
I'm new to the game and completed the story and DLCs, and fell in love with the game throughout the whole journey. I'm hoping if it continues to receive updates, the only minor but impactful add-on I'd love integrated are auto-looting, faster shop interactions for mostly selling gear quicker, and as someone who hasn't yet started NG+, It'd be awesome seeing a Legendary Dark Knight mode where nearly endless enemies swarm you. This game gets my unofficial seal of approval.
I'd love to see a detailed guide on the changes to alchemy, especially the protection against foes of the same oil you use against them. Also great idea a video about the changes to runewright, like those useless runewords with Yrden, are they good now?
I don't think the piercing cold update is that bad, it gives some point into investing in quick adrenalin gain. The potion Maribor Forest also gets much more attractive, since that quick adrenaline gain is now meaningful in this build as well. If you have razor focus and pop one Superior Maribor Forest, you would enter a fight with two adrenaline points and with increased gain, so you can reach 3 rather quickly. Don't really see this nerf as a problem at all.
Thanks for doing this! It gives all the info I need without much fluff. And yes, I would love to know about the other changes made, like Runewright etc
I literally did not skip the sponsor portion because I wanted to know what law firm wanted to sponsor a Witcher video. Good foresight on both their and your parts. More random third parties should be willing to do this, keeps things interesting.
You easily deserve a couple hundred thousand subs man. I haven't even played this game since finishing blood and wine but I still love watching your videos about it and seeing someone else who's just as passionate about this game as I am
Excellent video! It’s kind of wild that a 2016 game is receiving significant combat tweaks. I think all of these changes to Signs are smart ones. It was always difficult for me to feel good about heavily investing into the “blue” section of Geralt’s skill tree. Always felt like investing in “red” and/or “green” was far more practical. The one playthrough that I went heavily into “blue” ended up focused primarily on Igni & Axii, just because the other Signs felt weak. But after these 2022/23 updates, if I get back into TW3 (again), I can see solid value in all five Signs. I don’t mind the Piercing Cold change; now it’s more of a “timeout” in the middle of a brawl, rather than a start-of-combat AoE.
This next-gen release is just looking worse and worse the more information is given out on it. "Here, the game clearly isn't easy enough as it is so take this overpowered skill that completely removes any balance from the game!"
I really think that the piercing cold " nerf"was done because of the new armor , the forgotten wolven set, this armor with piercing cold is almost broken" na it is broken!! and since the bonus is on Aard combine with yrden I have all enemies die in seconds and they freeze albeit if you build around that particular armor
combat always have been a meh in witcher especially against bosses. I wish game devs could customize attacks against specific monsters on the flow. Like dismemberment could be addedd to momsters as well like cutting down parts of monsters or severely injuring them and having a visible effect of it on the enemies through the combat.
Piercing cold was my absolute favor thing to do and I was specifically going to do a fire and ice build on my current playthrough. The change is really disappointing.
I just want to say I would personally be very interested in knowing all the stuff they’ve changed in the game. Regardless of how good it does man if you put out stuff like that I think you’ll get more subs because people will know you’re reliable

I think it's very smart of Morgan and Morgan to sponsor you. I see this as the way forward for many ad concepts. Other than major league sports who gets more eyeballs these days than UA-camrs ? And why not advertize on a gaming channel ? People who play games need lawyers too !
For aard knockout kills which are not cool i advise using this mod: "Disable finisher moves (instant kills) and knockdown duration decrease" so they get up faster and you wont be forced to use this mechanics (which sometimes is worse than swings of your sword - no aoe, it's longer than few fast attacks). In mod text file you could change the multiplier of the knockdown time to the one you like.
These changes overall severely affect build variety. It was already difficult to effectively mix classes with the high investment perks and limited perk slots. This just makes it even worse for players who want to partially spec into magic.
Razor Focus and Superior Maribor Forest, with Alghoul Decoction - 20% freeze chance right at the start of combat, 30% freeze chance after like, 3 fast attacks. So for the hybrid build I was already running at least, it feels barely nerfed, and on paper buffed after a couple seconds of combat. Also it's nice to hear that for a sign build, Active Shield is still very strong. On a hybrid build it may be underwhelming, but since the healing amount will add on to what Ekhidna Decoction gives you, if you use the pair together your bubble can still be a substantial heal.
I never watch sponsor ads and I watched this one LMFAO, very nice. I am left wondering why on earth a lawfirm would want to sponsor a Witcher video, but hey; I won't complain. Great job working it in Neon Knight :)

I can’t believe they’re still doing updates to this game. I love it. I am curious how you were fighting one (or more?) of the crones outside. During the day. Am I forgetting a look a like monster?
I’m going to watch every single video of yours. Quality content every time. And right now I’m very curious about the next-gen changes because it feels different but sometimes I can’t figure out why.
With this new update I decided to run a Sign build, as I had never done it before. It was really really powerful pretty much from the start. I just finished the main game and started Blood and Wine and I focused on Igni, Yrden and Quen as my main skills, but all of my Signs were very strong. With the Green Skill that boosts Mutagen bonuses, giving all Greater Mutagens +60%, I hit over 300% Sign Intensity before the end of the main game at level 34. It's a VERY strong build. Another thing you should have mentioned was the Shock damage from the Magic Trap will literally stunlock monsters and most non-boss enemies.
I haven’t really invested in sign’s during any of my play throughs but I just started a new one and might try putting more points in signs with these changes
You’re my guide to the Witcher 3. Not Xlaxative or whatever his name is. I discovered you first and enjoy your pacing and coverage more! Keep them coming please!
I got sat on by a rock troll on a contract in Kovir. Needless to say I was out of commission for some time and up to my cat eyes in overdue medical bills. Morgan & Morgan helped get me what I was owed and got me back on my feet. Thanks Morgan & Morgan!
Thanks. I wish they had added one other thing: quest(s) to help clear Undvik of all the creatures that dropped in during the time Geralt (and Yen) were trying to reach Tor Gvalch'ca. That would have been fun for higher level Geralt.
I only started playing after the update, and only got Active Shield further on, so I didn't really notice what you'd mentioned but it's good to know for my second playthrough where I'm not going to invest in signs much
Oh man, I thought I was going crazy! I hadn't played W3 since summer and recently started a new playthrough, and signs felt so off to me - especially Aard. I thought it was all in my head, or maybe because I played so much W3 on Switch Lite that, idk, I was imagining differences now that I was playing on Steam Deck. Or something. That ad segment got me good there. Somehow remind me of better call saul moment.
I can’t believe they’re still doing updates to this game. I love it.
I am curious how you were fighting one (or more?) of the crones outside. During the day.
Am I forgetting a look a like monster?
Another fine video
your research is very much apprechiated and earns another thanks from me!
god job witcher Knight
Well done Neon, would love one about potions, glyphs and bombs :)
I haven’t really invested in sign’s during any of my play throughs but I just started a new one and might try putting more points in signs with these changes
Would love to hear details about the new changes!
Great info thx :)
Very useful video, thank you for have done it
You’re my guide to the Witcher 3.
Good to know there's actually something there 😅
I've actually been using Shockwave for the FIRST time its what's got to be my bazillionth playthrough. Aard and Yrden are all I've been using XD
