VIDEO& BLOG-In this tutorial video I show you how to adjust your rear air suspension on your Harley Davidson touring model. I am using Lurch's 2008 Harley Davidson Street Glide in this video, but the air suspension shocks have been used on many other touring models over a long period of time. Additionally, in the video and this blog I provide you with a recommended preload settings chart.
I had a 2011 Harley Street Glide prior to purchasing my 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special, which had the adjustable air type rear suspension, so I am very familiar with it. I also have a tutorial video and blog on the adjustment knob on my 2014 Street Glide Special suspension.

You will need a small portable air pump to adjust the shocks/suspension on your Harley Davidson touring motorcycle. Harley does make a small portable air pump that has some benefits. There are other companies that make an air pump too.

Thanks again another epic video ride safe 👅
Ryan I have air suspension on my road king 2002 and yes I use the hand pump and the manual says 12pounds of pressure so I maintain that and its the best thank you for the video
I have a 2015 Road King, and it have air suspension, is this common? I thought after 2014 they were all preloaded shocks.
I have an issue where when I pump to 30psi I can’t let out any pressure unless I unscrew from the stem a few turns and it seems to go up and down. But when I screw tight to the stem it goes right back to reading 30psi.
I will un screw it sime and add 50 psi but let out till 20 but if I tighten the stem it goes right back to 30psi
That pump is exactly like my mountain bike suspension pump. They can be purchased at bicycle shops for about half the price of HD pumps.
Yes but then you cant say you paid the harley tax..hence making you not cool🤣
Look at the scale - mountain bike pumps go up to 300 psi and the gradations are coarse in the range you would use for a Harley - so yes, they are cheaper and you can use them but you can't adjust the PSI precisely.
or use a stand alone guage with the bicycle pump.

Thanks dude!

+Bryan Schultz I see there are kits online. Just do a Google search. We haven't done it yet though so we cant give you any real life feedback.

New to the 2011 road glide. Wondering what is a good psi to start out with for one rider. And what is a good psi for 2
We have the actual chart listed our our webpage. Here is a link: www.lawabidingbiker.com/harleyairsuspension/

Awesome thank you. I do have one more question. I am getting my pump tomorrow. I just bought the bike from a used bike dealer. I heard if the shock doesn’t have air in it for awhile that it could ruin its seal. I’m just worried cause it won’t be covered under warranty and they probably won’t do what’s right and fix it
Can it lower the bike if I let air out ?
Where can I get the pump from
These are high pressure not high volume air shocks.. shouldn't the weight be off the rear to add air to the shocks?? My snowmobile essentially have the same air shocks but they recommend you take all weight off before adding air.
What say you??
We adjust the shocks with the riders off. We don't worry about a little weight in the saddle bags.

Ryan Urlacher I was referring to the weight of the bike itself. They do weigh (touring) bout 850lbs...
It's that alot of pressure for the air pump??
Would one need to keep putting in/letting out air every time when you ride with/without your passenger?
Titus Frazier Check out this link to find out the factory suggested settings: www.lawabidingbiker.com/harleyairsuspension/
I like my rear suspension fairly stiff, so I keep it at 25 pounds with or without a rider. Play around with it and see what you like.
I appreciate the help!
Do does dropping psi lower the rear end?
No Jon, just adjusts how the bike rides.

Big Happy No
Does the 50 max change on the older 2003's? Thanks,
We'd have to refer you to the HD owner's manual for your year/model
If I had one. Thanks, @@RyanUrlacher
I can’t find the chart
Is it when we take out some air is going to lower the bike?
It doesn't really lower the bike. It softens the ride.

I "liked" the video but way too much fluff - over 2:30 before you actually started to begin to commence to address the topic - dog barking, pulsing rock music, self-promotion. I get it, but I'd rein it in a little. Not subscribed.
blah blah blah. Its enough to bore you into breaking the law
