Also worth noting: Beaver dams trap sediment and nutrients at the bottom of the pond, so when dams are abandoned (say, due to an exhaustion of suitable food sources) and fall into disrepair, the drained pond becomes the site of rich meadows, which support a host of additional species.

Beavers are really like environmental engineers! Our crew filmed a project that aimed to bring wilderness back to the UK. We had a chance to talk to a couple who managed to get Eurasian beavers back to Cornwall to transform their farm into a biodiversity hotspot. Beavers are constantly working, building dams, cutting down trees or building a lodge. And this is key to sparking new life into the wilderness. We're curious to see how the farm in Cornwall will respond after the reintroduction of beavers.
Gosh, the animation in this is super charming! Well-done on that, and on the narration. I wish my grade school could have had access to TED-Ed and the many other good educational channels here in UA-cam and on other streaming services.
I would agree that the animation is great. The character designs are very pleasant for the eyes, and the animation in general reminds of the rubber hose style. However, in my honest opinion, there was a major issue; the backgrounds. It is completely fine to have a background that is in a different style in comparison to the animation, because that would make the characters stand out, as we've seen that being used brilliantly with "The Amazing World of Gumball", and it allows the characters to be in an atmosphere that is different from what they would typically be associated with, but unfortunately the colour palette and overall colours used for the backgrounds in this video were too vibrant. Which made it difficult to focus on the characters-since everything blended into the background. Improvement? My suggestion wouldn't necessarily be to remove the papier mâché background, but instead, what I am advising is for them to improve the colour scheme. Following the colour theory, and keeping the saturation, contrast, value (brightness/darkness), and hue in a coherent manner.
@@StellaGoetia666 I hope very much the team reads this suggestion of yours. I didn't notice the background issue when I first viewed it, but now that I've given it a second watch, I have to second that suggestion.

Here in northern BC Canada, we must have the world's laziest beavers. I live next to a very large natural lake and when I'm out in my kayak I see beavers all the time just frolicking in the natural lake not carrying or building anything. I guess they figured 'hey, why build a dam if there's already a huge lake here'. I can relate. But then again, no, could they have ... ? It's an 80 km long lake.
To my family beavers were not helpful, my family had a pond that had once almost 5 beavers in it at once, and they didn’t help. Well they did increase the water level, but that almost destroyed a manmade dam that would of flood hundred of trees.
Why is it that beaver dams are beneficial to the ecosystem, while human dams (such as the Three Gorges Dam in China) are destructive? What is it that we do wrong compared to the beaver's version?
The animation is cute, but I thought it was very distracting. Unlike the usual animation, I would’ve learned the same amount had I only listened to this video instead of watching it. Good experiment though
I have a Beaver Doll from Jellycat, I call him BeeVaaa.. This video reminds me of him back home.. He must have been waiting for me to play with him again..
Wait so why do beavers build dams? I feel like the video implies that beavers build dams for homes, but doesn’t explain why not just settle in a pond or build shelter next to the water.
