I have Focal Clear OG Pro and had LCD-X 2013 and the best musicality and naturalness have Auteur. The best resolution, detail and separation from these have ... HE-6SEv1 which are chpeast in same time ;) Focal Clear have better macro dynamics and that's all.
Honestly the interest level around that headphone is pretty low, so I'm not sure I'll do a formal review - so here are my thoughts for you: Gorgeous build. Looks the part. You can see why the cost is more than the HD800S - it's in the build. Sounds fantastic. Needs a bit of EQ in the bass region but I feel the criticisms have been over dramatized. The dip between bass and mids is intentional to avoid mid-bass bloat. Good sound engineers do this with closed headphones otherwise the perceived mid bass bleed is bothersome. The Shure 1540 is a good example of where it hasn't been done properly. The DT770 and HD820 have the proper break. Isolation is fine. It's what should be expected - right about on par with my Sony 7506. Comfort is exceptional but they are bulky. They are not conducive to wearing for monitoring or anything like that - as one would expect. This is a closed headphone for audiophiles. Sound stage is wonderful for a closed back. The way they use the glass curvature is very clever and works extremely well. Imaging is superb. Really fun for music enjoyment and exceptional for gaming. I use two points of EQ with it and after that find them to be great headphones. Of course, I only recommend them if you need/want a closed headphone. If that is what you are after, they are a great choice.
@@gamingaudioguide9292 this is great - thanks so much. I currently am going through a quest to find a total closed back headphone if possible and this wasn’t initially on the list but maybe it should be. I do need some level of isolation though and have heard it may not be great. I have the z7 in house and a Stellia on the way. Another one I have considered is the fostex th-610. Thanks again and keep up the great reviews. Much appreciated.
@@akentosh rtings is not a resource I typically recommend, but they do have great isolation testing and scoring. you can use that to determine if something is isolating enough for you. If I recall the z7 was pretty darn isolating. I've heard good things about the 610 for imaging and sound quality but if it's like the other Fostex manufactured closed backs, I doubt its very isolating. Good luck and let me know what you end up with!
Liked before I started watching, because I appreciate you. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Zach recently modified the drivers and did the Atrium damping system to these and they are now called the Auteur Classic

Great review. I see you review a lot of ZMF headphones. Any reason you get so many of these on hand?
When can we expect the 820 review? Been curious about that.
