Thin, bushy, tattooed: Our intrepid eyebrows have been through it all. That's why we’re paying them the ultimate homage by packing 100 years of brows in under five minutes-with the help of makeup artist and eyebrow specialist Maribeth Madron. Of course by now we’ve mastered the art of the perfect brow. Getting here was a long road, with plenty of sparse zones and wiry strays along the way. While power brows are in right now-we're looking at you, Brooke Shields, our patron saint of arches -a full natural brow wasn't always appreciated in the beauty world. In fact, eyebrow trends have changed a lot over the past century, and this compilation of looks throughout the years will show you the startling versatility of the humble facial feature.
It all starts with the unforgettable paper-hin brows of the 1920s, courtesy of screen siren Clara Bow, then moves to the tapered arched brows of the '50s, all the way to the Cara Delevingne-esque brows we're all currently obsessed with. However, as the video plays on you’ll see that it’s not just the shape of eyebrows that has changed. With each new trend comes new tools. In the ‘80s, brow gels helped women achieve full, feathered styles, and waxing grew in popularity during the '90s. (Yeesh. Remember that?) Then there are also the more peculiar trends, like the stack of eyebrow rings at the 2014 Rodarte show or the colorful stains that have probably filled your Instagram feed-if not your own arches-as of late.

you totally butchered the 2014-today time period. Insta brows and bushy cara delevigne brows are the trend now. Not piercing all the way brows or colored brows. Trends on the runway are not the trends in our everyday life.

The pierced brows were from a fashion show and they said colourful eyebrow stains are popular in Korea, not really here unless your hair is dyed and you have dedication.

Instagram brows usually have a bold arch. They are lighter more towards the middle of your face, and get darker to make them look more realistic. Then the lines have to be super precise so you're supposed to carve them out with concealer. If you have an instagram, twitter, or basically any social media, you should've seen them before. They're impossible to miss haha.

Pencil thin eyebrows never looked good, I hope it never ever comes back. It was my worst mistake in the 2000s. Its not till just 2017 that they are fully grown out. Took me 17 years man. I'm never going back to over plucking!

1970s brows are harder to define, there wasn't one look that dominated the decade. Some were thin, some were untouched, and some women kept them medium and arched. And then there were the super thin disco brows, too. Beauty magazines sort of stuck with a few looks but women of different ages and lifestyles added a lot more variety.

SIMPLYVAL21 actually, the glitter eyebrows were part fo the giambattista valli runaway in 2016, and i think the glittered gold eyebrows were part of another runaway before the valli one. Its exactly like the pierced eyebrows, only used in a runaway but something that noone would use daily. The so called instagram eyebrows, were used by models and celebrities everywhere during 2015 and then the faded ones during 2016. It was a trending on instagram bc girls and beauty gurus would make tutorials to copy those from celebrities and models. So, it was a big dissapointing to not see it in this video, but seeing some trends only used in obscure runaways and some trends that looked the same

+Sade Ola search giambattista valli runaway, it started there, in a runaway, and i believe i saw another runaway before that in were some models used glitter eyebrows but i dont remember when or which one it was. Also, 3:26 was only used in a few runaways, and never again, it wasnt a thing that everyone had either. At least glittered eyebrows became a trend thanks to thar last runaway.
