My last build was in a Define R5, and my latest is in the Mini C. I'm blown away with the ease of building in the smaller enclosure. The Mini C is Beautiful.
I also want a comparison because I am between thie mini c and p400s and I like more the small form factor of the mini c. The price were I live is 80-to 88 euros for phanteks and 110 for the mini c... ++@)#&)
the p400 looks very nice but its airflow is very restrictive diffrence between the define R 5 and the P400 is 10 to 5 C. i think gamersnexus did that review.
there's barely any difference in size. if you like small builds you should go itx instead. motherboard manufacturers focus on atx and itx, matx never gets love because atx and itx is way more popular. most matx boards skimps on vrm and features too much. there's barely any good matx boards in the last few years. itx took over the small builds.
Had this case since mid-December (Define C Windowed), and I love it. I was certainly surprised, considering the size, how easy it was to route cables and install standard size hardware in a compact case. Now Fractal, all we need is a Tempered Glass version so I can display my parts even better, otherwise, this case is an amazing value and I can't wait to play with more Fractal Design cases in the future!
why did you leave out the scratch test? also please tell me which is better between define C, P400s-TG and the S340 Elite. Looks and performance are the criteria i'm focusing on.
My Define R4 is great, I was able to jam a NZXT Kraken x61 into it and it's survived a full upgrade of parts so far. I would upgrade to a new Fractal case if it had a tempered glass side panel for sure! - One thing to mention, do these cases still come with 140mm fans? I can't go back to 120mm fans.. this would be another selling point fail imo.
We've got the TG version, and it's currently the cheapest of all 3 variants (at Novatech in the UK). The PSU shroud is riveted in as it has 2 of the mounts for the TG panel so not removable.
Hey Dmitry! Your video a couple years ago on the Fractal Node 304 encouraged me to build my first PC in it! Your channel introduced me to Fractal cases, and I always enjoy hearing what you have to say about the newest iterations. The new Define Mini C from this video might be what I help my dad build a computer in soon to move him away from his almost decade-old Mac. 😥 Thanks for all the work you do to cover the latest and greatest!
I just got the define c for my first build and I must say I absolutely love it, the one thing is I wish I had smaller hands so I could actually plug everything in easily
Hey man, A big fan here. Love your camera work. I have a suggestion for this channel. I think you should try some other videos than just reviews. The thing is that I have once built my PC so I don't need to know about every case around there. Maybe I am not that big of a Case enthusiast. Why don't you try doing videos about some PC hardware techniques, Some complete builds or anything related to PC hardware (Overclocking, Fan Mounting, Water cooling and what not) Anything other then review will be great. Hope you read this :)
The point of this channel is to have a MASSIVE catalog of reviews, so lots of information is at the viewers' hands. PC builders should be very well informed on their purchases in order to buy exactly what they want. If you are looking for tech-y PC videos, there are many other places to look. But nonetheless, it would be nice to see.
your literally the #1 channel for computer cases. are you going to make an updated video for the best itx cases of 2017? also wondering if you'll ever delve into guides on sound dampening cases ect. keep up the great content I've watched all your videos
Great review. One question: If you move a 240mm front radiator all the way to the top, will there be enough room for at 120mm fan at the bottom of the front? Just to get some extra air intake for the GPU... Fractal Design says there's room for 3 x 120mm fans - but I'm not sure that one 240mm radiator equals two 120mm fans...
I'm a big fan of Fractal Design's filters. I have a NAS running inside a Node 304. It's been running over a year in dusty environment. The insides are spotless like the day I assembled it. I only needed to clean the filters and I was done!
I was on the fence actually but just ordered the NZXT S340 Elite yesterday. For a measly $5 price premium with the tempered glass I just couldn't resist.
Finally! Something affordable and modular - no useless 5inch bays, HDD and SSD mounting locations are enough but not too many, good support for AIO and really good looking case overall! Fractal Design never disappoints.
Built my first PC two weeks ago in a Mini C. Perfect size for a compact high-end system without being completely cramped. The only downside I can see for some people is the lack of drive mounts (5 SSD or 3 SSD + 2 HDD). Of course this is only a downside if you need tons of drives. I agree about the power button, it feels really nice to press. I honestly didn't spend much time on cable management but I think it says a lot that, as a first-time builder, I only needed the velcro straps to get everything out of way, all other excess cabling fit underneath the PSU shroud.
well I'm between buying NZXT s340 elite and Define C, so, yeah, I would be very interested in a comparison video between the two (FYI the s340 elite is, for some inexplicable reason, 10 euros cheaper than the Define C) Cheers!
