She could’ve killed her at the birth of first born son for Cersei to witness as a masked man etc. so much man so much. This show could’ve been like greys anatomy with the seasons. Can't be a mistake if he isn't done yet. He would have to die for it to have a final judgement. You can't say a ship never arrived if it is still en route. He objectively has no blame in the show's failure at the end. The writers CHOSE to eliminate main characters amd plot lines BEFORE they even reached ADWD, before they even reached Feast. If i wrote two books about a flood and the thkrd book about living on the ocean has not been written yet, it is not my fault if the person adapting my book decides to write about a eternal drought. Now it doesn't matter what i write about a ocean society. The adaptation ruined that for themselves. You can't leave a desert at season 4 and then season five starts and they are suddenly adapting my characters living on boats in an ocean world. They screwed themselves

The Wall probably has some magical properties that prevents Walkers to cross, climb or even walk or swim around it. I suspect there will be some plot with the horn of winter that is mentioned too much to not lead anywhere and someone will blow it and shatter the Wall and allow them to cross, afterwards - this could very well still be accomodated into the 5 year gap.
It's Jon's death that is the problem - how do you want to revive Jon to accomodate the 5 year gap? Jon dies in DwD and then is magically alive 5 year later? Well, you can just not kill him, which would have made more sense for the show because it didn't really lead anywhere anyway - it would be too stupid and probably the least sensible for the gap out of all the other arcs, that along with Stannis and Theon and overall Northern arcs in general where they are pressured for time because their food is running low and dept to Iron Bank is due.

the reason why the last kingdom show worked so well was because it had quite a few time jumps both in between seasons and also within the seasons themselves. this allowed for the show to recontextualise events and was able to pace out the story in away that didn't feel rushed despite the jump ahead in time. the show decided to focus heavily on the mainline events and knew what irrelevant stuff from the books to cut. (there are things in a story that you don't need to see and you can get away with.)
season 2 of the last kingdom had a 3 year timeskip half-way through and there is like 15 years in-between season 2 and 3 then another 5 years between 3 and 4 then 10 years between 4 and 5. with a massive 20 years in between season 5 and the Movie 7 kings must die (with Uhtred in his mid 80s)
game of thrones should have done timeskips in-between seasons and allowed for it's story to breath and establish more permanency which would allow for way more breathing room for the writers.

The Boltons would take him to field much sooner than that if it came to it. Anything regarding a Northern civil war, such as the manderleys betraying the Boltons would have already happened or would not happen at all, thus making it entirely “off screen”. I don't think he should have avoided the Red Wedding, it simply should have happened at the same time Jon gets killed and Dany is ready to leave Essos. That way we don't have a book with Brienne wandering about aimlessly and Cersei messing up pointlessly. We get the Red Wedding, that causes Jon to try to abandon his vows and get killed, Dany starts towards Westeros, Tyrion's trial, Tywin's death, etc. People complain that the show gets worse as time went on, but so did the books, and I genuinely believe it was because George wrote himself into a corner with the Red Wedding.

But Cersei’s ego would not allow her to surrender the Iron Throne to her Daughter. I suspect Myrcella’s compassion and reasoning gained from her stay in Dorne would rally other great houses to her cause. Probably would decide not to go to war with Danaerys as well with the some convincing from Tyrion and House Martell. Sansa and Littlefinger making the Vale their own makes sense, aftrr Lysa died the lords of the vale seemed alright with littlefinger, but littlefinger was a lord who was always plotting something, either he would have married Sansa by now or done something else, hes too busy of a character to just forget for 5 years. Stannis also wouldnt man the castle for 5 years, hes not the nights watch, he would want to take winterfell sooner rather than later given that he had the men, he wouldnt leave the north under the boltons for 5 years. Also Jon had just defeated the wildings, do we assume he just has tormund as a prisoner fkr 5 years and never makes peace with them? Even the army of the dead would have done something by them. Also wtf would tyrion be doing for 5 years with varys until he gets to mereen. No i think overall its a bad idea

There should have been a time skip but absolutely none of those are the reasons why and it shouldn’t have happened after season 4, and 5 years would’ve been ridiculous. They should’ve done a one or two year time skip either after season 7 for season 8 (since it’s clear they wanted to rush to finish the show and if we assume that would’ve still been the same) OR a one or two year time skip after season 7 to continue the story for at least 2 more seasons - which I think would’ve been more reasonable if the showrunners and actors truly wanted to end working on the show. Because we know even with a time skip the show could’ve gone on for like 5 more seasons. It honestly still isn’t really clear to me why they didn’t do this for season 8 and start (roughly) around where Dany is becoming paranoid of the people around her.

