It’s so annoying that immersive sims like Prey are always amazing games that will forever be underrated. Worse when it shares the name and failed legacy of another very good linear shooter.
It’s unfortunate, but prey feels like the kind of game that could have only been made exactly when it was made, not before, and probably never again after .. it sucks because it’s a fantastic that tells it’s story through gameplay rather than cinematics or even dialogue, which is a lost art in gaming nowadays
The thing I loved about this game is the way the station as a whole feels like a real place where people lived. I mean hell there are a huge amount of named employees that we never meet but are able to find both their work station and where they slept.
And not only that but their emails all line up with the sent and received from what you find on other. It’s all consistent and very well organised and thought out. I can only imagine the colossal effort this would have taken to do this
I found a suit chip that refills PSI over time. Very slowly, but a total game changer. Maxed my PSI pool and stopped even using hypos. Encouraged me to take my time in between nuking the piss out of the Typhon. Gameplay aside, I'm so glad i bought this game on sale. It's truly special. I finally beat it after 54 hours and had to start Dishonored 2 which i already owned. It's amazing of course. I did the same ending as your friend. Blew up the station but did not escape. January zapped Alex before he could destroy her. I wonder why? Also, I've never done an Evil playthrough in any game. I like that the option is there but it's just not me
Fantastic video! My one note is you *can* actually stop the military operators permanently - if you've been playing through the game you've probably noticed that standing before an operator dispenser leads to it issuing a complaint message about how the aperture is blocked, and to clear debris to allow for new operators to be dispensed. So, if you pick up random furniture, and block the aperture on *purpose...* Just another great example of an immersive sim encouraging its players to think for themselves!
There is an optional side quest in the lower level that allows you to attach a psyonic adapter to the water system in Talos I that will keep you supplied with psyonic energy throughout the game so long as there is a sink, or fountain nearby.
Tbh Dahl was quite a trolley problem too. People can judge whether what he wanted to do was good or not and whether what you want to do with him is for the good or not, but you are basically erasing his memory and brainwashing him, bending his will... is quite different from "convincing" him to do something. Btw, very nice video, keep up the good work!
@@EricCrosby @Eric Crosby guys seriously??! He had the order from Alex and morgans DAD to kill everyone on the Station including his own children and you still think stopping him at all costs is questionable? dahl decided on his own to do that nobody forced him it was his decision!! So then You are saying that is better to let a psychopathic Hitman/cleaner like Dahl have his own free will to kill everyone than to do everything including to take Dahl's free will to save them? And you don't think that this line of thinking is ethically wrong or how you put it murky at best? Let me take this example to an extreme, with your logic it wouldn't be ok to k.i.l.l or brainwash t.e.r.r.o.r.i.s.t.s to prevent an attack like 9/11 or the b.o.m.b.i.n.g in London? So you consider the mental or physical integrity of such an individuum higher than that of an innocent group!!? Ps. Awesome vid though, I first thought woow one hour I never gonna watch all of it after that one hour whaaaaat it's already over, that was a hell of a short hour🤣
Finally got around to watching this after I played Prey completely blind, I knew nothing of what the narrative was about or any spoilers. It was an incredible experience, and I loved hearing your take on the moral dilemmas that the game puts the player in. You did a wonderful job on the editing in this video, and it's nice to hear that you took in my feedback from the post you made a while back. Looking forward to whatever content you put out! Much like Arkanes games, I know that whatever you make will be incredible.
I always love when games model physics to an extent like this. Back in 2004, people lauded HL2 as a new benchmark. But even in 2020, very few games can equal HL2’s physics modeling. And being able to pick everything up and throw.
I played Prey in June 2017 (no spoilers pre-playing) and it immediately became one of my favorite games of all time. It still is to this day. I haven't played it since 2019, but recently moved to PC and will be playing it all over again and grinding through getting all of the achievements. This game (IMO) is the most underappreciated game of the last 10 years or so. It's a masterpiece and a game that I continue thinking about all the time.
Something I find interesting about the final choice of the game is that as long as you dont get the actual bad ending then the experiment was actually a success, even if you decide to kill everyone. The fact that its presented as a *choice* instead of the game just automatically picking the outcome based on how many good or bad things you did shows that the Typhon has achieved at least some level of genuine sentience, and with that could very well develop empathy over time.
