    I used system restore in the past successfully in windows 10. I have used Time Shift successfully in Linux. It's a good function to have. It saved me from a lot of headaches. Thank you for the video.

    I use HasLeo for back ups, but I also do have restore points that I keep cleaned up every quarter, as an additional failsafe. Ventoy is your friend as well. Keep an updated windows on that stick if you run into the FUBAR situation. 🤐

    I recently had problems with one of my laptop's running windows 11, i tried windows fix with updates setting..my laptop was still playing up, I tried one of the other reset settings my laptop was still playing up, the way I got back my Windows 11 system working again was to do my own investigating and someone suggested to try doing certain manual fixes and I eventually got my laptop working once again....after I tested my unit for a good few days, I just made a image backup with my backup software and done!!!! Cause you can't rely on the Windows fixes, to be honest!!!

    One workaround i was shown by a very good PC tech many years ago, which I have been using for many years of failed Windows macines is when you use the built in system restore points, often it will return a failure code and not work. The guy showed me if you load into Hirens Boot CD Mini XP and delete the registry backups BEFORE you try to use restore, most times it will re-install a working backup of a clean registry and you can then boot into Windows. It does mean you lose ANY and ALL modfications you might have made to the registry and these would need to be redone, but it can save the hassle and headache of a full reinstall some times. A clean insatll will obviously fix any errors, but some times this is simply NOT possible as a fix, due to sensitive data on the PC or software setups that cannot be lost for whatever reason. THIS WORKAROUND ONLY WORKS IF YOU CAN STILL ACCESS YOUR WINDOWS INSTALL BEFORE you attempt restore.
    If you cannot login to your desktop, you cannot use restore anyway as the repair section of the bootable installer NEVER BLOODY finds any restore points, not matter how many you have saved....the expression "tits on bull" seems appropriate for ALL the so called repair options Windows allows from the installer image...

      So is not a best option is to have a clone backup done weekly/bi weekly or monthly.
      I do clone and also image just in case, using 2 different software on 2 backup disks, so I have 2 backup copies of my PC at any time. I agree you cant rely on any windows fixups and reinstalling everything is not very smart either in 2024/2025. Also that registry backup can also be useless if you store it on your pc, but pc will not boot properly and another negative is introducing additional software into the system that gets more bloated and may not even start at emergency. Anyways Brian's job is to publish videos but my job is to make my system work under any circumstance and make it easiest and quickest way possible. Yet I am ok with using system restore as an option if it works, but I don't count on it at all.

      I’m still on Win 10, AND I won’t use an antivirus because they have caused me various ills in the past even on other OS’s. So what you say sounds very likely a related cause of the Restore failure.

    Regarding the registry backup, why not just use "regedit" and export to a designated location? It's very simple and easy to do and an additional program installation is not required. KISS method. System Restore rarely works without issues. I suggest using a good backup program, such as Acronis True Image, and doing scheduled backups. I do a daily drive image backup to a second internal SSD, and once a month I do a backup to an external drive.

    It seems that all the original system restore functionality is present when you create the “God” folder( the desktop folder that contains all of goodies Control Panel use to sport). The folder is easily made. Just requires a code that replaces the folder name. Found in any type of search.

    Hey bro i have question so my pc is very laggy i tryed everything. I think i need to do factory reset. It ask me for 2 option one is cloud and other is local reinstall. Cloud does not work for me so I am going to try local is there any serious negative effects of doing it this way? Another quick question will the system restore point help me if i do a factory reset like if something fails? Thank you bro

      I think it only deletes once the amount of space you've allocated gets used up. It then deletes the oldest one first.

    Hi Bri is there a way to "over install" windows in a similar way to how it was done when Windows 98 was around where you could just use the windows disc to reinstall corrupt windows files.

    • @geojohnson5613
      @geojohnson5613 2 місяці тому

      I've found that "SFC /scannow" does a good job repairing corrupt system files. When things are not working like they should, or something just acts strange, running this command as administrator usually fixes it.

    As someone who walks people through reinstalling windows on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.. Buy a 8gb thumb drive they are a mere pittance and have a copy of windows handy. I can reinstall windows 10/pre 24h2 windows in 9 minutes from windows to desktop. Save yourself a little hassle. My rule is if I see a non hardware related blue screen aka windows corruption or the os breaks due to registry editing or whatever, I'd rather do a full reinstall then try and dick with restore as it's likely to have bad settings left in it from when you saved or can be corrupted.

      Couldn't agree more. I've been a systems tech for 45 years on both Win and mac systems and the overall best thing is to reinstall.
      I have a Photoshop/Lightroom/PremierePro/AEX plugin business with a few hundred K customers worldwide and see system issues every day in our support. The vast majority are caused by file corruption in one form or another and also hardware issues, the worst being on macs where a migration from an old system to a new one brings over excess baggage.
      The other major cause is doing a major upgrade on top of an existing version instead of doing a clean install...win or mac, doesn't matter.
      When we tell people this, the majority whine about not wanting to reinstall clean when in all reality it not only doesn't take much time but it gives them a clean slate instead of using band-aid fixes like posted here.
      The major hassle comes to the surface about clean installs is that few people have a clue what they actually have on their system or where it's located...in reference to data here. Mac users being the worse as they just poke everything on their desktop thinking that's where it actually is. Documents, pix and other relevant data is never backed up separately and in the end, that is all that really matters.
      People are lazy and look for one click solutions and so channels like this abound. It also creates headaches for guys like us as a customer may have gone thru a dozen different 'fix' scenarios without having a clue what they are actually doing yet they expect us to give them the magic solution that is going to reverse engineer their influencer based messes.
      Sites like this have some decent articles but in general they are only causing more issues as they must keep posting random stuff to keep up the rankings.

    If a person has an I9 with 12 cores should they be using all 12 or just one, whats the advantages of either?

    • @Holycurative9610
      @Holycurative9610 2 місяці тому

      It all depends on what you're doing. Maybe a video editing program will use all 12 cores but a game might only use 6 of the cores and you shouldn't forget E cores and P cores.

    My OS is just that, the OS, no private data at all. Using your vids I can install a backup image in 7 mins, Windows 10 obviously, Windows 11 looks scary with all the new telemetry gathering shi. EDIT: Oh I disliked the video BTW purely for algorithm sake (might save yourself from adding a dislike for ratios and shi) gr8 vid as always although 11 is forign to me, I'll probably need this vid in a few years as Windows 10 goes out of service next year. (I only stopped using windows 7 @ the beginning of this year lol).