The best thing to do would have been making the situations of the characters that need the time jump unknown, leave it to imagination and set up the rest of things up, stannis and cersei for example and give a fresh start after 5 years in the timeline with major changes, leaving it to the audience to wonder what exactly took place and how it happened

Jon would never leave the north to the Boltens, it took him like 5 seconds to decide to march south after receiving the pink letter.

As bad as the ending was, from my experience with HoD time skip.
I’m really glad they didn’t do a 5 year skip after season 4.
I hate time skips in live-action shows.
It works in books, and it works in anime.
Changing an actor-actress for the same role always ruins a show for me, if they kept the entire original cast for the time skip the yeah maybe it would’ve been good.

I agree that this is a perfect part in the story for a time skip, but I also find time skips somewhat “cheapen” the storytelling. It’s impossible that nothing eventful would happen for 5 years to any of these characters, so it would feel a bit odd to suddenly come back to them and have to learn what happened and how they’ve changed without experiencing it.

One problem with that last one... it would not take 5 years to get to Meereen.
We would have to end off the war with Tyrion being accepted as Daenarys' counsellor and that way they'd have 5 years to grow to trust each other.

  • @tjjordan4207

I'm very mixed on the 5-year time jump. I can see it working but it wouldn't have made sense to not having much happening for those 5 years. And if things were happening, we would want to see them unfold. Sure, I would want to see the characters aged up and more mature, but seeing them get there is more satisfying than just arriving there.

  • @ЖенисбекЖамалиденов

Also Edric Dayne would spend these 5 years training and eventually would grow up to be next Sword of the Morning, most likely participating in the Long Night, giving his sword Dawn (Lightbringer) to Jon for prophecy since that got scrapped we got another Dayne for that purpose, men call him Darkstar and he is of the night

The compression of the timeline definitely was one of my biggest gripes with the last couple seasons of the show. Even though it feels like such a waste to have episodes dedicated to showing how long the voyage from Esseros to Westeros would have been, like when they are roaming the red waste, it would have definitely added so much more depth to the story.
Also, shoving the fight against the Walkers into one episode was I think the only real absolute show ruining part of the last season.
I know it had to be incredibly difficult to try to figure out how to do the battle in any way shape or form, especially considering how ungodly the cost would have been, but I think the only real way to do it, would have been to dedicate atleast 3 or 4 episodes, spread out over a 6 month period to it.
I think they should have just had have the walkers slowly descend from the wall going down to kings landing; incredibly spread out and picking up more dead on their way. And instead of the armies making one final stand at Winterfell, they would have to send in different parties to try to get to the back of the line where the Night King is at, and assassinate him. Bran could have sent the Children of the Forest in from behind them, and Jon could have snuck in from the front, while Dany led the main forces at the front of the line, keeping them distracted, as much as they can.

What’s funny is that because it’s a show that has to be filmed one year after the other, they pretended that every season was basically a year apart from each other in the world itself.
Because in season 8 they seem to think it has been eight years since Ned Stark died and the war of five kings began.

  • @thomaswillard6267

Season 5 was filmed in 2014
    Jon 18>23 - 28>29 Kit '86
    Sansa 17>22 - 18>19 Sophie '96
    Arya 15>20 - 17>18 Maisie '97
    Bran 14>19 - 15>16 Isaac '99

  • @Grivian
    @Grivian Рік тому

The most important reason why a timeskip would be good is that the story is quite uninteresting after storm in comparison. Many characters are in a position of study and learning. Something we really don't need to see, also becoming a maester takes many years. Becoming a faceless probably takes a long time, either way since it's mysterious we don't need to see how Arya learns it.

Yes, I think the series would have been better if that five you gap existed. George was worried there would have been too many falshback. But the thing is , we didn't need all the gaps filled in.
Just treat things as a sequel, and write how the characters interact with their new envinroment. We didn't need to know why things are the way they are. That can just be a bit of mystery. And he could have always released an accessory book that lists what happenes inbetween in point form.

I mean, this would bring amazing development of all the storylines, but in the same way the world is so alive and dynamic, ots hard to imagine somebody of main heroes not dying behind the scenes or living through some absolutely traumatic experience, which could be displayed with flashbacks, but overall wouldn’t be so necessary

  • @josefikrakowski
    @josefikrakowski Місяць тому

The problem is five years is too long. So much would have happened within that timeframe, and from the readers POV, we’ve basically just picked up from where we left off despite that, hence why George decided to scrap it
