I've taken my boat across the Bay to Tangier several times. The people are very nice and rely on tourism. They have two restaurants but do not serve alcohol. It is a dry island. No alcohol...you have to bring your own.....But their families have lived there for centuries. Some leave and go to college and then return. They don't want to leave or live any where else. No crime, no racial discrimination but no McDonalds either. Most make their living fishing, oystering and crabbing.

I have visited this island twice with tour groups. They have a restaurant that serves the best corn pudding and crab cakes I have ever eaten. You are right there is no racial discrimination. There was a black man who lived on the Island and he left years ago. The islanders all speak a language that is sometimes difficult to understand. We rode around in a golf cart. Friendly islanders. I have visited several islands in the Bay. I love that area.

I was born in Crisfield, Md. Right across the way and one of the ferry points. I've actually never been over to see Tangier. I need to before it disappears. Look up Holland Island. That's what eventually it going to happen.

This is what comes to mind when I hear these poor folks talk about God and climate change....
A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.
Soon a man in a rowboat came by and shouted to the man on the roof: “Jump in. I can save you.”
The stranded fellow shouted back: “No, it’s okay. I’m praying to God, and he is going to save me.”
So the rowboat went on.
Then a motorboat came by, and the person in the motorboat shouted: “Jump in. I can save you.”
To this, the stranded man said: “No thanks. I’m praying to God, and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So the motorboat went on.
Then a helicopter came by, and the pilot shouted down: “Grab this rope, and I will lift you to safety.”
To this, the stranded man again replied: “No thanks. I’m praying to God, and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So the helicopter pilot reluctantly flew away.
Soon the water rose above the rooftop, and the man drowned. When he arrived in heaven and finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, he exclaimed: “I had faith in you, but you didn’t save me. You let me drown. I don’t understand why!”
To this, God replied: “I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter. What more did you expect?”

from an ecological standpoint, the wall must first be built before any sand be supplemented... because the sand will only erode with just one or two storms if theres no wall to contain it.... theres actually a cheaper way to do it, but it takes decades to make it efffective----plant mangroves instead of constructing sea walls,

This island is a living history book. These people are the closest connection we have to the original colonel people. Some of them still speak a dialect that is close to Elizabethan English. Im from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. And alot of the times I understand about 40% what they are saying.

Sea levels are the same, the land has eroded due to poor land management. Most Tangerites have homes and businesses on the Shore also, and move with the crabbing seasons.

JW: No. Sea level has been rising. It is well documented by the USGS and NOAA. In Norfolk Virginia, about 40 miles from Tangier, the water level has risen 18 inches in the last 100 years.

@@KB4QAA You are correct about that rate of sea level rise, however, that rate has been happening for over 10,000 years, since the end of the last major ice age. Climate change is normal, in both directions, it's cyclical, with major ice ages spanning ~100,000 yrs. We're still in the warming phase of the last one.

@@peterkent914 Climate change has been tremendously sped up by the actions of humans. What you are referring to takes a long time, unless a sudden event like a huge volcano erupts, a meteor hits etc. occurs. Change is happening literally on a daily basis all over the globe. The Industrial Revolution is what has accelerated it. Plus deforestation. Usually takes thousands of years for the climate to change; this is mostly all man made. There's another video I just watched about what is going on in the bay and all the toxic stuff in the water that's traveling down from the north. It is alarming to say the least.
