    That is a very fine blade, Patrick. Can't wait to see it in the auction. Oh yes, a very fine journey as well.😮😊

    Oh, yes prototype deadlines 😮. The owner of my former company used to buy machines from going out of business auctions. We had a boring mill that was from the early 60s and it got difficult to even find someone who could fix it. Most of the experienced repairmen where either retired or at the cemetery😮😮. Yes, hard to find someone to work on a 60 year old piece of equipment, let alone find replacement parts. Sometimes we had to make parts from scratch. But, the owner thought this stuff was a good deal.🤣🤣👍😃 I'm liking this video, is that Texas chert? Beautiful stone👍😃 🌮🌮🌮tacos are good tonight 😋

      Yes, Texas stone. I was kind of lucky we were not working with old equipment. But trying to keep up with the advances in technology was aggravating.

    Well, you see where I got stumped with it and knew I couldn't go any further, so you win, haha! I made some of my first decent points out of the cortical flakes of that rock that I kept. All that particular Pedernales batch has the same tricks with invisible spots that won't take as much inward force as the others and out of nowhere you get a big, crushed step that ruins what you were trying to make. One thing that helps is just grinding the spot you're going to hit, and bevel it with a finer abrader to make a tiny platform, then put your clean tool tip right on that little platform. That helps the flake initiate in the right direction every time and not randomly turn inward in to a big crunch that ruins your day. I had hoped that particular thin tab wouldn't be grainy and concretey in the middle but dangit, it was. For viewers that don't understand this rock, it's really stressful and complex to work and you did a fine job of of dealing with the problems it throws at you. Bid big and bid often, that rock has a lot of history behind it.

    When you work large pieces of chert you always have my attention.
    If you heat up your chert red hot you can hammer in out longer on an anvil !

    Them flint stretchers is hard to find. Rarer than unused chingaderas.
    You can flint knap while ice fishing, or rather ice fish while flint knapping. Make a flint gorge and catch fishies with it. This one still turned out nice. Ought to be a dandy when you work the edge.

    I bought one of those abraders from Keith at the Knap in. It looks darker and different than yours. Plus it doesn’t look like it will last too long. You get the good ones from them connections. Knapping connections are good El Jefe.😊

    It seems to me that YOU should write a book on flint knapping. I'd buy it.

    What else can I do!” …..Would switching from copper to an antler tools be a good strategy when you start having serious problems with a really stubborn piece of chert ?

    • @KnapperJackCrafty
      @KnapperJackCrafty  День тому +1

      Good question. No, actually, it's the other way around. When having trouble with antler, it usually works when switching to copper.
