Not really They scrub the emissions from the coal burning power pants with CaSo4 (Calcium sulfate) and produces a bi product which has the same molecular structure as gypsum which CaSo4.2H20 which is raw gypsum That is then dried and boiled to release 1 and 1/2 H20 molecules That is basically plaster or stucco. That is then added to the mixture to form a slurry which is fed between to sheets of paper at a forming station . Gypsum wallboard is basically an extruded product that travels down a very long board line The board cures BUT needs to dry in a very large dryer to evaporate all excess moisture and make sure all the extra ingredients do their thing like make sure the paper sticks to the core etc Making drywall is a science and an art

I like drywall even less now