Dimitri! Or someone...with 60mm of clearance of space between the front of the case and the drive cage slid back, would it work to fit the newest Fractal Design Celsius S36 in it? 31mm thick rad + 25mm thick fan would be 56mm. Is that too dumb? I was additionally looking at a Corsair RM650x or EVGA SuperNOVA 650W G2. If my math is correct, the case is 16.26 inches - 3.5 inch HDD (add 0.5 for cage..over estimate) - 6.5 inches for the PSU - 2.2 inches for the rad/fans = 3.56 inches of space left. So with that much crammed in there would it be inefficient to buy the 360mm and just go for the 240mm option?
Love the define C. Was debating between 400C and S340 but define C was only case with enough clearance to officially support the massive D-15 cooler in a push/pull setup
I have this case and the power button on this one is friggin handicapped. When you want to wake the system from sleep mode the power button jams and restarts it with all unsaved work gone. Learned the hard way a couple of times!!
Compare the NZXT s340 Elite with the P400 Tampered Glass please. Price is pretty much equal (atleast, here in Europe), they're equally popular... What's the better pick?
It's 2019 and I spent hours just to find a used Define C with a (non-TG) Window. This and the Meshify C are literal perfection in my eyes, but I like my bezeled acrylic!
I am a fan of your filmmaking here's my story Dimitry: it was time to sleep and I was scrolling through pages of UA-cam I saw the hyper beast video on my 720p phone and 5 seconds later I automatically said - "beautiful" and thus it resulted me in getting my headphones and my 1440p tab @ 11pm @ night and a scold from my parents to see that amazing filmmaking. but it was worth it :D
I'd love a comparison between the Define-C and the NZXT S340. Torn between these two cases and would like to see your opinion on the two compared to each other.
I just got the Define Nano S a couple months ago but miss the ability to add more expansion cards and so on. Darn oh well. Perhaps I will get the Define Mini C and C if I can return the Nano S.
I say define C, but thats probably because I have a define S and am biased. Define cases have better airflow than the P400, and i'm willing to bet that it has better build quality too. The fans that are included with the Define S are super high quality, so I assume the C is the same way. I do think the P400 looks nicer though. Check Gamer's nexus' review of the P400 for more information.
I just built a system for my brother about 2 weeks ago using the Mini C - and loved every bit of it. So much, that I've been thinking about replacing my Define S and ATX motherboard. Great review :)
What's the case with the cool dragon design at 0:10, please? Seems to be NZXT branded, but I can't find this exact design. Ah, I found it. NZXT H440 Hyper Beast Limited Edition.
Using the Mini-C and well I really do like the case my only 2 negatives is the hassle of getting to the front filter to clean and the design of the filter itself, as mentioned in the video.
Thank you, HWC and Dmitry. I've been trying to pick a case in this price range and was surprised you didn't have a review of this one yet, so the timing of this video couldn't be more perfect. Now for a three-way comparison between the Define C, the S340 and the P400S and I will reach the state of complete inner peace. That or winning the giveaway, naturally. Good luck, me!
For on-camera stuff i was still battling a cold so i sound different, but yes i do use different mics. A Sennheiser lavalier for on-cam stuff and AKG C314 for main voiceovers.
Hai. I just got a 'novice question' for pc build -> for Define Mini C, since the front fans doesn't reach the PSU shroud, won't the PSU get too hot? Or is it able to cool itself well enough by its own? Thanks,
I'm wondering if my psu (Corsair RM750x) will fit in the mini c. Their website says it'll fit a maximum depth of 175mm but mine is 180. 5mm isn't going to make a damn bit of difference is it? Especially not with shorter and more flexible sleeved cables. Apparently my psu isn't even supposed to fit in the Arc Mini but their measurements assume you're using the bottom fan mount. But the Arc Mini is a lot longer than the Mini C.
built my rig into a Define C. Using a 360mm rad in front and 240mm at the top. Very easy to build and very good quality. This is an easy case to recommend!
Great walkthrough of both cases. And I agree that it is a bit odd that they didn't leave out the corner on the optional shroud for the 6-8pin cable routing. But easy to dremel for anyone who wants it I suppose.
I learn every time something new like presentation, Product introduction, camera operating, detailing of products from Hardware canucks review videos.I appreciate him .
Why go smaller? I think that's a fair question and I'd have to say for portability and if we're talking portability I'd like to see cases on their side (aka the largest side facing up) as the gpu usually has more support and this design naturally caters towards more compactibility. I know the next case I buy will be under 20 liters in volume.
I'm looking for a very portable case (carry up/down several flights of stairs and to/from my car every few months), but I don't want to buy a new video card (I have a fan GPU and I'm worried about temps) Would the mini c or the nano s be a better option for me?
