- A RTC trip on the Tico train from San Jose Pacifico station to Mata de Limon Caldera on 11-02-2007 3ft 6in gauge.
This is the Pacific Railway of the Costa Rica system which was completed in 1910 and was electrified at 15,000 volt in 1930. When the entire rail system in Costa Rica was closed down in 1995 the overhead line equipment was quickly recovered or stolen. Some diesel hauled freight operations resumed on a limited basis in 1999 and later the Tico train at weekends. In 2011 a short section of the line was compromised by the building of highway 27 near Esocobal and during closure some track was reported stolen. There was a feasibility study into reopening it in 2021 but I don't know if anything has happened.