Or (the interpretation that makes this the perfect horror game) the Kill Them All option could be a sign that the Typhon have learned to mimick mirror neurons without truly developing empathy.
@@filmotter Let me know if you get it... Ive got such a back catalogue of stuff I need to wade thru from the steam summer sale, might be a minute before I can pick it up XD
I've loved this series of video about Arkane games and your point of view about the narratives was very interesting. Whether or not I agree with you about the politic parts, I enjoy your courage to speak so freely and calmly about them .... too few are able to do this, but it's necessary and you're doing it the right way. Your essays brings so much to the videogame's discussion and demonstrate that videogames can be as effective as other mediums at conveying important messages. About "What's Next" part what can I say...... I've recently finished Control and I surely will appreciate an in-depth look and a summary of the New Weird background that inspired it. Last but not least , I'd like to suggest you a game, hope will be a essay topic, that literally changed my videogame experience forever : Outer Wilds, made by Mobius Digital. A space exploration adventure that will bring you among strange planets of a solar system phisically simulated. A story that will challenge you with question about "the Future" (from yours to the one of the universe itself) and your role in life. And it's super fun to play too.
@@EricCrosby I'm so happy you appreciated Outer Wilds. It's almost a year since I finished it and nothing I played after is comparable in terms of emotions and ideas. As always, I'm very interested in your next work.
So I was really impressed with your Dishonored 1 and 2 videos, and was excited to watch this but I had never played Prey. Your endorsement at the beginning of this video encouraged me to play it myself blind and I must say, I haven’t been this impressed on a first play through of a game in years! Fantastic piece of art and fantastic analysis Eric!
I have watched some other Prey videos and essays, but I like yours most, especially that you are focusing on one major point, like empathy in this case. The ending felt weird when I played it, but know I appreacite it way more and I'm looking forward for second playthrough! Thanks for putting extra depth in my favourites (Arkane's) games :)
In another video I watched someone said that the in-universe reason for the silencer in the pistol is the enclosed spaces; firing a firearm in an enclosed spaces like a space station would render everyone deaf, because the soundwaves couldn't escape anywhere.
I have been praying that they make a sequel to Prey that takes place on Earth. Maybe set in chapters where you play as Alex and the Phantom that has Morgan's memories in it. Or just a open narrative like this, I just want to play more.
First of all, your editing and voice over are so good. I've not played this game before but your video convinced me I need to give it a try. I haven't really been looking many shooters these days, but your description of the themes and ideas on display here are making me want to explore it for myself. Thank you!
You go so in depth with these videos and still keep it entertaining and extremely informative. I’ve only seen this and the Dishonored videos but man they should be considered definitive works in regards of reference to the game. Very well done !!!!!! You deserve waaaay more views and subs
I just found your videos after beating Deathloop and replaying Dishonored 2 two more times and I’ve enjoyed your series on Arkane’s games. I never thought about their emphasis on empathy and non-violence until now and you’d made me realize a lot of the deeper messages of their games as a result. I played Prey back in 2017 and really liked it but I never thought much about the ethics side for some reason. Great videos and I hope to see more!
I started watching your videos yesterday, and I loved hearing your appreciation for the lore and mechanics (and all the hard work behind them) of these games. When I first played Dishonored, I was captivated by the idea of actually having a choice. And although Prey was a big challenge for me (I’m terrified of space and aliens lol), I couldn’t stop playing because every email, transcript and person were unique and so, so special. I felt validated while watching this video today.
Prey is by far my favorite game ever besides Dishonored. And to find a youtuber who shares my passions about these Arkane games puts a smile on my face. This is fantastic work
The first time playing this game was truly amazing. I never knew anything about this game, but the fact that it is somehow related to space and what not. And already during the beginning sequence, I honestly just wanted to get to the balcony of my apartment, I picked up a wrench, broke the glass and stood shocked for like 20 minutes just to process what has happened. Since then this game felt like a horror for my whole playthrough. Sadly I never felt this way replaying the game, but it still is a wonderful piece of a game design and artwork I also had a strange occurence, when after deleting and reinstalling the game because of lack of my drive space, I just deleted the folder, but not the save files. So after I reinstalled the game I had no visible saves applied, however, when hopping into a new saving slot I got through the introductory sequence into the lobby for the 1st time and saw Weavers and Telepaths hovering around the place, while I only had a freaking glue gun and a wrench!!! This was shocking, but really thrilling
Thanks so much for these videos. As an avid fan of Dishonored (and recently, Prey), they are amazing and the analysis about the themes and how the player can interact with them are really well made. I just hope more people can discover them.
