Bapamma,my mom in law ground a tabspn of soaked rice, lil coconut and added that as alavan! In Goa at my mom's madgane is prepared exactly the way you prepared but we add sago/ sabudana too.. My husband is from Gangolli..we Goans call it Mangane 😊
Appears that madgane derived from Karwari name for payasam as MaDDi+ GeNasu (sweet potato) = MaDgaNe [ cooked sweet potato pieces also added to payasam as known from my mother]

Everyone has their own way of preparing it.. we prepare it this way, even in temples it is prepared this way
