Thank you Seramy! I stopped the video to note your formula on neckbandlength in my sewing notebook - so logical and easy to do! I do like the mathematical approach, but usually my mind is to weird-wired to see the smart and easy geometric solution. The percentage-method never felt right for me. So this is my new go-to-method!

Like your approach for the width of the neckline. Indeed the 85 - 90 % rule does not always work.

Mind blown learning about the crew neckline measuring!! The whole percentage method has always seemed mysterious to me...but it also led me to believe that fabric stretch would impact the desired length of neckband. With this measuring method, does it not matter if your neckband has more or less stretch? Love this video, thanks!
As long as your fabric can stretch enough to sew on (since it’s the length of the inner perimeter which is shorter) then you’ll be able to use it. It has its limitations but they’re not as extreme as using the percentage method which assumes all fabrics will work. Some fabrics are not ideal to be used at all and those may be the ones that give you the most trouble or need a different pattern.