I actually somehow managed to play Prey for the first time just this week with no spoilers going in. All i knew was aliens on a space station and holy shit did i walk into my newest favorite experience. I love this game so freaking much
Just finished the arkane lore series and I love your story telling and personal impact from the games as a whole. your political views and ideologys drew me in as it validated many of my existing views and opened me to others that may not have crossed my mind I may only be 17 but even a 17 year old can appreciate art and its implications
@@silverhawkscape2677 i will not even bother with a mf who posts genshin content let alone nearly 2 years after I posted a comment that lead me down a great path in life where I'm a much happier person with aspirations
Another good vid. Lets get that engagement up. Also I'll post my chat statement her for posterity: I gotta say, I love hearing someone steer into politics. Seems most game reviews do everything in their power to ignore that politics even exist when reviewing games with obvious political themes.
Because no one wants to hear about Politics. Games are escapism FIRST. Anything political is usually secondary to how fun the game is. Politics is also terrible for a games wider appeal due to how those could be so specific to the country, other people from other countries might not even get it.
@@silverhawkscape2677 It took me a moment to recover from "games are escapism first." I had to breathe for a few minutes. Games are art, first. They are a medium of expression. And art always carries meaning. Even making the statement that your work has no meaning, that it says nothing, means something. That's like, literally how human psychology works. That mean is often, and I would be willing to say inexorably, political. Now your understanding of what politics are might be a lot slimmer than mine, and I guarantee that there are some things you'd call apolitical that I would call very, very political. Hence saying politics shouldn't be in games is rendered, by almost logical necessity, an incomprehensible statement. And finally, art is probably one of the best ways to share your political situation to people outside your country. Videogames best of all. Humans strange emotional meat computers, and being able to feel through a well crafted artistic representation of the on the ground situation in real place that people live in is better then a thousand dry lectures about how bad it is in a place you've never heard of. Also, "might not understand." Are the extraterrestrials? Are they from mars? Did the Typhon sneak in while I wasn't looking? Cause last I checked all earth politics are rooted in the human condition. A transferable experience between us all. Now, having said all this, Of you don't want to talk about politics in games...ok! Fine. Do that! I will not stop you from enjoying art in the way you most enjoy it. If you want Prey to be a game about shooting cups and making eyebrow wiggling jokes about the glue gun, I support you and would dual with pistols anyone who said otherwise. But you ground to stand on saying that games aren't, or are worse when they are, political. Prey *is* a game about empathy. The most important human trait. It says that even if you think the divides between you and someone else are insurmountable, that they are fundamentally unable to understand you, the right thing to do is to see through that lie, and reach out your hand. And the game is more beautiful for saying it. In my, of course, opinion.
@@darklitebug The fact you felt a viseral reaction to people saying "games are escapism first" is telling on what you are it is escapism. Why else do most of Arkane's game have more options on lethal and non lethal choices and how those choices have impact. It is a fantasy. A fantasy to role play into a character you want.
@@silverhawkscape2677 What I am is a person who respects artists and art enough to not think that the first thing on their mind when making games about the choice between vengeance and mercy, or between understand and ignorance, was "Lets make sure this is some quality escapism." Every bit of the text of Dishonored screams at you, in big bold letters, that killing is the bad thing to do. Yes, there are many fun, cool, awesome ways to do a murder in Dishonored, because it would mean anything if there was no loss to choosing to be merciful. Once again, you can choose to only see the escapism, the fun sneaksy stabs. And I get it, the stibity stablies are good in these games. They do contain escapism. But it is untrue that they are escapism first. The focus on the choice between violence and nonviolence is baked into the core of the game.
what I usually do with the nightmare is not just hide anywhere, i find a room that can be locked from the inside and hide there, would be neat if the nightmare had some sort of teleportation/shift through walls power, and indeed could find you if you stayed at one spot for too long
Excellent video. I love all the arkane games, dishonored 2 being the favorite and it's nice to hear well written analysis of those games. Waiting for your new stuff :)
Can't get enough of Prey. It initially looked so odd to me as a game but a friend recommended it so I gave it a try. I agree that it shows Arkane at their peak in game design and storytelling (environmental and otherwise); It has the perfect level(s) with so much explorablility which only gets better with that signature emergent gameplay. I feel that playing it on nightmare (no neuromods) without the HUD and with the broken bones and burns thing, and weapon durability is the perfect way to play it, but only after a first playthrough so that you can get a good understanding of the mechanics; This way you feel really confined compared to before, but you really push yourself to eplore and end up finding out that the game is perfectly balanced to the point that all play styles are equally as difficult.
