@Aristowi The amps have a preamp and a power amp section. Very simply put, the guitar goes into the pre-amp section of the amp and this is the part that will add distortion and the tone controls and then goes to the power amp section to amplify it. Most amps u cant split the two but on the mesa boogies u can take the line out after the preamp and then run it into whatever power amp you like (some sound different). Or take the preamp signal straight to the mixing desk for recording if u want
What does he mean when he says that the second amp is used as a power amp? I am not familiarized with the term. And if the two cabinets are set in stereo, why is just one of them mic'd? I'd love to see a full explanation about his rig and connections but I learn a lot with these videos anyway. Thanks in advance.
@Aristowi These means that the effects loop out of the Main head goes out to the other head in the loop return so it goes directly to the power section of the mark V. then that goes to another cab.
@abrahamflako11 his rig is in one side, but once it gets mic'd up the sound comes from the speakers around the stage, he uses stereo not only for sound sources, but to make the effects more interesting.
@fluff191 There is another video witht this guy and it's longer, you can find a link in Petrucci's website, he uses two mics, I believe they are shure SM57 and shure KSM313/NE. Take care.
Well I saw them from the front row and that rig is NOT what john had pointing toward us.. As the picture shows above he had 3 mesa half stacks behind him. So what gives JP were they just stage props for the purpose of selling them?
On this tour and most of his tours, John has mic'd 2 cabs that sit behind his wall of cabinets. Those things that were pointed at you are real cabs but they aren't producing any sound. Sometimes one cab would be hooked up so that he could control some feedback for songs like, "As I Am"
he thinks the mark v is better than the 2c+ thats awesome i think the mark v on extreme mode is sick but the mark iv and 2c+ mode really lack in bass and oomph ... if ya know what i mean
mat mate no1 hi man .. the heads are designed on a1 bridge cards heaps formats found one want for john and i and masters and the the one iwant for my personal rigs. and new fractal designs for stereo centre left right loop and load input bridge drive effects mono loop
Both of them are living the dream!!
"It's really simple" - LOL

@fluff191 Shure KSM313's, Shure's new ribbon mics. Slash uses them as well.

@fluff191 He uses a Sennheiser Condenser mic, and an SM57. Check out premier guitar's rig rundown of Johns rig to see all the dirty details!

Would like to see vid on Hetfield's rig.
what kind of od pedal is that?
@fluff191 the right cab seems to be mic'd with the SM57..
@fluff191 I think they are using the SM 57's and Shure Ribbon 313's
@fluff191 He's got two cabs, each with a Shure SM57 and a Shure KSM313 blended in to get some more low end.

what's the song at the beginning?
John uses a combination of a Shure SM-57 and a Royer 121. The ultimate blend is up to the front of house engineer.
He mics it with a Shure SM57 and a KSM313
Anyone know what that overdrive pedal is?
so does anybody have any idea to what that overdrive pedal was?????
which is that overdrive?!
whats the intro song?
@ibenezjem That's a majik box body blow
A loop system with true bypass?! You can use pedals that don't have true bypass, and the box provides it?! WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT! Damn it!
I don´t know why JP has a stereo signal if his sound is all panned right with all the band.
@fluff191 looks like a shure ribbon mic. dunno the exact model
0:01 What song name?
Where's the "How hot the sun is" control!?!?!?
Bridges in the Sky
i have no idea what he is talking a bout, but i agree
@abrahamflako11 His sound is not all panned to the right its split in stereo like the rest of the band
Shure SM57 and Shure KSM313
he thinks the mark v is better than the 2c+ thats awesome

you can be almost sure they're usng a shure sm 57 ;)
He prefers the true tube preamp, axe-fx only for effects
Neutrik is great!
yes.... "it's really simple"... :))
@fluff191 Suhre sm57 and KSM-313 (these cost more than the two cabs combined LOL)
shure sm57 and a sennheiser MD421
@fluff191 Probably a sm-57
