Guess i wont be traveling to italy anytime soon. 21% extra tax for customers is crazy. 😢

Well, the tax revenue department wants 21% amount on the transactions. That technically it's not "extra tax". We could say that so far rentals have been "tax free". Or maybe the amount of the tax ended in Airbnb and hosts pockets. Or just one. Who knows. But 21% it's the law, good or bad. How Latins (Romans) used to say: Lex sed dura lex. That is like: that's the law, take it, if you like it or not. Somebody has to pay it. The actors are: Airbnb, hosts, customers. We don't know how they're going to arrange it and how it's going to end. 7% each one? Or 21% on only one? Who? I suspect the wicker link of the chain (as usual) it's going to pay it. Or maybe they will find a commercial strategical exit.

They didn't pay their taxes. If you go there at a hotel or in a villa it's included. AIRBNB stole the money

Taxing tourism has to be the most moronic policy in the book. Especially for a country like Italy.

Yes this statement has its logic indeed. But it's clear that in a country like Italy in many cases, take Venice first of all, they want to go towards a formula: less people more money = exclusive tourism = rather luxury tourism = higher prices. Starting from a case like Venice it has its logic (I'm not supporting this, I'm observing). It's a city that physically can't stand unlimited number of people (now it's at its maximum - I witness it). So they'll like to resolve it with "exclusive access". Milan for example can stand crowds of people, but the old fragile little museum like towns that are everywhere in Italy have limits. Only time will tell.

So the most successful business in the country should be tax free? Public taxes pay for that city to exist when you visit. If the city hall would not take care of the city you wouldn't have anything to visit

@@mateescugabriela7655 yes indeed. Actually this 21% tax is national. Goes to the national tax system to take care (as you said) of all country. Now, there's a law in Italy that specifies which cities or towns (it's long to explain the criteria) can apply the local "night staying tax" (if you sleep at hotel, or rent on famous platforms, or rent privately but by law). And that may go from one euro per night to five euros. That's the specific local tax to take care of the city, from tourism human flow. Of course all touristic cities and towns in Italy apply this.

@@wiwi_life yes but it's more than this. Public taxes pay for the roads, the ambulance, the hospital the police, fire department. Who should pay taxes if not big corporations. Especially a country like Italy that takes so much money to mentain its own buildings and history. We don't want Dubai looking buildings. To take care of those cities costs a lor more money than a sky scrapper

And this is just AirBnb… there are so many companies avoiding to pay their taxes..

Strange before the Euro, Italy used to be a cheap country. Food is now on EU level, and the prices on accomodation makes tourists go to Greece, Turkia or Spain where tourists can get a more affordable vacation. What is the strategy here..?
