Thank you so much, Paige. I have recently started dealing with panic attacks and agoraphobia. I haven’t had a good night sleep in a month and I’m terrified and desperate. Your videos give me hope, thank you💜
Hi Carla. I am so sorry. I am creating an online course for people with panic disorder and agoraphobia. It will be available in approximately 90 days. If you are interested in learning more please email me at info@paigepradko.com.
I experienced sleep difficulties after the birth of both my two children. I have experienced a psychotic break that may have been exasperated by waking in the middle of the night to nurse. After I had to take Seroquel for 1 month I began to fear sleep and associate it with anxiety and panic. After my second baby was born I experienced extreme anxiety and panic attacks daily and became terrified to sleep. Now nearly 4 years after that I have learned so much from wonderful practitioners who have UA-cam channels. My sleep is more relaxing now and I do not get panic attacks lately. My tips are: 1:Relax for 1 hour in the daytime. Stretch and lightly exercise your muscles to prepare them to relax later at night as you sleep. 2: work on keeping happy, pleasant thoughts in your head all the time. If you get terrifying thoughts tell yourself "I allow myself to think anything at all. I am not my thoughts" Then the scary thoughts will leave. They come back but you can ignore them. Think about the beach and warm water, a pleasant forest that smells good, a great day you had in the past. Then your mind will pleasantly drift off without anxiety. 3: keep your bedroom a bit cooler even in winter. This will help you get to sleep quicker because your body temp naturally drops when you're sleeping. 4: I take supplements that give my body precursors to various neuro transmitters that the brain uses to make me sleep. I eat a healthy diet and exercise. 5: No phone or TV close to bedtime. Give myself an hour or two to wind down. No checking UA-cam notifications late at night! Paige thanks so much for this channel. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
Thank you for such informative comments. I think people can be helped by what you shared. Sounds like we both developed sleep anxiety and sleep problems after we had children. I think that is mother nature’s way of making sure our children are cared for...but it sure is frustrating. I believe in cases like ours, the sleep anxiety begins as a result of insomnia or sleep problems. Then, our brains begin to get anxious just by thinking about bedtime. So frustrating. But, given time, and healthy regimes like you explained, we can turn this around. I am so sorry that you went through so much, but I am happy to hear that you are working on it and making progress. I wish you a wonderful holiday as well. 😊
Thank you, Ajinkya. Part 2 is coming out next Monday. Unfortunately, I lost the person that was doing my graphics, so I may take a break after next week. Thank you as always for your kind words.
Hi! I’m dealing with pretty acute sleep anxiety and insomnia currently. It started with a bit of health anxiety that caused sleep disruption and then quickly moved to insomnia (there was a point I couldn’t sleep for two days and had to go to the ER) because I panicked and now have all day high anxiety for over a month and issues with even falling asleep at all at night. Before this I used to not really have sleep issues, aside from being a light sleeper. Currently starting therapy, and had to start on an antidepressant for the anxiety, as well as hopefully short-term use of sleeping meds (bc I still can’t fall asleep at all on my own) while I get anxiety managed with the AD. This isn’t ideal, but of course my only way out currently, since my sleep issue is anxiety-related. I wake up every night with a panic attack, or at least heart palpitations...and it seems my body has habituated to this cycle bc it happens every night. Most alarming though, is when I lay down, right before I fall asleep when head hits pillow, no matter how tired I am...it’s like my brain pushes the on button instead of off, and I can almost feel this surge in my brain and then throughout my body...the the usual heart palpitations and alertness. My body just won’t let me drop off into sleep. Is this a panic attack just between wake and sleep? If so, how to even counter if I have no control? It’s like my body forgot how to sleep. I’m hoping managing my overall anxiety will get rid of this, but wondering if you have any specific tips for my case? Ty so much, it’s been so distressing for the last couple months trying to untangle this all.
I hope I answered your questions on the other posts. I suggest talking to yourself when you go to bed tonight. Tell your brain that you are accepting and allowing it to wake you up and understand why it has associated sleep with fear and panic. You know that it is unsure whether you feel safe or not. Tell yourself that you feel safe and calm. You understand that your body will need time to adjust. You are allowing your body time to learn that you are safe. Sometimes our bodies lag behind our brains and still respond to fear, even when there is no fear. Thank your body for keeping you safe. Here is a relaxation video I made that is designed to help you feel relaxed and safe. ua-cam.com/video/fesBUTP5VNk/v-deo.html
Yes, so many helpful medications have sleep problems as a side effect. I am hoping that part 2 helps you. I would give all of the techniques several weeks to help you normalize your sleep. If you are still having sleep problems, let your doctor know and discuss if a change is needed to correct that side effect. Thank you for your comment 😊
What?? I've been using cannabis almost exclusively to GET to sleep (which works great!) and am only watching this video to find of there is a way for me to fall asleep without ANY substance. I'm incredibly curious, because honestly, cannabis gives me such a great sleep and I do dream during the night, so I'd love to know more on that subject.
Question - part of my sleep routine is to read for 20 min or less in bed before falling asleep. I've had a lot of issues with my brain racing when I get into bed, so part of the aim here is to calm my brain down and associate the bed with calm and not anxiety. I do also get up if I can't sleep after 35 min or so or if I'm experiencing bad anxiety. Do you think this short period of reading in bed is okay?
I think your reading routine is fine. It is part of your routine and our brains like bedtime routines. As long as the reading material is not upsetting, I think it is fine.
Paige Pradko LPC NCC you are very welcome❤️ can you please tell me how to deal with heart palpitations before sleep normally they go away but with my period they get worse and smtmes they keep me awake not cuz m worried but because it's annoying i wish if can do a 1 on 1 online therapy or if you can at least give me an advice😊❤️
When I am working with someone with heart palpitations and anxiety, I help them do exposures on the body sensation of heart palpitations. They are instructed to do this several times a day. You can find this technique on my video called Interoceptive Exposure Therapy. Although, I cannot give you medical advice, healthy clients referred to me with health anxiety and heart palpitations are often suggested to take magnesium taurate and CoQ-10 by their cardiologists. Both are available over the counter without a prescription.
When those earthquakes happened in Ridgecrest, California back in July, it was hard to fall asleep with the possibility of aftershocks in the back of my mind.
My fiance has been on 10 different medications when she was in the psych ward for insomnia. 2 Psych medications she is on are Benzos.. Now she is in a Coma state sleep. I am so upset with this hospital. They made her into a drugged out zombie :( I need help please.
Oh my gosh, that sounds alarming. The last thing she needs is to be addicted to benzodiazepines. She will need to discuss her medications with her psychiatrist, but I sure hope they do not continue to keep her on benzos. I understand your concern.
Unfortunately, I cannot speak to this particular side effect of your medication. I do suggest speaking to your physician about this side effect and possibly look to switching to a different medication that does not have this side effect. I am sorry that you are dealing with this.
