  • This week, a new friend MOVED IN with us after her van broke down...and it might not be the last time 😳 From living in 40 square feet with four beings to a broken sink & a financial reality check, this week served us all a healthy dose of the REALITY of living on the road.

Personally, I enjoy youtube content that employs at least some level of problem solving or education.
While it's nice to watch people do things in beautiful places, after a while it seems sort of.... empty. But, watching someone overcome the challenges of living, with a smile on their face? Pure Gold.❤

As a backup when you don't have "running" water buy a collapsible sink to pour water in to wash dishes, sponge bathe, wash hair, and even wash out small clothing items. I live in an apartment and I have a coin laundry room for $1.50 to wash clothes and $1.00 to dry yet for everything except bedding and towels i choose to wash my clothes in the sink by hand and hang to dry on the shower rod in bathroom. Sometimes you have to resort to alternatives the old fashioned way. Sorry for all the breaks in your rig and Maddie's troubles with her Van. It's never fun for sure weither you live in a vehicle or sticks and bricks. Glad she had you to stay with to help her out in times like that. Although sharing struggles, by eating a cozy meal together and having a sleepover with a friend will be a fun memorable moment you'll look back on despite the circumstances. Looks like the doggies🐕‍🦺🐕had an enjoyable time together too. ❤

Yes, Maddie is lucky to have you as a friend. You've helped her so much when it comes to her dealing with her van trouble. I can only imagine how frustrated she must feel and everything when it comes to her van and to see her smiling, laughing, and everything thanks to you... It's a good thing that you're doing for her. It's always good to see that there's still some really good people out there that's willing to help and be a good friend.

Good job, but word of advice. Always wrap plumber's tape in the direction that the part to be screwed in goes, which is usually clockwise. This makes sure that it doesn't get pushed back in the threads and ripped apart. Perhaps I'm wrong but it looks like you applied it the opposite way. I found this out the hard way as I used to do it that way myself.

Old mechanic, from back in the pre computer/ code reader days.
Here's the deal. These new vehicles are almost totally electronic dependant.
All that stuff causes cascading system failures.
Also, stay away from problematic, very expensive to repair vehicle lines,Like Range Rovers/Mercedes/ etc etc
There's a old saying, "Friends don't let friends buy Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep" lol I'll second that!
All of the above, and many more, are a lot of guaranteed problems.
I was into old British motorcycles, many decades ago Constant work on the junk "Lucas Electric Systems" just goes with the territory.
Research in repair forums, for the model you are thinking about buying, before you buy. Save yourself a lot of problems,by avoiding trouble plagued models.
For instance, you couldn't give me a new Ram "ProMaster" because it will be nothing but trouble...
It just is what it is....

Wow, I may not live full time in my camper, but I have to tell you I spend extended periods of time off grid even through the winter months. In such a small space if you don't keep it picked up and clean it gets groady pretty fast. I couldn't envision living without water, heat and shower facilities. If you leave your camper sink full of dirty dishes/food smells in northern Canada you could very well be inviting unwelcome visitors. Two of you and your dogs crammed into that camper with no sanitation is pretty bad even for one day. A little saying I've heard is if you don't want to be food don't look or act like food. Please be careful.

Ladies, make a stone bed fire if possible. It needs to be at least 2 feet wide, 6 ft long 6 inches deep. Gather up as many big stones as possible. The bigger the more heat they store.
Clear out an area the you truck can park ove the pit.
    Later.
Place the stones within the pit. Gather up firewood to cover all of the stones. I forgot place the stones in a sandwich of firewood. This is a task. Then use charcoal fluid evenly over all of the wood and stones. Remember to clear any brush. Safety first. Keep a fire extinguisher close. Then build up the fire until it turns to red coals. No flames. Then cover up the stone fire bed with dirt, it will smolder for hours. Pull your truck sleeping area over the bed. If you want. That heat will keep the under carrige warmer for hours.
I suggest you set up a small prototype first.
Be careful it works. In extreme cold dry areas best. Not raining you must cover the bed with dry dirt. Wet dirt will put out the bed.
Does that make sense? Good luck. Use the buddy system in freezing cold. To extend your resources.

  • @stevestouchupcompany5994
    @stevestouchupcompany5994 6 місяців тому +1

Ladies, fyi. In the event that your heater stops working in freezing weather. Gather up dry, very dry rocks. Make sure they are dry not from a river bed.
Then boil them like eggs maybe 15, 20 minutes.
Then place them in cotton socks or pillow case. Then into your bedding . Also keep some 7 day candles the tall ones in glass.
Burn them as needed in the sink, incas of spill. They will kill the freezing the inside of your camper. I would say keep a case on hand.
If you burn them crack a window accordingly. The lower the floor the warmer you will be.

I've been watching both of you for some time and really enjoy the slight contrast of late but I really enjoy the reality side, I'm not a IG maniac because I know that's all creampuff moments with make-up and unicorn rainbow farts.... BORING !! I also wonder about the reality of schoolie life, I drive about 7,000 to 12,000 miles a month for a international company and see a very fair amount of "RV's" in various states of repair housing some very interesting and some shady folks and a few meth labs so I wonder what your candid opinion is and would love some of those stories ... and I know you'd know... maybe since I'm a guy in my 50's alone and in hotels 50 weeks out of the year (and no time to build out my box truck) I should take up looking for a life because ... this just sounds like I have NONE, but I'm so damn happy, living simply and through others like you, Thanks for sharing the stuff that makes you feel vulnerable ... as I just did I guess

just an FYI,, although people that have homes, as in a house. They may offer that you can come stay with them, they may offer to do what they can for you. Although we should always be grateful and blessed them where we can, unless their home gets taken by a tornado, or some other natural disaster, they will never understand truly what it’s like to lose your home,, even temporarily. I know some beautiful people that have never lived the nomadic lifestyle. They think the nomadic lifestyle is something that they can handle with ease lol. I’m not slamming people with homes. Not at all,, only wanted the nomadic community to understand, that they just don’t, know.