I liked how you are free to make you own choices. I got the achievement for being as moral as possible, making the following notable choices- -I used both human and Typhon abilities. - I killed the fake cook but spared the subject in Psychotronics (my reason being his records didn't line up with his appearance, backstory, and voice.) -I helped Igwe, Sarah, MIkhalea, and Danielle. I completed Igwe's sidequest. -I spared Dahl. -I destroyed Talos 1 (as I reasoned killing the Apex and the typhon would keep the Earth safer) but Escaped with the shuttle. I reasoned that since I'd be the one trace of Typhon material, the Nullwave might harm me (and if I escaped I could possible help humanity with the powers or die if needed.) -I chose to take Alex's hand at the end.
Excelent video; being originally a Joseph Anderson guy and also having watched his Prey video some 15 times, one can tell you really only got the inspiration. I was expecting the same arguments to be made but no, you made very different points in your own style. Also watched your Dishonored 1 video beforehand and it is also incredible. Keep up the great work! Earned a sub.
Another incredible video. I truly think that this as well as your Dishonored videos are the best analysis of each of their respective games available on this platform.Keep up the good work! Since you mentioned Mass Effect (and since I'm finishing up my first trilogy play through with the remaster right now) I would love to see a series on those games.
Quick reply: Mass Effect is definitely one of my long-term goals to cover when my channel is larger. Deus Ex will be the first 'full franchise' retrospective, and we'll see how that format works compared to the one-video-per-game approach. Edit: Thank you for your kind words as well, it truly means a lot!!
I love this game and replayed it more than any game. With how the ending points out how many typhon we killed, I'm thinking of next gameplay attempting to kill as little typhon as possible, doing it just when necessary for saving people and see what if it changes something lol
Watching this video has made me want to go back and play Prey again. I first played it in 2019, and I know I could play it again now and it would still feel fresh. I love your videos.
Prey 2019 Base Campaign Turbo Virgin vs. Prey Mooncrash Giga Chad Who would win?! YOU DECIDE Lol I'm jk. Great video!! I've been in a Immersive Sim mood lately and of the 20ish recent longer form Prey videos I've watched, this video was very good! I liked what you focused on.
Now i feel like an idiot with the way I played the game, I was just going guns and wrenches for half the game until I realized that I ran out of resources constantly. One time I almost got softblock and almost ragequit, then realized I could load a previous save file, that saved me. After I got super neuromod- upgraded I was glad that enemies respawn, only that I prefered the mimics and phantoms instead of the telepaths, tecnopaths because they hit like a truck. For some missions I already got the items that was required and was like "wait, when did I get this? Well, cool" Love the video. Some "choices" I didn't even notice I was making.
I picked up about 28 psihypos before I even unlocked Typhon abilities, because I rarely used recycler charges in combat. Overusing the recycler charges in combat naturally will make you miss out on good loot if you're not careful, lost a few good turrets that way.
Such a fantastic video 👏. One of my favorite games ever and most definitely a masterpiece. I plan on doing my own video on this game and I plan on watching your other content. Keep it up man you do great work. I'm glad I keep digging and finding more and more love buried deep in UA-cam lol for this game.
A fan twist on the ending is your new game + is cannon. On my last playthrough I roleplayed remembering the nature of the simulation and giving all the right answers in the simulation. So I could kill them all for experimenting on my kind.
More people should play this game. It's a shame we will never get a proper sequel. The arkane team that made this game is no more 😭 It's disappointing to hear that you didn't even play through Mooncrash, one of the best expansions ever made for a game. You're literally not supposed to finish it properly on your first playthrough so letting the timer make u anxious is entirely a self-created problem. On top of that, the story ties into the events on Talos-1 as well. You should really try it again with a more open mind. Once you know what you're actually doing in it, you DO have plenty of time to move at a pace of your choosing. You just didn't allow yourself to get to that point before quitting.