I've been struggling to pick between Define C and Define S. Define S can do 3 140mm fans in the front, while the Define C can only do 2 140mm fans, but has a PSU shroud.
Will you guys be making brackets for the new AMD ryzen AM4 socket? for your AIO's ?? I already have a Kelvin S36 that i would like to use for the new socket
The define C is a direct competitor to the pro m. I have the pro m and it's a neat little case, but the define c really picks up the pro m's shit. The slide-able hardrive enclosure at the bottom is handy if you're doing afront 280 rad because i had to take mine completely out and my hdd is not seated correctly now. Also the top seems to be a lot better for accommodating top mounted cooling.
Has fractal upgraded from this and put tempered glass? I like the price point in this case and everything it comes with. Also can anyone weigh in on the padding if its sound dampened?
Fractal Design does not do business in my country, India, so I guess this giveaway is the next best thing. Thanks Dimitry! PS: Dimitry if you're in touch with Fractal, please advise them to expand into India.
Alwin Crasto same feeling bro..we have to buy corsair or cooler master cases. No other decent options. India is a good market, I don't understand why companies don't launch their products here. Same with Dell XPS 15. They sell shit here.
After you mentioned the previous cases (define S, R5, R4, ..) a comparison or special-video (if you get the predecessors on the used market) would really be mind-blowing! I wonder: *Is there something like a retro-pc-case market!?* What where the "best cases" of the last 15 years? I'm still using my chieftec from 2003 tho ...
Thx for review! Hi, I have gtx 1070 founders edition and now I'm looking for case. I worry about temps and noise of reference card. Which will be better: fd define c, meshify c, core 2300? Corsair carbide series 400q?
I'm in the market for a new case and am debating this case. The Mini C looks better due to it's proportions. I think the standard C looks a little tall and skinny. The case definitely needs tempered glass, I'd love a dark tinted glass window and if this case had one then I would buy instantly. As it is then I'm also considering the NZXT S340 Elite.
Would this case provide adequate airflow for modern for a 2018 build? Ryzen 5 +1070ti... Is it improvement over 2016 define mini c.. which came with 5.25"
I have 2 of the the Define C Mini 's and the New MITX version too for my HTPC. These cases are great and price is all under $80 with the ITX one at $60
Think I could throw a 240mm(cpu) rad up top AND a 120mm rad in the back(gpu)? GPU is 289mm, so I don't believe I can put it and the 240mm rad in the front. Any help would be appreciated!
Dmitry, the Define Mini-c or the Corsair 270R, which is better, in terms of feel, quality, and ease of building? Both windowless versions though, but window is fine too.
I have my p400 and I am wondering if define C is better in comparision with p400s tempered glass edition (In my country they're simillar in price). I was keeping my eye on s340 elite, but a dealbreaker for me were a shrouds for storage drives. What do you guys think. And I'd love to see a review for an upgraded p400s
I'm in the same situation. For me the problem is that my pc's under my desk, so the side panel isn't even visible. Because of this, I have no need for tempered glass, it would only add unnecessary weight. So I really want to buy a Mini-C, but I can't find one in my country. I'll probably just buy the big brother C without a side panel. I like it that the removable top is one solid plate, not two, like with the P400S. Still, both cases are fantastic, providing anything you'd need, without unnecessary bling.
I just build a Fractal Define R5... i would love to have a PSU shroud like that, but this C version lacks the 8 HDD drive slots and i need those... because its supposed to be an unRAID NAS Box.
what is about the case cooler noise? i use at the moment a bitfenix raider with a integrated speedfan control and i use alltime the lowest speed from my case. makes it sense to buy that (i would buy a new case with a window and ps case,my bequiet sp is not modular and the cable use very much space)
I've been needing to do a CPU upgrade but to do that I need a new motherboard, for my case I'm currently using a FD core 500 but I want a m-atx motherboard and the FD define mini c is the case I want to upgrade to!
I liked your performance in guardians of the galaxy xD
Vampires Crypt You better start addressing him as Starlord
My last build was in a Define R5, and my latest is in the Mini C. I'm blown away with the ease of building in the smaller enclosure. The Mini C is Beautiful.
Can you compare this with the p400s
Matt Bracciano wondering the same thing
Michael Liebrich yeah I'm curious too I hope he will.
Please do comparison between p400s tg with s340 elite and this one. I would appreciate it. Thans.

Where are the winners of the fractal design case posted? I'm trying to find the results online and I can't find them.
