It’s crazy to me how everyone on the oilers train is so positive after that game, like did they skate well with Florida? Yeah, but that’s to be expected. If I was an oilers fan, I’d be on the other side of things. You guys played this fantastic game and not only could you not win, you guys couldn’t even score
I think of, 13.5 minutes into a February 2023 episode of the daytime Eastern Time (via Toronto’s Sportsnet 590 The Fan) Real Kyper and Bourne Show (titled “Leafs head into the All-Star Break”) whose broadcast had begun on the afternoon after the Leafs had lost a 5-2 home game to the Bruins, the clip from cohost Justin Bourne, of: “Who’s going to score?” He claimed to have wanted to know how many players then on the Leafs’ roster, outside the Matthews-Marner-Nylander-Tavares quartet, were going to score goals. That had been after the Leafs had scored, in their then-most-recent game against a then-playoff-calibre team, a pair of goals, not zero. I haven’t lost all hope just yet the Oilers will win a 2024 Stanley Cup, but if they don’t score on Bobrovsky, that series will likely be done, given how traditionally how long NHL playoff OTs have at most gone, at the latest on the a.m. Eastern Time of Sunday 16 June.
Dude I was saying exactly the same stuff during the ECF. Had more high danger chances. Just gotta put the puck in the net.
Difference was Igor kept us in the series long enough. Bob eventually stoned us enough Games 4-6 for their guys to grind us into dust.
I’m sure the Bruins and Lightning fans have similar opinions.

The Oilers played really well in game 1. The puck luck just wasn't there. I kept wishing they would wait for Bob to go down, like he always does, and elevate the puck on his blocker side. The key i think would be to try freezing him before he comes further out in the creae to make the angle tougher. They will figure it out. Maybe a juicy rebound off his pad like they did in the Dallas series. Also, they can not pair Nurse with Ceci.
The 19:35 mark features the start of a claim by Nick Zararis (at times during the 2023-24 NHL season a cohost of the Locked On Flames' podcast) of the Oilers' going back home down 2-0 being harder to win a series with than a 1-1 tie. Respective opening-round NHL and NBA playoff series the Leafs in 1993 (vs the Wings) and Raptors in 2022 (vs the 76ers) featured the relevant Canadian team having gone down 2-0 on the road, with the Leafs' having won their series in 7 games but the Raps' having lost theirs in 6 (after having gone down 3-0 on games won and lost). The Oilers can make life easier for themselves by beating the Panthers in game 2 of this month's Cup final but only if before then they start SCORING on Bobrovsky (something they NEVER did in the 1st game of that series).
Oilers lost to Dallas in the first game. This next game will be good !
They actually won game 1 v Dallas then lost 2 & won the last 3. They trailed Vancouver in games 3 times and won. Point is being down a game is nothing new for them on this run. Go Oil!