So happy to have found your channel (Always happy to see more Prey content!), this video especially and with you looking into possibly doing one on control reminds me of Joseph Anderson in regards to bits of your perspective on games, this has been a good series so far and I'm excited to see what you do next!!!
I found the pistol (esp. the gold one) to be the most powerful weapon of all. It benefits a lot from upgrades and neuromods that boost damage. It does a lot of damage due to it's rate of fire, has long range and you save on health because it is stealthy. I always wished there was an assault rifle in this game and the upgraded pistol plays closest to that type of weapon.
Hi, great review! Just one detail if you launch the game again: the point of the q-beam weapon is not necessarily to fill up the enemy life bar from red to green although you certainly can, it’s more that the typhons will die from the remaining red part of the bar. So basically the weapon is designed to weakens strong enemies and then you can wrench or shoot them just once or twice to empty the remaining red part so they die. Also, as for every weapon in the game, some typhons are quite fragile to the q-beam such as the telepath techno path and the nightmare. It’s quite something to work on the nightmare with a few recycling charges, qu-beam the damn thing and then using the slow-Mo power to avoid his one shot foot attack, kill him with one final wrench hit. A shame this typhon is poorly designed.
As with just about everything in Prey, "there's more than one way to do it" when it comes to stopping Dahl's operators. If you listen they even tell you how to do it - put something in front of the deployer machine. I loved this incredible game. The only two gripes I had were with Hacking and the End game. Hacking levels 1 and 2 were infuriating on a PC keyboard - their timers were way too short and I often had to retry the same hack more than 10 times to complete it. Levels 3 and 4 were much easier again, which led me to not take Hacking because I didn't want the nightmare of having to play 3 or 4 difficult hacks. When I finally took Hacking 3, I found it inexplicably easy. And by then I had missed out on many safes I could have hacked. With the End game, there were a lot of unnecessary fetch quests and combined with long loading times for every level transition, I ended up watching videos on my phone while I waited. I suggest players try and put Prey on an SSD - perhaps the the end won't be such a chore then.
Look, if you really just couldn't resist trying to get at them damn gamers who don't like politics, at the very list check that your epic own isn't nonsensical. Art and politics don't "intertwine at the very core" any more than art and romance, or art and violence, or art and real life. Art can be about many things, including those, and it can be appropriate to discuss them for some pieces of art. It just as well might not be about those things, and preferring art that is apolitical is no worse than preferring art that is unrealistic. Or nonromantic. Or nonviolent. Ideally, of course, you'd understand the actual position before trying to mock it. When people say they don't want "politics", what they mean is they don't want art to be used for the purpose of propaganda. Prey isn't a piece of propaganda, and no one would bat an eye at you discussing politics in its context. Bringing attention to that makes you look like a fool. This otherwise pretty decent video would be much better off without this pathetic jab.
I had a real hard time with the final decision of what to do in the game, had to decide between Alex and January and just felt clueless because I really wasn’t sure of what would be best since I had the thought process of, well these events will come around again only later if we choose to not go forward so to not would only perpetuate the present state of the world, so therefore Alex is right. The struggle was hard i ended up changing my mind and going with January since i thought were this type of progress to be made again better preparation could be done as the people would know about the typhon and how to effectively protect themselves against them and other threats in the galaxy. The ending was nerve-racking and really hard to make a decision for, i still don’t know if i made the right choice even if it was all fake, i think I did though and i guess that was the purpose of the game. I also didn’t let people in the shuttle, i thought the risk was too high, i also let morgan die as he was also pumped completely with neuromods, i did have paranoia over the people sneaking stuff off the ship and questioned if doing it even mattered 32:13 the bathroom encounter you talk about, I remember feeling really smug about seeing coming as i went into the room and noticed all the taps going off being it attacks you so you know it’s in there
As for Mooncrash, I kind of shared your sentiment of having the run to be timed to be stressful in the beginning. Then I kind of just start buying alot of the hourglass corruption reducing items to get more time and to trivalize the difficulty. I also just do one objective at a time for a run and reset it immediately so you can just farm on corruption 1. Was it optimal or run efficient? No but accepting that i dont need to do everything perfectly and just slowly learn one part of the level at a time made it quite rewarding once everything comes together.