I can't go back to 120mm fans.. this would be another selling point fail imo.
only rear (outtake fan is 120) Front (intake) you can have either
We've got the TG version, and it's currently the cheapest of all 3 variants (at Novatech in the UK). The PSU shroud is riveted in as it has 2 of the mounts for the TG panel so not removable.

If u want RGB and less fan noise I recommend the Phanteks Eclipse P400S or the P400
Dremel a hole for the PCIe GPU cables? Mine is on its way, and figured that could be a great mod to improve the clean layout even further.
your literally the #1 channel for computer cases. are you going to make an updated video for the best itx cases of 2017? also wondering if you'll ever delve into guides on sound dampening cases ect. keep up the great content I've watched all your videos
Great review. One question: If you move a 240mm front radiator all the way to the top, will there be enough room for at 120mm fan at the bottom of the front? Great choice :) S340 Elite is awesome... if only Define C TG was a thing!
I just can't get past the fact that it doesn't have a tempered glass side panel. If it did, it would be a for sure must buy
ASAP Gouda they both have it now lol
ASAP Gouda yea I can’t buy a case without a tempered glass smh I need to see my money at work lol
Those two cases, and possibly corsairs 460x, are the exact cases I'm on the fence about. Would love a comparison, I'm leaning s340 elite.
Finally! Something affordable and modular - no useless 5inch bays, HDD and SSD mounting locations are enough but not too many, good support for AIO and really good looking case overall! Fractal Design never disappoints.
NO TEMPERED GLASS!?? What year is this, 1784???
no it's 2017
Rqb He's being sarcastic
sherlock...
NO RGB LIGHTING? I guess it's more like 1485
So.. what kind of glass does this use?..
The Define Mini-C is probably one of the best cases I've ever seen with such little complaints from HWC, good job Fractal Design!
well I'm between buying NZXT s340 elite and Define C, so, yeah, I would be very interested in a comparison video between the two (FYI the s340 elite is, for some inexplicable reason, 10 euros cheaper than the Define C)

gorg sameeee
Where did he get the beautiful power cable from?
Jesus, those thumbmscrews are TIGHT!
Very happy with my Define C - love the small footprint and cable management, and it's very quiet.
Compare the NZXT s340 Elite with the P400 Tampered Glass please. Price is pretty much equal (atleast, here in Europe), they're equally popular... What's the better pick?
I'm deciding between the Define C and S340 Elite right now for my next case so I would love to see a more in depth comparison between them.
fractal dont need tempered glass to be awesome, classic ftw
It's 2019 and I spent hours just to find a used Define C with a (non-TG) Window. This and the Meshify C are literal perfection in my eyes, but I like my bezeled acrylic!
What about the Phanteks Enthoo Pro (M), or even the tempered glass edition? All are below 100$ and worth every cent
no bad. looks good. as always. imagine the layout and size of the define s with all the key points of the define C. nice one guy thanks for the video!
I am a fan of your filmmaking
here's my story Dimitry:
it was time to sleep and I was scrolling through pages of UA-cam I saw the hyper beast video on my 720p phone and 5 seconds later I automatically said - "beautiful" and thus it resulted me in getting my headphones and my 1440p tab @ 11pm @ night and a scold from my parents to see that amazing filmmaking. but it was worth it :D
I just saw that video and saw you commented!

define S is better for watercooling though right?
I'd love a comparison between the Define-C and the NZXT S340. Torn between these two cases and would like to see your opinion on the two compared to each other.
I just got the Define Nano S a couple months ago but miss the ability to add more expansion cards and so on. Darn oh well. Perhaps I will get the Define Mini C and C if I can return the Nano S.
I'd love to see either a comparison between the Phanteks Enthoo Evovled TG & S340 Elite or Define C & S340 Elite!
Help me out here -
P400S or Define C?
My build will involve air cooling and an RX 480
P400s Tempered Glass.
I say define C, but thats probably because I have a define S and am biased.
Define cases have better airflow than the P400, and i'm willing to bet that it has better build quality too. Check Gamer's nexus' review of the P400 for more information.
P400S or Enthoo Pro M TG
Got an air config with a 7600k and rx480 from msi in a define c and its perfect!
+Phil0014 How are your fans set up? Stock or added/replaced?
i would love to get a tempered glass version of this or change the leg on s340 elite. Sucks to not have both.
I just built a system for my brother about 2 weeks ago using the Mini C - and loved every bit of it. So much, that I've been thinking about replacing my Define S and ATX motherboard.
Great review :)
why did the 5.25 inch bay is face out.
or nobody uses CD/blue ray anymore ?
or is it easy to use a USB stick?