Great video as always! It's funny you didn't enjoy Mooncrash, as I personally consider it one of the best DLCs ever and I was looking forward to hearing you talk about it lol
I also didn't feel like I "went out of my way" to save the cargo bay survivors, it was either that or kill the bunch, and I feel like killing your own crew is going more out of your way, considering they might be able to help me in turn
The problem with randomly respawning enemies is that this discourages inefficient exploration - if you go to an area before you have done the quest that gives you the required keycards to fully explore the area then you need to come back later and re-fight the respawned enemies. This means that you need to have read the walkthrough to play optimally. For example, I went back to the Neuromod division after I found out the safe combination which you know was a mistake - I should either have looked up the combination online and picked up the contents during the initial escape, or else waited until I was given the quest to go to Psychotronics via the volunteer quarters. I had to fight 3 additional phantoms which cost me precious ammunition because I didn't read the walkthrough. This is bad game design.
It's not bad game design lol It'd be dumb if the game was too lenient and allowed the player to conserve god know how much resources, it's somewhat of a survival horror after all
on ending... I played Prey as a good person but confused. With the typhoon's menace earlier on, I agree with January to blow the station. When I met the crew, I feel bad about my secret plan of blowing up the station but considers helping them to ease their last days and they can provide info and help-- plus less lonely in this infested station. Gradually, open up to them and while scared that they may bring a typhoon to Earth.. decide to let them escape-- they may tell the mistakes we made here. During the run back and forth, keep getting these visions.. you are not who you are... wake up... and so on, making me edgy. Eventually destroying the station, finding that it was a simulation, and even the people I save were AI... made me angry. Alex Yu is selfish. I am a typhoon, I realizes how much these humans been cruelly experiment on my kind and they separated me from my kind.. subjugating me, changing me to something else. Time to end these experiments and go back to the collective minds.
Man I love your vids. Hopefully we get another Dishonored some time soon, even tho we cant tell how good will it be. Cant wait for Deathloop video if you choose to make it
19:30 when he’s talking about the Q-beam. At first yes it’s kinda lame. But if you have points in engineering the Q-beam became my go to weapon for the bigger enemies. It gets extremely powerful and has great range. Most of the time I would Q-beam a nightmare until he got up close then swap to upgraded shotgun and blast it away.
These video chapter transitions look like something out of Helix. Absolutely Phenomenal. I love these longform videos and your narration brings a similar feeling to J.A.R.V.I.S. from the MCU but with more...noir. Love these videos and massively appreciate you getting me into these games
It's definitely viable on lower difficulties. On Nightmare, ammo conservation is a huge concern so conflict avoidance becomes a lot more viable than guns out combat. Of course, the upgrades in the human talent trees help a lot with that too.

The Q-beam more... reduces the max HP of an enemy, you only need to shoot a beamed enemy to the green part to kill it
thats what i thought it did, though it is still a bit of a wacky weapon
Yeah, even sometimes I use it to beat down Nightmare (Enemy) with one shot of shotgun. Is just for me long range weapon.
I found a suit chip that refills PSI over time. Very slowly, but a total game changer. Maxed my PSI pool and stopped even using hypos.
I think a strategy I used was to block the operator dispenser using GLOO, yet another use for the GLOO cannon.
Perfect timing. I finished the game for the first time 2 days ago. Looking forward!
It was magical. Probably one of the best gaming experiences I've had so far.
There is an optional side quest in the lower level that allows you to attach a psyonic adapter to the water system in Talos I that will keep you supplied with psyonic energy throughout the game so long as there is a sink, or fountain nearby.
There was? Huh, I should check that out next time.
ooooo, if i ever pickup the game for real (i rented it at redbox way back when) ill have to do a psionic run and go looking for that
Didn't know that. I'm gonna have to do another 30 hour playthrough 😂
Tbh Dahl was quite a trolley problem too. Btw, very nice video, keep up the good work!
Totally agree, the fact is that undermining someone's free will - even for the purpose of saving others - is ethically murky at best.
Ive seen this game in bargain bins a lot, and gets marked down on steam pretty regularly, thanks for posting, looks like something I should pick up!
Same here! After seeing it on sale so many times, I wasn't sure if I should try it. Now I feel like I've been missing out.
@@filmotter Let me know if you get it... Ive got such a back catalogue of stuff I need to wade thru from the steam summer sale, might be a minute before I can pick it up XD
@@OldGamerzNeverDie oh same. The steam sale had so many good games!