What's the case with the cool dragon design at 0:10, please? Seems to be NZXT branded, but I can't find this exact design.
Ah, I found it. NZXT H440 Hyper Beast Limited Edition.
I have the define R5 and ya the lack of a dust filter on the top sucks but dam that power bottom is amazing.
Where is the braided kettle plug/3 pin power plug from?!
Would I be able to install a NZXT Hue+ on the SSD caddy? Is there enough clearance?
Heckie Cormack just put it on top of the PSU
would a dual aio setup work here? one in the front dropped into the drive bay and one on top?
if not would it fit an nh-d15?
Which one would you personally suggest, and why?
Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mAtx or Fractal Design Defini Mini C?
Why are power plugs for GPU's on the front right? They should be moved to the back/very left close to expansion slots
Great walkthrough of both cases. And I agree that it is a bit odd that they didn't leave out the corner on the optional shroud for the 6-8pin cable routing. But easy to dremel for anyone who wants it I suppose.
Nice review, I was considering buying this case (mini), but that blue led :-/
so I went for phanteks
It's all great, sleek and modern, but where do you put a pump and res in here?
I learn every time something new like presentation, Product introduction, camera operating, detailing of products from Hardware canucks review videos.I appreciate him .

I'm looking for a very portable case (carry up/down several flights of stairs and to/from my car every few months), but I don't want to buy a new video card (I have a fan GPU and I'm worried about temps)
Would the mini c or the nano s be a better option for me?
I totally wanna see it compared to the S340 (elite)! I'm looking to replace my Arc Midi R2 and while I love Fractal, dat tempered glass.
10:00 baby!
Meowess why don't you just do your fuckin business...first get some information about high shipping costs and that too this size big parcel.
Meowess everyone is not rich bro...just stop digging on ur rich father's money
Maybe you can be a reseller? Business opportunity right there.
Hisyam M. bro it's something call investment which u need..
What GPU did you used for the setup?
I worried that MSI Gtx1080ti Gaming X and Kraken X52 won't fit this case..
just wondering, is sharkoon cases good? I saw it on my local PC building shop and the price is quite cheap though
Would it be possible to DIY the power LED without danging the case.
Would this case provide adequate airflow for modern for a 2018 build? Ryzen 5 +1070ti...
Is it improvement over 2016 define mini c.. which came with 5.25"
Using the Define C Temp G when i'm building my first PC in 8 months, if it's still for sale. love how simple the case looks.
Hi. How many fans can you put on the front? 3?
Hey when will you review the phanteks p400 and p400s tempered glass edition case?
I bought this case for a Valentine's day M-ATX build for my girlfriend. Fantastic case, not many complaints so far.
I have 2 of the the Define C Mini 's and the New MITX version too for my HTPC.
These cases are great and price is all under $80 with the ITX one at $60
Who still bought this case in 2021? this guy did , still one of the best micro atx cases i have ever had the pleasure of building in
I'm going to get the Define C soon ☺️
@@camotech1314 i just finished a mini ITX build in the Node 304... Old case but also very good quality and again lovely to build in.
+Uiriamu Busujima definitely the Define C.
HardwareCanucks Thanks for the reply!
Would a Corsair H115i fit above the motherboard in either of these?
I just build a Fractal Define R5... i would love to have a PSU shroud like that, but this C version lacks the 8 HDD drive slots and i need those... because its supposed to be an unRAID NAS Box.
who is watching when Fractal has finally introduced Tempered Glass ;)
Can you please do a review of the phanteks eclipse p400s tempered glass edition?? Thanks!
MCspartan Games it's the same case no ? do they fix the top fan slots ?
Lenskha i really don't know! That's why i want to see a review on the case
but... can the Celsius360 fit in the front with the drive cages moved back..?
I own a Define Mini C - and I can't figure out how to open the front panel safely.
Do I just yank it out? I'm afraid I might snap something..
what is about the case cooler noise?
i use at the moment a bitfenix raider with a integrated speedfan control and i use alltime the lowest speed from my case.
makes it sense to buy that (i would buy a new case with a window and ps case,my bequiet sp is not modular and the cable use very much space)
I do love Hardware Canucks's style of reviewing, simple yet to the point. Excellent review as always. ;)
Was a NZXT x62 or x52 used in this vid?
I have a Fractal Define R5, if I order PSU shroud from these case, will it fit on the R5?
I've been needing to do a CPU upgrade but to do that I need a new motherboard, for my case I'm currently using a FD core 500 but I want a m-atx motherboard and the FD define mini c is the case I want to upgrade to!
Can the radiator be put at the top to have enough space for a 1080Ti?