Reporting back 9 months later: I finished Outer Wilds and it is now in my top 10 games of all time. Fantastic recommendation.
In another video I watched someone said that the in-universe reason for the silencer in the pistol is the enclosed spaces; firing a firearm in an enclosed spaces like a space station would render everyone deaf, because the soundwaves couldn't escape anywhere.
shotgun sweating intensifies
I have been praying that they make a sequel to Prey that takes place on Earth. Maybe set in chapters where you play as Alex and the Phantom that has Morgan's memories in it. Or just a open narrative like this, I just want to play more.
I just found your channel a few days ago and I'm pumped to see a new video out so soon! Keep it going man, the content is great!
Looking forward to see the video, Prey is one of my favourite games
First of all, your editing and voice over are so good. I've not played this game before but your video convinced me I need to give it a try. I haven't really been looking many shooters these days, but your description of the themes and ideas on display here are making me want to explore it for myself. Thank you!
4:23 I didn't break the screen like that I snuck outVia the front room painting.
Played through this game 4 times and man is it good! Such an underrated masterpiece in my eyes.
Excited to see your review❤️
You go so in depth with these videos and still keep it entertaining and extremely informative. I’ve only seen this and the Dishonored videos but man they should be considered definitive works in regards of reference to the game. Very well done !!!!!! You deserve waaaay more views and subs
The Margrove (spelling) you get for pre-ordering the game and is in your office locker is a GREAT shotgun
Sadly I never felt this way replaying the game, but it still is a wonderful piece of a game design and artwork
I also had a strange occurence, when after deleting and reinstalling the game because of lack of my drive space, I just deleted the folder, but not the save files.
Nice work finishing it man, cant wait to see it
I actually somehow managed to play Prey for the first time just this week with no spoilers going in. All i knew was aliens on a space station and holy shit did i walk into my newest favorite experience. I love this game so freaking much
Critically underated channel
There are not many videos that can keep me hooked for a whole hour
Just finished the arkane lore series and I love your story telling and personal impact from the games as a whole. your political views and ideologys drew me in as it validated many of my existing views and opened me to others that may not have crossed my mind I may only be 17 but even a 17 year old can appreciate art and its implications

Another good vid. Lets get that engagement up. Also I'll post my chat statement her for posterity:
I gotta say, I love hearing someone steer into politics.
@@silverhawkscape2677 Escapism is lame
what I usually do with the nightmare is not just hide anywhere, i find a room that can be locked from the inside and hide there, would be neat if the nightmare had some sort of teleportation/shift through walls power, and indeed could find you if you stayed at one spot for too long
Excellent video.
I didn’t even know what prey was until your video keep it up!!!
I liked how you are free to make you own choices. I got the achievement for being as moral as possible, making the following notable choices-
-I used both human and Typhon abilities.
- I killed the fake cook but spared the subject in Psychotronics (my reason being his records didn't line up with his appearance, backstory, and voice.)
-I helped Igwe, Sarah, MIkhalea, and Danielle. I completed Igwe's sidequest.
-I spared Dahl.
-I destroyed Talos 1 (as I reasoned killing the Apex and the typhon would keep the Earth safer) but Escaped with the shuttle. I reasoned that since I'd be the one trace of Typhon material, the Nullwave might harm me (and if I escaped I could possible help humanity with the powers or die if needed.)
-I chose to take Alex's hand at the end.
5:40 pathologic being mentioned makes my brain chemicals activate
I may or may not have killed Alex after working too hard to get a good outcome because it all being a simulation just felt like a slap in the face 🤧🤧🤧
I killed him in the Arboretum, I just hate the guy. But then I quick-loaded a previous save because I felt bad for killing a human. 🤷🏻♀️😂
Just finished the other videos. Prey is my favorite game ever. Glad I found your videos.
Prey 2019 Base Campaign Turbo Virgin vs. Prey Mooncrash Giga Chad
Who would win?!
YOU DECIDE
Lol I'm jk.
Well, cool"
Love the video. Some "choices" I didn't even notice I was making.
Mad excited. Keep up the good work
Seen all of your essays now and i gotta say theyre exceptional. Keep it up im looking forward to whatever you decide to do next! Cheers
The arkane team that made this game is no more 😭
It's disappointing to hear that you didn't even play through Mooncrash, one of the best expansions ever made for a game.
I really like the style of your videos! Fresh raw take on these games!
Excellent analysis at work in this video. As you say, your inspirations are clear, and a sub is more than well earned. Great stuff
Great video just finished my second play through. Love this game. Great analysis
after watching your video on dishonored I got hooked on your content and loved every second of it
I was expecting a longer look into Mooncrash, none the less excellent video !
So happy to have found your channel (Always happy to see more Prey content!), this video especially and with you looking into possibly doing one on control reminds me of Joseph Anderson in regards to bits of your perspective on games, this has been a good series so far and I'm excited to see what you do next!!!
Another great video. Good job! I am looking forward to see more of your content soon, whatever it might be.
Benedict Wong was the voice for Alex?? That's awesome lol
These are so well made.
bro this guys gotta blow up bro
41:00 wait you can do that? I always just get the medicine first then do the reactor, didn't know she could help with the reboot process.
52:47 The way he flew! :'D
I love physics in games.
Love your videos, you're doing great work! Hope you continue!
I also didn’t let people in the shuttle, i thought the risk was too high, i also let morgan die as he was also pumped completely with neuromods, i did have paranoia over the people sneaking stuff off the ship and questioned if doing it even mattered
32:13 the bathroom encounter you talk about, I remember feeling really smug about seeing coming as i went into the room and noticed all the taps going off being it attacks you so you know it’s in there
The gloo gun is awesome, the gloo gun can also help you walk up walls
As for Mooncrash, I kind of shared your sentiment of having the run to be timed to be stressful in the beginning. Then I kind of just start buying alot of the hourglass corruption reducing items to get more time and to trivalize the difficulty. I also just do one objective at a time for a run and reset it immediately so you can just farm on corruption 1. Was it optimal or run efficient? No but accepting that i dont need to do everything perfectly and just slowly learn one part of the level at a time made it quite rewarding once everything comes together.
Might be the best game I've ever played
Great video as always!
It's funny you didn't enjoy Mooncrash, as I personally consider it one of the best DLCs ever and I was looking forward to hearing you talk about it lol
I also didn't feel like I "went out of my way" to save the cargo bay survivors, it was either that or kill the bunch, and I feel like killing your own crew is going more out of your way, considering they might be able to help me in turn
Thank you so much for these videos. That's all I wanted to say.
It's not bad game design lol
It'd be dumb if the game was too lenient and allowed the player to conserve god know how much resources, it's somewhat of a survival horror after all
Truly superb. Thanks...
Control would be a fantastic video. Control is a Remedy masterpiece.
Glad to see fellow Arkane fans enjoy this content. Beautifully written video. Loved the political bit as well. :)
I was a fan of this and the original prey game,i kinda wish this game carried some things from the og,Tommy's native story had so much potential
on ending...
I feel you about not being able to make a difference
Man I love your vids. Hopefully we get another Dishonored some time soon, even tho we cant tell how good will it be. Cant wait for Deathloop video if you choose to make it
19:30 when he’s talking about the Q-beam. At first yes it’s kinda lame. But if you have points in engineering the Q-beam became my go to weapon for the bigger enemies. It gets extremely powerful and has great range. Most of the time I would Q-beam a nightmare until he got up close then swap to upgraded shotgun and blast it away.
Man that sucks going blind into Prey was one of the best experiences I've ever had in gaming
I beat the game so I can watch this now!
Can’t wait to to see your video on deathloop if you ever do one
i love your vids mate keep doing it ur awesome
I’d love to see ya do a video on cyberpunk man, that’s the 2nd time I heard u bring it up lol
These video chapter transitions look like something out of Helix. Absolutely Phenomenal. I love these longform videos and your narration brings a similar feeling to J.A.R.V.I.S. from the MCU but with more...noir. Love these videos and massively appreciate you getting me into these games
I played Prey like DOOM. I was playing on Normal with no survival mechanics turned on so maybe that olaystyle isn't viable on hard or Nightmare. Idk.
It's definitely viable on lower difficulties. On Nightmare, ammo conservation is a huge concern so conflict avoidance becomes a lot more viable than guns out combat. Of course, the upgrades in the human talent trees help a lot with that too.
Well, you could make whole video about politics in videogames and I would very much enjoy that btw. Great work, again!
This is completely unrelated, but is anyone else reminded of Emily's shadow walk by the typhon?
well done video :)
